It’s down to the wire for the 2011-2012 hopefuls, and ABC has made its decision on a whopping twelve series.

It’s not all good news though, as long-running drama Brothers & Sisters and sci-fi reboot V got the axe.

In an attempt to breath new life into the struggling series, the 'V' season 2 finale delivered a satisfying conclusion to the story, with enough surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Following what many consider to be a poor execution of its second season, V finally attempted to breathe new life into this problematic series with a surprisingly shocking second season finale. Unfortunately, this move towards episodic redemption falls within the familiar bounds of too little, too late.

For all intents and purposes, the V season 2 finale was captivating, suspenseful and, at times, enjoyable. If separated from the contrived storylines that made up the series’ sophomore year, the second season finale may have been the refreshing change that fans were hoping for earlier in the series.

While still riddled with many of the problems that have been cited as to V‘s downfall, the finale provided on some level, a new aggressive methodology that allowed fans to see that there was in fact, intentions ...

Click to continue reading ‘V’ Season 2 Finale Review & Discussion

The nominations are out for the 37th Annual Saturn Awards and they include such favorites as 'Inception,' 'Harry Potter,' 'True Grit' and 'Shutter Island.' Read the full list of nominees here.

As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

Last year the Saturn Awards were dominated by a little film called Avatar (you may have heard of it), but as you’ll see below fan favorite Inception dominates things this year with a whopping nine nominations, while other popular films ...

Click to continue reading Inception Leads 2011 Saturn Award Nominees

Ratings from Tuesday night were promising...for CBS. Veteran cop show 'NCIS' tied Fox's 'Glee' in the 18-49 demographic, while over on ABC, 'No Ordinary Family' and 'V' are seeing ratings slump.

[ UPDATE: Fox reached out to us and provided updated Nielsen ratings where it shows that NCIS & Glee actually tied each other in the 18-49 demo.]

CBS won Tuesday night’s ratings race as usual, but the long-running NCIS beat tied Glee in the all-important 18-49 demographic – something that hasn’t happened in quite some time. Additionally, science fiction shows No Ordinary Family and V are floundering on ABC.

The NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service and NCIS: Los Angeles lineup is a hard one to beat in overall numbers. The original show has averaged 20 million viewers a week for its eighth season, while its western cousin has averaged 16.5 in its second.

But the most impressive number from Tuesday isn’t the totals, it’s the 18-49 demographic.
ABC's alien-invasion series 'V' returns for its second season. With 'red sky' over the entire planet & humans revolting against the Visitors, how will Anna continue to hide her real intentions?

Tonight, the Visitors return and we finally see what became of Anna’s burst of human emotion in the season 2 premiere of V.

When we last left the world, Erica had taken it upon herself (with the help of Joshua and Lisa) to do one thing you probably shouldn’t even do to a dictator alien that wears human skin – kill her children. Of course, that lizard-headed figure of fallacy deserved it – considering her intentions to take over the planet Earth.

That being said, not everyone made it out of the first season finale of V intact. Following Anna’s capture of Valerie and her unborn baby, Ryan had to watch as both his alien child was taken from him and his fiancé was murdered. Unfortunately things became even more complicated when Joshua revealed himself as ...

Click to continue reading ‘V’ Season 2 Premiere Review & Discussion

We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

Even if the Scream Awards tend to honor the “right” movies however, this ...

Click to continue reading 2010 Scream Award Nominations

Saturday’s Comic-Con schedule has been released and while the buzz around the con that day may be about Green Lantern, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Thor, make no mistake that TV is stepping up to the plate and bringing the thunder as well.

Some of the panels included in Saturday’s schedule are heavy-hitters Chuck, MythBusters, Sanctuary, Vampire Diaries and Community. If that’s not enough, you can hit-up panels for Warehouse 13, Eureka, Fringe, V and ABC’s new fall drama, No Ordinary Family (I’ve seen it. It’s amazing!)

As with our previous Comic-Con schedules, we’ve jumped into the geek pool, filtered out all the nerdy binary code and selected our picks for Saturday’s television panels.

Will the first season finale of V have fans begging for the Visitor take over? Or, is it time for the series to return to its mothership for cancelation?

Tonight’s first season finale of V has the safety of the human race hanging in the balance. Although, as ABC recently made the decision to save V while canceling FlashForward, all eyes are now on this 80s sci-fi remake to affirm ABC’s decision to keep the series around – for one more season, at least.

This past season, the fifth column was forced to not only battle the invading Visitors, but also lengthy breaks between airings. As the resistance grew, Anna took the offense and gave birth to a new V army. With the help of newsman Chad Decker, the Visitors were able to convince the human race that, like E.T., they come in peace.

Luckily, FBI Agent Erica Evans wasn’t convinced and with the help of a priest, an outlaw and a ...

Click to continue reading V: Season 1 Finale Review & Discussion

ABC has announced a round of cancelations in preparation for their fall line-up, revealing a number of not-so surprising cuts, as well as crowning their pick for sci-fi spiritual successor to LOST – renewing alien invasion drama V and canceling FlashForward.

Other shows that won’t be receiving another season include Romantically Challenged, as well as Better Off Ted and the near-to-death Scrubs – receiving it’s final deathblow.

It’s a thorough house-cleaning. Obviously, it’s sad to see a few of the names on this list, though none of them come as a huge surprise. FlashForward was originally expected to carry the LOST audience (after the show takes its final bow on May 23rd) and, though the show started off with a bang, the overly-complicated plot and (mostly) unlikable characters resulted in a ratings free-fall. Despite a number ...

Click to continue reading ABC Cancels FlashForward, Renews ‘V’

It’s that time of the year when we must once again bid adieu, albeit temporarily (except for Lost, which is gone forever), to our favorite television shows. Over the next four weeks, over 60 shows will be on hiatus until this fall.

While that means your summer viewing schedule will be completely open, you better get your DVR’s ready, because the month of May is going test your television watching ability.

Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has helped put some order to all this television madness by putting together a comprehensive list of all the upcoming season/series finales.

Check out the list below to see when your favorite TV show finale airs. While you’re at it, you better check it twice because there are many overlapping finales. For instance, the two-hour series finale of Lost is on at the same ...

Click to continue reading Complete Guide To 2010 TV Season/Series Finales

Tonight will see the return of the ABC’s alien-centric drama, V. After four months of being off the air, viewers will finally witness the battle between the Visitors and the Visitor Resistance start taking shape as the V’s take the offense.

Will tonight’s return prove to the network and viewers both that V is a show worth watching?

The episode, entitled “Welcome to the War”, will find Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) having to watch her back both at work and at home as a Visitor comes to kill her. Anna (Morena Baccarin) will send her lap dog Michael (Christopher Shyer) to the FBI, where he’s all too happy to provide them with information as to who was behind the warehouse explosion that destroyed their R6 compound.

The nominations are out for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards and predictably movies like Avatar, Inglourious Basterds and The Hurt Locker lead the way. Read on to find out the full list

Today marks the day when the nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards are given out. In case you’re not familiar with them, they are given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (they also include TV shows and stage productions) so as a reader of Screen Rant I believe they’re right up your alley .

The awards will be given out on June 24th, so we have over four months to speculate and choose the nominees we’d give the award to. The categories range from the usual Best Film (separated into Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction etc) to Best DVD release and Best DVD Special Edition.

Keeping in line with all of the rest of the major awards, films like Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglourious Basterds ...

Click to continue reading Avatar Leads 2010 Saturn Awards Nominations

While we’re nowhere near the new fall season and most pilots have yet to be filmed, the networks are already looking at their current lineup to see where they can trim the fat. While most decisions have to be finalized, people talk, news is announced and assumptions can be made.

Some shows are no-brainers to renew (House), while others have already been canceled… and then there are the shows that sit on the fence; ones that are referred to in the industry as “being on the bubble.” Today we have an update on the status of some of those “bubble” shows.

With FlashForward and V not doing as well in the ratings as ABC had hyped / hoped for, some were worried about their futures.

Rest assured that ABC is committed to the new shows… just not fully committed.

As the shows line up to return from their breaks, each show is now less one episode than the original tally of episodes slated to be filmed. This means that when they return from their mid-season breaks, V will only have 8 new episodes and FlashForward will have 14 episodes.

It’s nice to see that for the moment, ABC is backing their shows. I can only hope they stick to this plan as March approaches.

Citizens of Earth, as the resistance against the Visitors grows, mankind just may have a fighting chance against the alien beings. Unfortunately, I don’t believe our favorite alphabet network (ABC) is so gung-ho about this particular extraterrestrial opposition, as resistance means that ratings for their new science-fiction series V have dropped significantly from last week’s debut.

The premiere episode of ABC’s re-imagining of the 1983 sci-fi mini-series raked in 14.30 million viewers, while this week’s episode saw its audience drop 27% to 10.7 million viewers. While all new shows expect to see a slight drop in ratings after their premiere episode, the drop that V saw was the largest since this season started in September.

Still, 10.7 million viewers is nothing to complain about. If V continues to received ratings in that range, fans of the series need not worry ...

Click to continue reading TV Ratings: ‘V’ Down 27% In Second Week

The original V series that aired back in the 80s was basically about the threat of Communism and Soviet Russia, so I anticipated that ABC’s remake would have some sort of political undertone as well. What suprised me in the pilot was the apparent target of the show’s political undertone: President Barack Obama.

The episode opens with the standard TV pilot mechanism of briefly showing us a a minute or so of each of the characters we’ll come to know over the course of the series. We have the handsome newscaster who is not taken seriously and wants to get ahead, the single mom FBI agent, a priest and a man with an obviously shadowy background trying to make a fresh start in life.

Soon enough huge spaceships appear over major cities in a scene reminiscent of Independence Day (the writers ...

Click to continue reading Is ABC’s ‘V’ About Obama?

Um, remember when ABC announced an ambitious plan for airplanes to be decorating the skies above major landmarks with giant red “V”s to market the upcoming mini-series V?

In case you haven’t figured it out, and way after the fact, it’s being reported that it just isn’t happening.

“Why not?”, I hear you asking.

It seems this promotional effort would pollute the air and since Disney, who owns ABC, declared that they would cut fuel emissions by 2012, this marketing plan didn’t gel with that environmental ideology.

This clever idea was dissed publicly by Lisa de Moraes of the Washington Post, who estimated that the campaign to scribble red letters in the air with airplanes would use 400 gallons of fuel that contains 800 grams of lead and produce approximately 3 tons of CO2 and other pollutants.

All in all, this campaign ...

Click to continue reading ABC’s V Sky Writing Marketing Squashed

ABC has made available the first 9 1/2 minutes of V and we have it for you here at Screen Rant.

In the video they try to tie into the emotions one might have felt when JFK was shot or on September 11th. They ask you where were you when these events happened – and where were you this morning. Meaning, the morning that the visitors arrive.

If you live in California, you might have an issue or two as the ground shakes with the arrival of the ship. The first of 29 ships that arrive on Earth.

Check it out after the break and let us know what you think!

ABC released this quip alongside the video:

An image of Anna, the leader of the V’s, is projected worldwide as she talks about people joining together.

In a couple of weeks ABC Television will air its remake of the 80s sci-fi hit V. Audiences are all crossing their fingers and hoping that this remake is much better than the past couple of attempts by television studios (Knight Rider, Bionic Woman). Right now, all hopes of success are resting on the shoulders of one vaguely known actress: Morena Baccarin. If you look at all of the marketing leading up to the November 3rd premiere one face sticks out looking down on the city on the bottom of a huge inter-galactic spaceship and it’s Anna (Baccarin).

For an actress that only has a handful of TV shows under her belt (Firefly, Stargate:SG-1) and two movies (Serenity, Stolen Lives), she sure does have a lot to live up to. She seems to be up ...

Click to continue reading New Clip and Interview with ‘V’ star Morena Baccarin

[Update: View a list of where and when you can catch the V skywriting campaign]

ABC is headed for the skies to market their newest sci-fi offering, V, a remake of the popular 80s television series.

Starting this Friday, ABC will be having skywriters create the letter V over 26 undisclosed landmarks.

This will happen a few times a day over the landmarks until the series premiere on November 3rd. I am presuming it won’t happen over each one a few times a day, but heck, I’ve been surprised before.

It seems like a lot of work going into this alien-based science fiction show. Considering the conjecture of whether V, is in trouble or not ever since it was announced they were taking breaks from production and then seemingly testing the waters by breaking it down into a 4-episode ...

Click to continue reading ABC To Market ‘V’ In The Sky [Updated]
