As always, this year’s MTV Movie Awards was two things: eye-rolling because of its results and entertaining in its own right.

We all know the awards themselves mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things (they might as well call it “The Twilight Awards”) but for the most part the show manages to be at least fun to watch (often that’s more than can be said for the Oscars).

In case you happened to miss the 2010 MTV Movie Awards don’t worry, as Screen Rant has you covered. We have here all the results from the awards, as well as four new clips for some pretty huge movies that are going to screens this year: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Last Airbender and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Time to roll out the red carpet, put on your best outfit and practice sitting in an auditorium for four hours just to find out that someone else won as tonight is the night that filmmakers and movie goers have been waiting for all year. It’s time for the Oscars!

Whether it’s soldiers disarming bombs in The Hurt Locker, an all out seafood war with Prawns in District 9 or even a couple of $500 million blue cats in Avatar; audiences around the world have been treated to a veritable treasure trove of motion picture excellence. While many believe they already know who’s going to win, don’t be too surprised if you see a couple unexpected winners here and there… especially with Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin taking over as hosts.

Recently I had a chance to review a selection from the DVD series The Dialogue. In this series, Hollywood’s top screenwriting talent sits down for 70-90 minute interviews about everything from how they approach their craft to what it’s like navigating the often tortuous streets of Tinsel Town.

If you’re a writer/movie buff who has dreamed of breaking into the screenwriting industry and is looking for a first-hand seminar from the experts – or even if you’re simply interested in how movies are conceived on the page (before ever going before the cameras), then The Dialogue is the series you’ve been waiting for.

In the past it was seen as a poor relation to the Oscars, but with a switch in date – that has set the BAFTA before its American counterpart- the awards are now seen as a strong indicator of who will win at the 82nd Academy Awards.

As Screen Rant’s England-based writer I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the BAFTA award ceremony in London yesterday and it was a pretty impressive evening…

Braving some pretty terrible weather (snow is something that the Brits haven’t managed to overcome) I travelled down to London to attend the event. After checking into my hotel room and grabbing a bite to eat, I suited up in my best tux and black tie ...

Click to continue reading Screen Rant Goes To The 2010 BAFTAS

Tomorrow morning, Tuesday February 2nd, the official nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards will be announced live. The 2010 Oscar presentation will take place Sunday, March 7, 2010, hosted by none other than the comedic pair of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

This year we have some big competition with the biggest box office film of all time in Avatar making a run for the awards and its creator James Cameron making a big returning splash into Hollywood after his last showing being the the previous biggest film of all time ...

Click to continue reading The Oscars: 82nd Academy Award Nominations [Updated]

This past weekend the race for 2010 Oscar got just a bit more debatable, with some surprise winners walking away from both the Producers Guild Awards (PGA) and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

James Cameron walked away happy from The 2010 Golden Globe Awards, with Avatar taking the top trophies for Best Director and Best Dramatic Picture, leading everybody to think that the Oscars would follow suit. With the Best Picture category now open to ten nominees, variety and uncertainty were suppossed to be this year’s theme.

However, in the months leading up to the biggest award in Hollywood, only a handful of films seem to be popping up as the top contenders.

The names we keep hearing again and again are as follows (listed by name with the director in parenthesis).

Avatar (James Cameron)

The Hurt Locker (Kathryn Bigelow)

I’m sure if you’re at all interested in which movies win what at each of the big award ceremonies, you caught the 67 Annual Golden Globe Awards last night on NBC. It was a fun show (as the Globes usually are compared to the Oscars), with some predictable/expected winners and some pretty major shocks.

Rickey Gervais was an absolute hoot as the host, jabbing in and out with often controversial but almost always funny gags which ranged from a Mel Gibson drinking joke (“I like a drink as much as the next man. Unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”) to one about Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler (“It’s Rachel from Friends and that bloke out of 300.”). Great stuff from a great host choice.

I won’t waste any time just now giving my thoughts on who I think should have won and ...

Click to continue reading 2010 Golden Globe Award Winners

With the award season in full swing, we at Screen Rant figured that maybe we should be covering these prestigious events because who knows, Mariah Carey could get up and say something crazy at one of these things OR Mariah Carey could get up and say something crazy at two of these things.

In case of such events, the general consensus is that we need someone around to provide hilarious, informative and cute/endearing commentary as well as someone that you, the reader, can yell at when you don’t agree with something we say.

So, join us back here at 8PM (EST) and we’ll kick things off as the always wonderful Ricky Gervais hosts the 2010 Golden Globe Awards.

Short Version: Up In The Air is a well-crafted and very timely piece of cinema. A sure contender in the coming Awards Season.

Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw reviews Up In The Air

Up In The Air is a film whose entire point can be discerned from its title. This new offering from Juno director Jason Reitman stars George Clooney as a man whose existence involves traveling the country airport to airport, essentially living “above” all that life presses upon the rest of us stuck below.

Clooney’s character, Ryan Bingham, is a corporate ax man. Struggling companies hire men like Ryan to fire employees for them – a way of sparing cowardly bosses the inconvenience of actually having to face their crushed employees. With the economy in shambles, life is grand ...

Click to continue reading Up In The Air Review

Up in the Air came off the festival circuit with raves, many of which cried Oscar. The trailer did nothing to put out the fire, in fact, it only stoked our interest here at Screen Rant. Now, a new clip from the film is online and it looks great!

The film is directed by Jason Reitman of Juno fame and stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a professional down-sizer. He’s the guy execs hire when they can’t bring themselves to drop the F-word in front of their employees – “you’re fired.” The job keeps Bingham on the road most of the year and he’s developed a life goal of racking up ten million frequent flier miles, for reasons he explains in the clip below.

Chances are you’re familiar with Jason Reitman’s last movie, Juno. The film garnered him an Academy Award Nomination for Best Director, though screenwriter and former erotic dancer Diablo Cody, along with “it girl” Ellen Page stole most of his thunder. For most people, Reitman’s name probably doesn’t ring any bells.

With Up in the Air, that might be about to change. And we have a trailer that will show you why.

Up in the Air, adapted from a bestselling novel by Walter Kirn, stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a middle-aged professional down-sizer. Bingham spends the majority of his days traveling, going from city to city playing message boy for bosses who don’t have the heart to tell their employees that they’re fired. His life’s goal is racking up ten million frequent flyer miles; he keeps his ...

Click to continue reading New Trailer and Release Date for ‘Up in the Air’

Coming up to the third day of the film festival and thus far I have seen The Informant!, which I liked very much despite some problems with decision making by the director, Broken Embraces, which features just a stunning performance from the astonishing Penelope Cruz, Antichrist, a repellant yet unforgettable film, Hugh Hefner, a superb documentary that should earn an Oscar nomination, Bright Star, a disappointing film from Jane Campion, Jennifer’s Body, a rather average horror film from the pen of Juno (2007) writer Diablo Cody and the superb Up in the Air, from the great Jason Reitman.

Matt Damon and George Clooney are both so good, so strong in their respective films that choosing one over the other for the Oscar seems impossible, but if I had a vote it would go to Clooney for ...

Click to continue reading TIFF 2009 Two Days In: What’s Good & Bad So Far

I would be a fool if I did not at least mention I had seen Antichrist here at the 34th Toronto International Film Festival, and though beautifully shot, the film is among the most repellent works I have ever seen. That said, I have been unable to think about much else since seeing it. ‘Nuff said.

Up in the Air might be the best film of the year, a superbly acted, directed and written film that brings out the very best in George Clooney, who stars as Ryan, a man traveling America ...

Click to continue reading Toronto International Film Festival Coverage

The first teaser trailer has appeared online exclusively over at Slash Film for Jason Reitman’s (Juno) upcoming comedy/drama, Up in the Air, starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Jason Bateman. The film played at the Telluride Film Festival this past weekend to great reviews, with some even talking Oscars for the film before it’s even been released.

In Up in the Air, George Clooney plays a man whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he’s about to reach ten million frequent-flyer miles and met the frequent-flyer woman of his dreams.

Today we have a bunch of new posters for you that have appeared online over the lat few days or so. They include posters for Saw VI and a new George Clooney film, Up in the Air, a couple of special ones for Inglourious Basterds, and a couple foreign language ones for [REC] 2 and Shutter Island. I’m not going to waste much time in saying this franchise lost what made it interesting long ago.
