Twilight Saga: Eclipse to Start Shooting Yesterday

You might remember a post written by Screen Rant guru Vic Holtreman back in February, which begged the question “Just How Fast CAN They Make a Twilight Movie?” in reference to the news that The Twilight Saga: New Moon was going to be released just one year after Twilight, with the third film in the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, aiming for a release date just SEVEN MONTHS after New Moon!

Well, today we have an official answer to Vic’s question: almost faster than you could write that post, Holtreman.

Empire got a chance to have a chat with Sheen about his role in New Moon - playing the head of an ancient vampire coven known as the Volturi, who are basically vampire royalty.

Twilight Sweeps The 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Twilight Sweeps The 2009 MTV Movie Awards

Maybe I’m just out of touch with today’s youth culture, but as I look over this “winners list” from the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, I can’t help but feel like a crotchety old man who complains about the kids today with their loud music and funny ways of talking. The Twilight Saga wiped the floor with the competition, proving that vampire romance is the current king of pop culture, for better or worse.

In the interest of fairness, Screen Rant presents the complete list of winners from the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Be wary, though: your head may explode as you read which actors and films lost to Twilight.

Vampire Showdown: 30 Days of Night vs. The Twilight Saga

Vampire Showdown: 30 Days of Night vs. The Twilight Saga

Talk about an odd couple: could you imagine 30 Days of Night writer Steve Niles ever sitting down to make nice with Stephenie Meyer, author of The Twilight Saga???

Well, apparently that scenario isn’t just my own skewed version of What The-?!; in a recent interview with MTV News, Niles talked about how his insatiably hungry vampires from the 30 Days of Night graphic novel stacked up against Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and the rest of The Cullen Family vamps from The Twilight Saga. Shockingly enough (at least to me), Niles had nothing but good things to say about Twilight:

Today we have a slew of new set images for New Moon. They are not official images released by the studio as the previous two were, but nonetheless I’m sure they’re interesting for fans of the series. We’ve chosen 12 of the staggering 60-plus thre are in total - check them out below:

SR Picks [Video]: James from Twilight vs. Rabid Fans

I know some people complain that we run too much Twilight coverage here at Screen Rant, but I think you might make an exception in this case. I don’t know how fans of the movie will react to this, but I was laughing my head off while watching it - and I give props to Cam Gigandet (who played the evil non-veggie vampire James in the film) for having a sense of humor about the whole thing.

So check out our SR Pick video below, and enjoy!

Robert Pattinson Confirms Twilight’s ‘Breaking Dawn’

As if Twilight fans needed another reason to get excited about the hit vampire movie franchise, Robert Pattinson, who is the series heartthrob both off and on-screen, is here to fuel the excitement. At Cannes on Tuesday, Pattinson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that a fourth movie will happen, based on the fourth book in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

First Official ‘New Moon’ Poster

First Official ‘New Moon’ Poster

The first official teaser poster for highly anticipated Twilight sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon is now online. There were a bunch of fan-made New Moon posters that Screen Rant posted earlier this month, but you can trust us that this poster is the real deal.

The poster  prominently features the three main stars of New Moon, with heartthrob Robert Pattinson taking precedent over the other two. It doesn’t give us much about the movie other than the central Bella/Edward/Jacob love triangle (playing to those rabid female fans out there…), but at least it’s a start.

David Slade Apologizes For Twilight Remarks

Remember way back when Screen Rant reported on David Slade, the director for The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse, making fun of the first Twilight and telling his followers on Twitter that he’d rather be shot than watch it?

Oh crap, that was just yesterday!

Well, we reported about his twitter account mysteriously vanishing and now without surprise, we have some more damage control in the form of Mr. Slade explaining the joke and re-assuring the fans that he’s dedicated to making a good movie for the fans.

Eclipse Director Hates Twilight?

Warning: The fans of Twilight may not be pleased with this news.

The recently announced director of The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse, David Slade, has had his twitter account completely removed. Why? And what does that have to do with anything?

Well, because one of his tweets from back when Twilight hit theaters last fall made fun of the movie and revealed that Slade wanted to avoid it like the Plague. Uh oh!

Edward Cullen Could Have Been Oh So Different

Edward Cullen Could Have Been Oh So Different

It’s absolutely undeniable the heartthrob that Robert Pattinson has become ever since landing the role of vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight. Fans of the original books debated fiercely before he was cast as to who would be “the perfect Edward Cullen,” and when the role eventually went to Pattinson, those young teen girls instantly became enamored with him.

However - was that because he was Robert Pattinson or was it simply because he played the beloved Edward Cullen character? One could certainly argue that whoever was cast in the role was automatically going to become a heartthrob, an argument I actually agree with.

Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley was the first cast member to be announced (playing the new Freddy Krueger), then a couple of the teens were cast in the form of Thomas Dekker and Rooney Mara (the new Nancy). And now we have another one of the teen cast spots filled, this time by Twilight star Kellan Lutz.

Drew Barrymore Is NOT Directing ‘Twilight: Eclipse’

Drew Barrymore Is NOT Directing ‘Twilight: Eclipse’

There has been much speculation over the past few months as to who will direct the second and third installments in the Twilight movie franchise. For the second film, New Moon (which just started shooting the other day), The Golden Compass helmer Chris Weitz was hired to direct, but it hasn’t been quite as clear cut with the third film.

Actress-turned-director/producer Drew Barrymore was reportedly amongst a small group of names being considered to helm Eclipse. There were no confirmations of any of them, including the much speculated Juan Antonio Bayona, but there were many Twilight fans both for and against Barrymore taking the directing reigns for the third movie.

Well, those who were on the “against” side of the fence can sleep a little easier, as Barrymore confirmed herself that she will not be directing Eclipse.

Michael Sheen Fires An Aro Into New Moon

Twilight fans rejoice! According to The Daily Mail Michael Sheen has been cast as Aro, the leader of the Volturi, an Italian vampire family in New Moon - the sequel to the smash hit movie. According to paper, the director of the film Chris Weitz “aggressively pursued” Sheen for the role saying:

“Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.”

The Twilight Saga’s New Moon Has Its Heidi

It is a good day for us Canadians! For the second time today, a Canadian supermodel has been picked up for a role in a major feature film. Earlier today, Screen Rant reported that Serinda Swan has been cast in Tron 2.0 and now we have word that Canadian beauty Noot Seear has been cast in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

Seear will play the character Heidi who’s described in the novel as a vampire who possesses the extra ability to create illusions of a person’s desires. In the story, Heidi is a member of the Volturi guard and her role is to act as the “fisher” and the “bait”, luring human victims in for the coven’s consumption.

Twilight Saga’s ‘New Moon’ Reveals The Wolf Pack

Summit Entertainment has made a casting announcement for New Moon regarding the wolf pack, who play an essential part of the story for in the sequel to last year’s Twilight.

The wolf pack members share history with the Cullen family and in this movie they act as protectors for humans against vampires. Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob Black in Twilight is of course, back for the sequel and is also a member of the wolf pack.

I’ve taken the casting announcement part of the press release for you to see:

‘Twilight’ Available On-Demand The Same Day As DVD

If you’re at all a Twilight fan (either of the original books or the movie - most likely it’s both) then you’ll probably be aware that it comes out on DVD this Saturday (in the U.S. that is - the UK still has a few weeks to wait). For many teenage girls, this was the movie event of the year, and I’m sure the DVDs will be flying off the shelves in a couple of days.

But what if you don’t want to shell out money for an overpriced DVD? What if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your own home but still want to watch your beloved Twilight? Well, continuing a growing trend, Twilight will be available on-demand the same day it is released on DVD.

‘Twilight’ Director To Helm ‘Maximum Ride?’

‘Twilight’ Director To Helm ‘Maximum Ride?’

After making her mark on the Twilight franchise with the first film in the franchise, director Catherine Hardwicke is now in talks to develop and helm an adaptation of the award winning young-adult fantasy novel series Maximum Ride.

Most likely by the word “develop” they mean she will help to try and transition the fantasy series from the page to the screen, but she will not be writing the screenplay. Penning a first screenplay for the film (although most likely it won’t be the only draft) is Fantasic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer writer Don Payne (oohh, that’s not a good sign).

‘The Orphanage’ Director To Helm Twilight’s ‘Eclipse?’

‘The Orphanage’ Director To Helm Twilight’s ‘Eclipse?’

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that actress-turned-director Drew Barrymore was amongst a small group of people being looked at to helm The Twilight Saga’s Eclipse (or The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, or just Eclipse, or whatever the hell they’re calling it). A diverse list that reportedly ranges from Barrymore, to New Moon director Chris Weitz’s brother Paul, to Walk the Line director James Mangold.

Well the latest name being thrown around is horror filmmaker and Guillermo Del Toro protege Juan Antonio Bayona, who made the uber-creepy The Orphanage last year. Although a few of the other names have been dismissed by the powers that be, Bayona has surfaced more than once and out of those suggested seems like the most credible candidate to end up getting the gig.

‘New Moon’ Art And Title Change

‘New Moon’ Art And Title Change

Last night, as if it was some global event at 10PM ET, the MTV Movie Blog unveiled the art and official title for the second chapter in the Twilight series. From this point forward, it shall be addressed as “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” - although the new art leaves out the “’s.”

The name and art for the second installment includes some changes but retains much of the concept from the first - there’s nothing to get too excited about here. Fans will likely enjoy the same font though it has changed to an orange tint. There is also a subtle crescent moon and the release date of Nov. 20, 2009.

The ‘Twilight’ Mystique - And Why It’s Undeserved

Now that the vampire phenomenon has completely infiltrated my list of media streams, I must stand and be accounted for. I am NOT a “Twilighter,” and I cannot fathom how anyone could be.

Within the screaming masses of America’s teen hearts, a personal attachtment to these characters has vice-gripped our youth. Thousands of our sisters, daughters and friends are choosing sides in an unknown divide. Twilight is being hailed as the next great young adult series with a twist of fantasy.

But there’s something particularly odd about it altogether, and it isn’t just the undead.
