Synopsis

Humans are at war with the Transformers, and Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving the future lies buried in the secrets of the past and the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Now, it’s up to the unlikely alliance of Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), Bumblebee, an English lord (Anthony Hopkins) and an Oxford professor (Laura Haddock) to save the world.

The Transformers films are based on the toy line originally created by Hasbro and Takara Tomy in 1984. It revolved around the conflict between the heroic Autobots and villainous Decepticons and their ongoing struggle. When it was first launched, Transformers was a comic book series and animated TV show, and the franchise continued to expand from there. Michael Bay helmed the first live-action movie, which was released in 2007. He has since directed all of the installments released to date: Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon, Age of Extinction, and The Last Knight.

In keeping with the new Hollywood business model, Paramount is looking to create a shared cinematic universe for Transformers by alternating between entries in the main storyline and various spinoffs.
