Tonight, the who’s who of Hollywood are gathered at the illustrious Kodak Theatre for the 84th Academy Awards.

With Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Michel Hazanavicius’ The Artist leading the way with the most Oscar nominations for 2012, this year’s Oscars could very well become a battle of theatrical homages. That being said, Hugo and The Artist are going to have to overcome the competition that Tate Taylor’s The Help has been bringing to this year’s award shows.

Of course, no matter who takes home the coveted Oscar this year, all eyes are on Billy Crystal as he makes his long-awaited return as host of Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show.

Screen Rant will be here live to discuss the 84th Academy Awards as they happen and we’re inviting you to chat with us at 8:00pm EST.

Just in time for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony, nominees have been announced for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards. “Winners” of the awards (meant to (dis-) honor the “Worst Achievements in Film” during 2011) will be accordingly announced this year on (when else?) April Fools’ Day.

Leading the pack of 2012 Razzie contenders are some usual suspects, in the form of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Adam Sandler in a record-breaking nomination run, due to his involvement with such critically-ravaged titles as Just Go with It, Jack and Jill, and Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Sandler has managed to smash Eddie Murphy’s record for most Razzie nods in a single year (the latter received 5 back in 2007) by stacking up a whopping 11 nominations in 2012. That’s due ...

Click to continue reading 2012 Razzie Nominations: Adam Sandler & ‘Transformers 3′ Lead the Pack

We discuss visual effects a lot here on Screen Rant – what looks good, what looks bad, etc. – and so, we thought it only fitting to let our readers know about those films that were recognized at the 2012 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards. The annual event recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry in 23 categories of film, animation, television, commercials, special venues and video games.

With 2011 movies like Transformers 3, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Captain America, Hugo, and animated fare like Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss In Boots and Rango all sporting some impressive visual splendor, the big winners of the night were somewhat of a surprise – while others weren’t that surprising at all.

[Update: Michael Bay himself is speaking out about his involvement with TF4. See quote below.]

Yesterday we rehashed some old thoughts from the summer where we discussed our belief that Michael Bay could return to the Transformers franchise to direct a fourth installment. Since before Transformers: Dark of the Moon released this summer, Michael Bay and series star Shia LaBeouf adamantly claimed that this trilogy-concluding film would be the last for the both of them for the franchise.

Of course, money talks, and Michael Bay is far from denying he’ll return now. The latest reports go as far as saying Bay’s almost signed a deal with Paramount Pictures for him to return to direct Transformers 4.

After Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the series’ second installment, Michael Bay was determined to take a ...

Click to continue reading Michael Bay in Final Negotiations For ‘Transformers 4′ [Updated]

After directing the universally-panned Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a sequel that suffered for being rushed and being in production just after the writer’s strike, Michael Bay was dead set on tackling a personal project of his instead of his usual big budget summer blockbuster fare.

That indie film of his would be called Pain & Gain and it’s something Bay has had his eye on for a decade. After meeting with Steven Spielberg, an executive producer on the Transformers films, Bay was persuaded to again push that film back and work on Transformers 3 next, a movie that lit up the box office this summer and introduced 3D to the series. After claiming that would be the end of his spot in the director’s chair for the series, could Bay be back again for Transformers 4? ...

Click to continue reading Michael Bay Will (Probably) Direct Transformers 4

The 'Transformers' movie trilogy is complete, and we've put together a massive character guide listing every Autobot and Decepticon from all three films - 78 robots in disguise!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon arrives on Blu-ray and DVD, thus completing fans’ home video collection of Michael Bay’s Transformers trilogy.

Now that the entire series is available for home video movie-marathon satisfaction, we thought we’d follow-up our Transformers: Dark of the Moon character guide with a look back at the entire trilogy and put together a massive compilation to all the Autobots and Decepticons that have been featured in Bay’s Transformers universe (for better or worse).

We’ll start with the original Transformers (2007), move to the sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and end with third chapter Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

We’re leaving no gear unaccounted for, either – from the indistinguishable robot clones to all the silly bots that pop up in each film, to the different versions of popular characters we saw in ...

Click to continue reading ‘Transformers’ Complete Movie Character Guide

A couple of big titles hit DVD and Blu-ray this week, including 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' and 'Ben-Hur.' Find out what they have to offer alongside the films themselves in this week's breakdown.

There are not a lot of titles to pick from this week, but this year’s mega-blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon goes up against history’s blockbuster Ben Hur on DVD and Blu-ray.

Of course, with every new remake we seem to get a Blu-ray release of the original film. As the new Footloose approaches theaters in a few weeks, Paramount is bringing their dance classic to the small screen first.

In previous monster-related features on Screen Rant, we’ve noticed a huge passion for Gamera among our readers. Those same readers will be happy today as the trilogy hits Blu-ray in one set. All three Blu-rays are already available in some capacity, but now they can all be purchased together.

The following titles can be found on DVD and Blu-ray.

Now that the 2011 Summer movie season is behind us, here's our look back at what we think were the best and most disappointing movies this year - along with a couple of very unexpected surprises.

Forget about checking your calendar – when you read that Shark Night 3D is one of the big releases of the weekend, you know the Summer Movie Season is officially coming to an end.

Overall, 2011 was a decent year as far as summer releases go. There were a handful of surprises (and more than a couple of disappointments) but most movies were good enough to ensure that people walked away entertained and with their expectations met – as opposed to, say, protesting in the streets and demanding a ticket refund.

Quibbles about whether Fast Five or Thor truly marked the start of Summer 2011 aside, the season started off with a bang at the box office – and eventually fizzled out in the end. So, here are the big questions: What ...

Click to continue reading Summer 2011 Movies: The Best, The Worst, & Some Surprises

This week: Transformers 3 holds steady at the top of the box office, while Horrible Bosses grosses an impressive $28 million to take the runner-up spot; Ghost Rider meets The Masters of the Web at Comic Con; Kang, Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Slater and McCallany join Stallone for Headshot; will Mel Gibson be in Mad Max 4 after all? Johnny Depp gets closer to Pirates of the Caribbean 5 as he makes $350 million from the Disney franchise!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon topped the box office on its second week of release. The Michael Bay directed action extravaganza grossed an estimated $47 million over the weekend to raise its total cume to $261 million, making it the highest grossing film of the year, so far. The Shia LaBeouf starring/CGI-fest dipped in the region of 54% from last weekend – a decent hold from its debut.
[UPDATE: OK, maybe it IS a reboot after all.]

Hoping to see the next Transformers film offer a new take on the live-action version of everybody’s favorite Hasbro toys? That’s not going to happen. Even if director Michael Bay and star Shia LaBeouf are done with the series, Transformers 4 is coming and it’s going to continue down its current path of success.

Producer Don Murphy (Splice, Shoot ‘Em Up), who has served as producer on all three Transformers films to date, assures fans that the franchise isn’t getting a reboot and that it’s more likely to start up a second trilogy, following the same style we’re now accustomed to.

On the message boards of his personal site, Murphy stated the following about the future of the series post-Transformers: Dark of ...

Click to continue reading Transformers 4 Not A Reboot; Kicks Off Second Trilogy

Transformers: Dark of the Moon released last week to astonishing box office results, but again and as per franchise tradition, also to a lot of negative critical reception. We at Screen Rant however, known for being vocal about our issues of the first Transformers and distaste of its sequel Revenge of the Fallen, had a blast with Transformers 3 and are eager for more.

Who else is eager for more? Not Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay, who’ve openly stated that the trilogy-closing Dark of the Moon would be the last film in the series for both of them. But money talks, and there’s a lot of money saying a lot of things right about now. So, what will it take for Michael Bay to return for Transformers ...

Click to continue reading Will Michael Bay Return For Transformers 4?

Check out our complete 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' character guide, including returning fan-favorite Autobots and Decepticons, as well as new bots making their debut.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon has invaded the box office – providing one of the coolest eye-candy experiences moviegoers will see all summer. Despite an overlong runtime and some plot-holes, both fans and critics (read our Transformers 3 review) have praised the movie for its exciting and over-the-top final act – which looks especially cool as an IMAX 3D experience.

However, while the visuals excel, the stars of the film – the cybernetic organisms known as “Transformers” – are, with a few exceptions, somewhat under-served and underdeveloped once again. As a result, many fans were left scratching their heads, trying to figure out which bot was which, while speculating on backstories for the more obscure characters.

To combat the confusion, we’ve put together a list of every credited bot that either returns for Transformers Dark of the Moon or makes their feature film debut ...

Click to continue reading ‘Transformers 3′ Characters: The Complete Guide

Our own Transformers: Dark of the Moon review overlooked some the glaring weaknesses in the film’s plot, editing, and acting, in favor of the sheer enjoyment and awe that was inspired by the amazing 3D action sequences Bay managed to capture on camera.

Transformers 3 blows away the competition, while Hanks and Roberts fail to capture the box office Crowne; Thomas Jane is howling mad that he didn’t get to star in Headshot but he does get to capture The Lycan; just like we predicted – Stiller and Vaughn take on Neighborhood Watch; Drew Barrymore lives in a Heist Society and Beyonce was born a Star - but was Leonardo DiCaprio?

It’s July 4th weekend and that means it’s a bonanza at the box office. The weekend saw director Michael Bay reunite with star Shia LaBeouf (but not Megan Fox, who has been replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as the non-CGI eye candy) for the third film in the mega successful franchise which is based on the Hasbro toys of yesteryear- (read Transformers: Dark of the Moon review).
