Waiting on the aftermath of a True Blood season finale can sometimes feel more torturous than waiting on the results of a final paper. That said, if you consider yourself a true die hard fan of the show, then waiting on the results can at times feel like waiting on the results of a pregnancy test – only the pacing, over contemplating, and nail biting can last anywhere from 8-9 months until you finally know the ultimate results, and by that time the baby will have already arrived.

As a result, any tidbit of True Blood content is welcome – to help the wait pass by.

‘True Blood’ Season 5 Trailer Brings Explosions (And Vampires)

It’s time to get in that Bon Temps state of mind, as HBO has released the first official trailer for True Blood season 5.

Picking up from the True Blood season 4 finale, the 30-second trailer begins with Sookie digging a grave outside her house. Continuing with an unknown voice as voiceover, we’re met with a series of quick shots (largely involving vampires) as well as some explosions. Of course.

Creator Alan Ball Leaving ‘True Blood’ After Season 5

While True Blood owes its existence to author Charlaine Harris and her Southern Vampire Mysteries series of books, there’s no denying that it owes its popularity to creator and showrunner Alan Ball. So what happens when said creator/showrunner leaves the show?

Well, we’re about find out. After season five ends — which, for those not keeping track, is the upcoming season — Ball will be leaving True Blood in the capacity of showrunner, though he will remain as an executive producer/advisor.

‘True Blood’ Season 4 Finale Review

Following last week’s episode of True Blood - which could have been seen as a competent resolution – the “official” True Blood season 4 finale feels like nothing more than an unnecessary addition to a series that’s on verge of proverbially imploding because of its tendency to follow operatic logic while continuously positioning itself as a fantastical drama.

Despite adequately concluding the myriad of concurrent storylines and subplots that have run rampant throughout the series’ evolution, the True Blood season 4 finale was also a cavalcade of ridiculousness wrapped in a veil of poorly executed scenes and a litany of “twists” that serve no other purpose than to reduce the number of actors the series has to employ.

HBO’s smash hit guilty pleasure True Blood is taking the San Diego Comic-Con in force, and Screen Rant is here to cover it all. The show is here for its fourth year straight, and thousands of people have crammed themselves into Ballroom 20 to see the stars and producers.

True Blood just started Season 4 in June, and the sex and violence is as potent as ever. Sookie (Anna Paquin) returns to the vampire, were creature and witch-infested world of Louisiana after brief trip to fairyland. (That not a metaphor or anything. She actually went to fairyland.)

Even though the continuing adventures of Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood season 4 are just beginning, plans are already underway for the next season of HBO’s hit series – plans that include the long-awaited return of Russell Edgington.

Speaking with Film School Rejects, Denis O’Hare confirmed that he will be returning as the one-time vampire king of Mississippi when the fifth season of True Blood begins. As a fan-favorite character – and one of the few positives to come out of True Blood season 3 – viewers have been wondering if/when Russell Edgington would break free from the underground cement prison that was supposed to house him for the next 100 years.

Following last season’s lack-luster finale of conflicting character story-arcs and poor story progression, the True Blood season 4 premiere attempts to beautifully refocus HBO’s hit vampire drama with an entertaining storyline and masterful handling of the series’ ever growing cast.

As Sookie (Anna Paquin) gracefully traveled into the mysterious fairy world in the season 3 finale, fans of the series were left wondering what the outcome would bring to the series’ proverbial femme fatale. With the absence of any overt cliffhanger, the opening scenes of the True Blood season 4 premiere highlights what could have been a wonderful way to end a not-so-wonderful season 3 – and perhaps that’s what should have happened.

The last two seasons of True Blood haven’t exactly blown my mind – season two’s Maryann-centric storyline was depressingly bad – but the show has been consistently entertaining and there were even moments of true greatness (Russell Edgington’s hilarious televised speech comes to mind).
