Two comedies, two thrillers, a sword-and-sandals epic and a Michael Bay Blu-ray hit shelves this week. Clearly there is a little for everybody, unless you are a couple looking for a romantic comedy to watch.

A few of the titles this work are definitely worth your money, though there are no movies that will bring fans to stores in droves. Instead, some of the titles may quietly find their audiences, but hopefully they will do more in the week before Lord of the Rings returns to Blu-ray.

Some say that love is a battlefield, but they just don’t follow the weekly box office. This weekend a major battle took place at the box office, and like any combat situation, there were some casualties. Three high profile new movies opened, but only one could be the winner. Battle: Los Angeles, Red Riding Hood and Mars Needs Moms all fought it out for the box office crown, but it was Battle: ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: March 13th, 2011

Screen Rant’s Ben Kendrick reviews Unknown

Liam Neeson returns to the international action-thriller genre in Unknown, previously Unknown White Male, as a man with a fractured memory in Berlin who must uncover the details of his life in order to reclaim his identity.

Is the film, based on the Didier van Cauwelaert novel Out of My Head, worth getting to know – or will you wish you could forget it ever happened?

Despite a headlining star like Liam Neeson, Unknown was brought into being by a mostly unknown group of filmmakers (I know, I know… sorry). The movie was scripted by a set of writers with limited film credits – Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell, as well as helmed by director Jaume Collet-Serra, who has yet to enjoy a critical box ...

Click to continue reading ‘Unknown’ Review

A new trailer and three TV spots have hit the web for 'Unknown', a new mystery thriller starring Liam Neeson as a man trying to find the truth about his identity.

In 2008, veteran actor Liam Neeson proved himself a competent modern day action star with the surprise hit Taken, some say even giving Jason Bourne a run for his money… and that’s saying something!. Now Neeson is back in action with Unknown, a new mystery thriller co-starring January Jones (X-Men: First Class, Mad Men) and Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds).

Way back in October of last year we got a look at the official trailer for Unknown. Today we have a new trailer and three TV spots to try and get us excited about the movie. But before we get to them, let’s remind ourselves of the plot:

A trailer has been released for 'Unknown', a mystery-thriller that stars Liam Neeson ('Taken') as a man who wakes up from a coma and discovers that his identity has been stolen.

Liam Neeson has his action game face on again playing an ordinary man whose identity has been (dare we say it) Taken in the upcoming Noirish flick, Unknown, from director Jaume Collet-Serra.

An official trailer has been released for the paranoia thriller, which was formerly known as Unknown White Male but is now known as, well, the new action pic that stars Neeson, is set in Europe, but isn’t Taken 2.

Sixteen films have new release dates over the next three years. Find out when to catch them in theaters.

Several studios have announced a number of official release dates for in-development films set to debut over the next couple years. Surprisingly, only four of the 16 are sequels. In a time when it seems every other “new” movie is a sequel or reboot, that number is quite pleasing.

There are a few comedies, a honey-loving bear, a deadly virus, and plenty more hitting theaters between now and 2013. The next three years are full of some epic comic book adaptations and summer blockbusters. But not every film is geared for the geeks and fanboys.

For a quick rundown of the new release dates, here they are in list form. Below that, you’ll find more descriptive breakdowns of each.

Disney leap Frogs the competition to get to number one; Andy Daly moves to Jelly Stone Park; a Twilight star sees Hereafter; Polanski might not get a release but his Ghost Writer will; Diaz is a Bad Teacher; Frank Langella is an Unknown White Male and Frankenstein Lives in Death Race 2.

Box Office

Clint Eastwood’s Invictus scored just under $10 million over the weekend from 2,125 locations. Opening much like Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby, the film has had solid reviews from critics. With Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon head-lining, the film might have a chance of hitting the $100 million club if it gets some awards momentum.

Disney’s The Princess and the Frog took the top spot this weekend with an estimated $25 million. The film which had been on ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: December 13, 2009
