James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequels Are His Only Focus

People looking forward to James Cameron making films outside of the world of Avatar are going to be very disappointed. The famed Titanic director has announced that he has disbanded the development arm of his production company and wants to focus solely on Avatar-related movies (specifically Avatar 2 & 3). So fans who were hoping to see Cameron finally make Battle Angel, True Lies 2 or even more Aliens and/or Terminator films are going to feel very, very deflated with the news that he intends to stay on Pandora.

Cameron has never been one to play the Hollywood game, and this latest move appears to be a way of giving him the freedom to experiment with technology without having to make any artistic compromises.

Tom Arnold Wants to Reteam with Schwarzenegger for ‘True Lies 2′

There’s been no shortage of ’80s/’90s action remakes (The A-Team), sequels (Rambo) and spoofs (MacGruber) – not to mention mash-ups (The Expendables) – and the testosterone-fueled trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.

Especially if actor, and former husband of Rosanne Barr, has a say in the matter. Not only would the actor like to step back into his True Lies role, as counter-terrorism operative Albert Gibson, he’s banking on the notion that Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played his partner Harry Tasker, is interested in re-entering active acting duty for True Lies 2.

Arnold has managed to keep up a brisk string of jobs since his mid-90s heyday – with a number of supporting roles, TV guest appearances, and four years worth of hosting duties ...

RUMOR PATROL: John Cena in Talks for ‘True Lies’ TV Show

Back in September, we reported that James Cameron was in the process of developing a True Lies TV series with Rene Echevarria (Castle) as the Executive Producer and showrunner. Since then, we haven’t heard much about the project (or the now-unlikely possibility of a True Lies 2).

Recent reports, however, suggest that the project is still very much in development and that Cameron may have a lead actor in mind for the role.

According to the Australian movie website What’s Playing, WWE superstar and semi-successful film actor John Cena is being considered for a part in the True Lies TV series. It’s unclear if the part is Schwarzenegger’s role from the popular 1994 film, or a new character designed for the TV series.

James Cameron Developing ‘True Lies’ TV Show

James Cameron’s True Lies was a critical and box office hit back in 1994 and although it wasn’t the first action/comedy hybrid, it became the benchmark for every subsequent entry into the sub-genre that attempted to cash in on its formula and success. Although plans for a sequel have never come to fruition, it looks as if the property will continue on in another medium instead.

Deadline reports that Cameron is working on a True Lies television show and will soon begin shopping the idea around to various networks. Rene Echevarria (The 4400, Castle) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. Echevarria previously collaborated with Cameron on the acclaimed director’s first foray into television, the sci-fi series Dark Angel.

James Cameron’s Next Sci-Fi Movie [Updated]

For the first time in a long 12 years, James Cameron will be having a feature film grace the screens next week. That movie of course is the eagerly anticipated Avatar. With this movie and the tech behind it taking so long in development and finally coming to fruition in a matter of days, the question on everyone’s mind is “what’s next?”

If Tom Arnold’s words hold any truth from what he said back in August, it could be a film starring Tom and Arnold Schwarzenegger, re-teaming for the first time since 1994′s True Lies. At the time, Tom Arnold said they’d be shooting “in 14 months,” meaning next November, and that it won’t be called True Lies 2 but that “it might as well be.” That got many excited until Cameron himself ...

During the Q&A segment of James Cameron’s Avatar panel at San Diego Comic-Con the week before last, a member of the Hall H audience asked a question that I’ve wanted to ask for many years – When will we get True Lies 2?

Cameron’s response was that Arnold is busy being the Governator but who knows after that.
