This week:

The box office meets the Little Fockers; we learn about the Madden Curse; Screen Gems asks About Last Night; Phillip Noyce cuts down on Salt; Christian Bale is a Nanjing Hero and Christina Hendricks, Olivia Munn and Seth Meyers don’t know how Sarah Jessica Parker Does It.

Box Office

The Focker family were the box office champions over the weekend. Little Fockers,the third film in the “Meet The…” franchise banked an estimated $34 million over the weekend (read our review). The Ben Stiller starrer has now scored $48 million since its launch last week. The grosses aren’t amazing for this pricey comedy, but it should be profitable in the end for Universal.

2011 Golden Globe Nominations Announced

Celebrities Josh Duhamel, Katie Holmes, and Blair Underwood dragged themselves from the comfort of their beds early this morning to announce the nominations for this year’s other big cinematic awards, the Golden Globes.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has unveiled its nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globes and, like any year’s crop of nominees, there are a few surprise choices, some unexpected snubs, and a number of highly anticipated selections.

Leading the movie pack with seven nominations is the period drama The King’s Speech, which began to garner serious awards buzz back when it toured the festival circuit this past fall. David Fincher’s The Social Network has already snagged a handful of critic’s choice awards and secured six Gold Globe nods, matching that of this month’s true-life boxing drama, The Fighter. ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ Review

Screen Rant’s Vic Holtreman reviews The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Will this be the final Narnia movie? I suppose the box office will tell – While the first film, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe grossed $745MM worldwide, Prince Caspian did little better than half of that. The consensus is that each film is not quite as good as the one that came before, and we’ll see if Dawn Treader’s box office goes along with both the financial and critical trend.

In this third film (and the order of the films does not match the chronology of the books), Lucy and Edmund Pevensie (Georgie Henley, Skandar Keyne) are stuck living with a dismissive uncle and bratty cousin ...

New Clips From ‘Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ & ‘The Tempest’

Fantasy is the name of the game this week as both The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Tempest aim to transport moviegoers to an other-worldly realm full of mystical creatures, dangerous adventure, and Russell Brand prancing about in a dress.

Both of these pics officially hit theaters this Friday and coincidentally involve a sea journey affected by forces of magic – though the latest Chronicles of Narnia offers much more appeal for those uninterested in Shakespearean dialogue or director Julie Taymor’s breed of visual extravaganza.

New ‘Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ Clips

The family-friendly fantasy flick (say that three times fast) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader arrives in theaters next week, now under the 20th Century Fox banner.

A new clip has emerged online from the film, which hopes to attract moviegoers who adore the colorful and imaginative world of Narnia – or those looking for a distraction until they can glimpse the more monochromatic world of “The Grid” in TRON: Legacy the week after Voyage of the Dawn Treader hits theaters.

Final ‘Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ Trailer

A new (and likely final) trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has hit the web. Like the international trailer that came before it, this new trailer focuses much more on the plot of the film, though in a decidedly less entertaining way.

As you’ll recall from the previous trailer, Voyage of the Dawn Treader takes place a short time after the events of the second film, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. In the movie, Lucy and Edmund (along with their annoying cousin Eustace) are transported back to Narnia, where they join with Caspian to track the Lost Lords of Narnia.

As I mentioned in a previous post highlighting three images from Dawn Treader, I’m a big C.S. Lewis fan and I am very much looking forward to this ...

This Christmas season, the Chronicles of Narnia series is back with its third film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

In anticipation of the rapidly approaching release, Fox has released three new images from the film.

With all the hullabaloo amongst movie fans about Tron Legacy hitting theaters mid-December of this year, it is easy to forget that another 3D, effects-heavy adventure for the whole family will be released just a week before that potential box office behemoth.

I am of course referring to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – the next entry in the allegorical fantasy epic, The Chronicles of Narnia, based on the books by author C.S. Lewis. A new trailer for the film was included on this week’s DVD release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and has made its way online (via Narnia Fans).

The first trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader hit the web last night at the Brazilian Chronicles of Narnia fansite, MundoNarnia.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the third film in the Chronicles of Narnia series and picks up three years after the events of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Gulliver’s Travels & Narnia 3 Coming in 3D

The list of high-profile 3D films continues to grow as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader as well as Gulliver’s Travels are now expected to get the 3D treatment. Initially considered speculation, Coming Soon has confirmed that the two FOX properties will, in fact, undergo a 3D conversion.

Dawn Treader and Travels are both scheduled for December releases, stuffing two more 3D properties into an already bulging 3D holiday release set. Moviegoers will nearly be offered a new 3D film each week throughout November and December.

November 5th – Megamind
November 12th – Tangled
November 19th – Harry Potter: The Deathly Hollows (Part 1)
December 10th - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
December 17th – Tron Legacy

‘Narnia’ Franchise Saved By Fox

A month after it was revealed that Walt Disney had pulled out of financing the next Narnia film we have news that 20th Century Fox has swooped in and taken hold of (part of) the financial reigns. Budget and script issues are still being worked out between Walden and Fox but they hope for an end of summer start date for shooting and are aiming for a summer 2010 release.

This is a kind of stroke of ironic luck on Fox’s part as head of Fox 2000 (the part of Fox that will be spearheading production and development matters) had been pursuing the Narnia franchise but was beaten to it by Walden. Over the past few years they have been looking for “a family-friendly, lit-based franchise for years,” with Eragon being a disappointing financial flop for them.
