The 'Transformers' movie trilogy is complete, and we've put together a massive character guide listing every Autobot and Decepticon from all three films - 78 robots in disguise!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon arrives on Blu-ray and DVD, thus completing fans’ home video collection of Michael Bay’s Transformers trilogy.

Now that the entire series is available for home video movie-marathon satisfaction, we thought we’d follow-up our Transformers: Dark of the Moon character guide with a look back at the entire trilogy and put together a massive compilation to all the Autobots and Decepticons that have been featured in Bay’s Transformers universe (for better or worse).

We’ll start with the original Transformers (2007), move to the sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) and end with third chapter Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

We’re leaving no gear unaccounted for, either – from the indistinguishable robot clones to all the silly bots that pop up in each film, to the different versions of popular characters we saw in ...

Click to continue reading ‘Transformers’ Complete Movie Character Guide

Movie reviews are subjective - people know this yet they still complain when a movie they like gets a bad review from a critic. But should they even care?

[With all the heated discussion over our Green Lantern review (and pretty much any other superhero movie these days), we thought it might be an opportune time to resurrect this article from last year - Ed.]

“Opinions are like armpits – everyone has them and some of them stink,” so the old adage goes. This phrase rings doubly true when it comes to movie critics and their reviews of films.

The word “critic” is derived from the word “critique” which is defined by Dictionary.com as “a criticism or critical comment on some subject.” Film critics in general simply critique a movie based on their personal feelings and experiences. Why then do people get totally upset when a review for a film goes in the complete opposite direction of their personal experiences?

In other words: Why do people care if critics hate the movies they like?

[UPDATE: Check Out the First Official Transformers 3 Poster!]

The teaser trailer brought us to the first moon landing and the Super Bowl TV spot introduced us to the action. Now, the first full trailer and second official theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon is online, bringing with it the story.

Seemingly everyone involved with the Transformers movies thus far, from star Shia LaBeouf to director Michael Bay, has admitted to the faults of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and promise much, much better with their third and final go. We cannot deny that Transformers 3 looks promising, but we haven’t had a look into the story and characters yet… until now.

From losing writers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman as well as franchise poster girl Megan Fox, to losing appreciation from fans and critics alike with the sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, director Michael Bay has a lot to overcome to make a positive impression with Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The first step is acceptance and many of the cast of the previous film admit that their second Transformers outing wasn’t very good. Now, director Michael Bay is also continuing to play up the fact that mistakes were made with the last movie and that it was rushed. His goal however, is to make up for all of that with the third chapter in the live-action adaptations of the successful Hasbro toy franchise.

Many fans and moviegoers have a love-hate – maybe more of a like-hate relationship – with Michael Bay’s live-action adaptation of Transformers. With its sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, it got a lot worse and many of the problems were due to the misuse of the film’s Cybertronian characters.

I’m not referring to the issue of characters following canon, as they don’t need to for a good Transformers movie to be made. It’s because there were so many characters that never spoke, didn’t have a name, and a pair (actually, twins) there were not only very controversial, but met the level of annoyance that only characters such as Jar Jar Binks could attain. From the amount of new toys being added with Transformers: Dark of the Moon, fear is rising ...

Click to continue reading Transformers 3 Characters: Meet The Dreads

Twins have been a part of the movie industry for ages. Sometimes movie magic doubles up our favorite actor. Other times, real twins give us twice the fun. Check out our list of some memorable movie twins.

In honor of the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, we’ve compiled our favorite movie twins of all time. There are plenty of twins in movie history – some are memorable, while others are infamous.

In The Social Network, actor Armie Hammer portrays both Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss with a funny and charismatic edge. I had no idea it was the same actor playing both characters until the credits rolled and a recent edition of American Cinematographer Magazine explained the process.

Some scenes used motion-capture technology to duplicate Hammer. At some points, “tracking dots were applied to the face of actor Josh Pence to help facilitate visual-effects techniques that would replace his features with those of co-star Armie Hammer.”

Note: This is a speculative article, written BEFORE opening weekend box office numbers came in.

M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation of The Last Airbender hits theaters this week and upon closer examination, I dare say that there’s a lot at stake in regards to how this film performs at the box office – and not just in regard to Shyamalan’s career as a filmmaker.

Early critical reaction is that The Last Airbender is THE big movie fiasco of 2010; however, if the film manages to connect with audiences this weekend, it would seem that we’ll have another Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on our hands, and that would be a development that could steer Hollywood further down a path that many avid movie fans do not want to follow.

Major details on Michael Bay's 'Transformers 3' (now in 3D) have been released, focusing on the film's story, villain and most importantly, the plan of action to make the movie... good?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a pretty big disappointment last summer. After the first movie debuted in 2007 to launch a massive film franchise and re-ignite Hasbro’s merchandise toylines, we hoped Michael Bay would take the criticisms of his first summer Robot explosion party and improve upon it for the sequel.

Needless to say, our hopes were dashed and we instead were treated to a rushed and convoluted movie which increased on the problems of the first Transformers. Going forward, it’s hard for our expectations on Transformers 3 to sink any lower and Michael Bay seemingly understands this.

Everyone remembers the “feud” between Transformers director Michael Bay and Megan Fox, the star he introduced to the world. This resulted from the production of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen where Fox was clearly feeling confident in her career and not thinking ahead to Transformers 3. That was a big mistake…

The controversy and news reports following Megan Fox at the time had the young star stating in interviews that working for Bay didn’t involve acting and that working on set with him was a boot camp-like experience. In reply, Bay tossed her comments aside emphasizing that she’s young and doesn’t know what she’s saying, while taking credit for giving her the career, fame and fortune she has now.

We are less than 24 hours away from finding out who the Academy has awarded for excellence in film this year. But with many of you who proclaim the Oscars meaningless, maybe seeing who gets one of those little golden statuettes isn’t all that big of a deal.

Instead, what some of you may be more interested in is seeing who won a Razzie. The Razzies get given out just before the Oscars every year and honor the very worst movies the previous year had to offer. And isn’t it ironic that one of 2009′s biggest money-spinners, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, tops the list of winners/losers?

I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. Here is the 2010 Razzie award winners:

Worst Actress of 2009

With the amount of big blockbusters there were this year – films full of explosions, magic spells and other worlds meticulously rendered onscreen – I’ve been looking forward to seeing which of those films will get recognition at the Oscars. And, in the only category you’re likely to see many of the summer ’09 films in is undoubtedly the Best Visual Effects category, which in the past few years has included Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Superman Returns.

The Academy of Motion Picture Art And Sciences has today announced the shortlist for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. The list has seven films on it, which will then be whittled down to three and those will be announced along with the rest of the nominees on February 2nd. Here are the seven films:

We’ve all seen it before: A soundman’s boom mic dips slightly into frame or an entire camera crew shows up in the reflection of a shiny car window. For as long as there are humans making films, there will inevitably be mistakes in those films. We are, after all, only human (unless of course 10 more years pass and James Cameron figures out a way to change all that).

Personally, I love finding mistakes in movies – and not just the microphone and crew type, either. Mistakes in continuity, timelines and even scenery can sometime run amok in a film. The script supervisor is usually the person responsible for making sure that the character wearing a pink ball cap turned to the left and standing in front of a tall fichus tree in one scene looks exactly the same after ...

Click to continue reading 2009: A Big Year for Movie Mistakes

Remember the big debacle with the Wolverine piracy stunt? It stirred quite the debate across the net between classic respectful consumers vs the modern-day internet consumer with the oddest of excuses for what is known as stealing. But then the movie still made its money. They all make their money no matter what pranks people pull.

Me, in case you didn’t know… I actually pay for the products I use. It’s the old fashion thing to do!

But what of pirated movies? Was there a more popular movie to steal than Wolverine? There certainly was and we have the list of the top 10 most pirates movies of the year along with top 10 lists for total domestic box office earnings and top DVD sales.

I groaned out loud back in August when I found out about the record-breaking summer 2009 box office profits. Now we’re hearing new projections stating that when New Year’s Eve rolls over into New Year’s Day, the movie industry will have crossed a box office milestone, with profits predicted to exceed the $10 billion mark.

I’m sure we’d all be happy that our favorite medium was thriving in the midst of sharp economic downturn – that is, if so many movies hadn’t turned out to be crap this year. Now, the only thing I’m wondering (and you should too) is: “What lesson will Hollywood take from this?”

Variety is the publication cracking open the profit prediction.
Over the last little while we’ve seen a little bit of a public make-up session between Megan Fox and Transformers director Michael Bay.

Throughout the summer, leading up to and following the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, there was a ton of controversy and news reports following Megan Fox and what she had to say about the robot movies and their helmsman, Bay.

Some thought this might prevent or limit her role in Transformers 3 and that Michael Bay would act out of revenge and kill off her character. Of course, this was all unjustified and simply over-exaggerated out of the hype surrounding the film’s success this summer.

In July for instance, Fox said that working for Bay doesn’t involve acting and that ...

Click to continue reading Megan Fox Will Live Through Transformers 3

You Transformers fans know what I’m talking about when you see the name “Unicron.”

That’s right. If you thought Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen was a massive convoluted mess of nonsense and wasted… well, everything, coated in a big pile of explosions and sometimes-awkward visuals, then you’ve seen nothing yet. How can you introduce and misuse even bigger characters for Transformers 3 after what happened with Devastator and many others in Revenge of the Fallen?

Well, you introduce the Death Star Transformer!

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, Unicron was the antagonist character introduced in the 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie. He’s so big that he transforms into a mechanical planet, or as Obi-Wan Kenobi would describe, “that’s no moon.”

I’ll try to be as brief as possible in describing Unicron’s ...

Click to continue reading How To Go Bigger With Transformers 3: Unicron

I’m usually a pretty good barometer for how the majority of moviegoers feel about an upcoming film, but in the case of Transformers 3 I’m mystified. There’s been such a divisive split between those who hated Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen and those who think they loved it, that now I don’t know how many of you want to see a third installment (if only hoping one last time that it’s done right) – and those of you who cringe at the knowledge that Revenge of The Fallen made so much money Transformers 3 is going to happen no matter what.

[UPDATE: It's Confirmed: Orci and Kurtzman are NOT writing Transformers 3]

On Tuesday, word spread online that the writers for Transformers and its sequel Revenge of the Fallen, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, would not be writing the third installment in the franchise.

“Time for fresh blood!” writes Orci. “The main reason we would move on is because we risk getting stale and comfortable. If you only sing one song for too long, you miss the opportunity to sing news songs. We’ll see.”

Wow, Michael Bay is a serious glutton for punishment. Barely a breath-catching minute after the slavish effort that “Boom-Boom” Bay and the f/x wizards over at Industrial Light and Magic put in to get Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen in theaters this past summer, they’re proposing to run that marathon all over again in order to get Transformers 3 in theaters for Summer 2011.

Bay made the official announcement today – and he even threw in a funny little stab at Megan Fox in response to all the you-know-what she’s been talking about him recently. Oh, and Transformers 2 haters listen up: apparently they have a “great story” this time around (do you believe it?).

Here’s the the official message Bay posted on his official forum:

Check out some cool robot designs for Transformers 2 that didn't make it into the final film.

Today we’ve got a collection of concept art by artist Ben Procter (thanks to the very cool site ConceptArtWorld.com) that feature a ton of characters as well as some of key objects from Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

As you’ll see, Procter’s art is amazing and he’s worked on a ton of major feature films before including the Matrix sequels, Superman Returns, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and many others.

Some of the robot designs in the movie were really cool but some are too extreme. The Alice character in particular had zero purpose in the film ...

Click to continue reading Sweet Transformers Concept Art
