From early reports by people who were lucky enough to see it at Sundance, the horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil appears to fully live up to expectations. It’s no surprise really – if you haven’t watched the red band trailer or hilarious clips from the movie, I suggest you click HERE and HERE.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil was written and directed by Eli Craig, whose only other directing credit is The Tao of Pong. The film stars Alan Tudyk (Serenity) as Tucker and Tyler Labine (Flyboys) as Dale – two good old backwoods boys trying to enjoy Tucker’s newly-acquired summer cabin. Every few years a really good, basically unknown, film hits the wires and gets my attention. I’m not talking mainstream stuff like Batman Begins or Pirates of the Caribbean. I’m referring to the lesser-known, lower-budget and lower-marketed films that deserve to reach a wider audience for being original, funny or cool. Last year that movie for me was a tossup between The Hurt Locker and Ink. This year, it looks like my sleeper favorite is going to be Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.

Last month, Screen Rant writer Ross Miller did a series on horror films that were combined with other genres. One of those combinations was horror plus comedy and the movie he choose was Shaun of the Dead. Other great examples are the always popular Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness with Bruce “The Chin” Campbell.
