While Pixar’s Cars 2 still managed to gross north of $500 million worldwide in theaters this past summer, fans of the animation studio (pretty much) unanimously agree: that sequel did not represent the studio at its finest. Hence the additional excitement for the company’s next feature-length production, Brave, and newest Toy Story short, titled “Toy Story: Small Fry”.

Today we have a few more images from Pixar’s ‘darker princess fairy tale‘ and an excerpt from “Small Fry”. The latter of that pair will be shown in front of The Muppets later this month – in case you (for some reason) still needed more incentive to check out that Jim Henson puppet flick in theaters. Tom Hanks Says ‘Toy Story 4′ Is Currently Being Developed

Pixar concluded its acclaimed Toy Story trilogy with a bang last year, as Toy Story 3 grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, walked away with two Oscars for its efforts, and left many a moviegoer weeping after watching Andy say farewell to his beloved playthings. Now, however, fans may start crying for a different reason.

Assuming that Tom Hanks is to be believed, Toy Story 4 is indeed being actively developed over at Pixar. This news comes hot on the heels of another sequel from the company, Cars 2, having been given a decidedly mixed reception (even from devoted Pixar and Cars fans alike).

Pixar Releases ‘Toy Story’ Short ‘Hawaiian Vacation’ Clip

Toy Story fans still holding out hope for another feature-length continuation in the ongoing saga of Andy Davis’ toys are no doubt eagerly eyeing the Cars 2 release date, June 24th, 2011, in anticipation of once again seeing Buzz, Woody, and the gang on the silver screen.

Last week Entertainment Weekly gave us an early peak at images from the upcoming Toy Story short Hawaiian Vacation – and today, Pixar has released a thirty second clip from the short to give fans a taste of what they can expect.

As most Pixar fans know, each film the famed studio releases is preceded by a Pixar-made short film – starting with Geri’s Game which aired ahead of A Bug’s Life in 1998.

No this is not news that a Toy Story 4 is on the way (as of last November there are no plans for a fourth film) but rather our first look at the upcoming Toy Story short that will play before Pixar’s next film, Cars 2, this summer.

First ‘Toy Story’ Short Will Feature Ken & Barbie

Back in November, Pixar revealed that they weren’t quite ready to leave the Toy Story franchise behind and that they’d be revisiting its beloved cast of characters through a series of short films.

Producer Darla K. Anderson confirmed that we’d see the first Toy Story short debut in front of Cars 2 this summer, but kept the details of its premise under wraps. She did hint that a number of old favorites would be making appearances, but if you were anxiously awaiting the return of Woody and Buzz you might have to wait just a little bit longer.

‘Toy Story’ Shorts on the Way; No Plans For ‘Toy Story 4′

Given the critical and commercial success of Toy Story 3 this past summer, a fourth entry in Pixar’s flagship franchise probably seems like a no-brainer. Despite the sense of closure the third film provided for Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang, Hollywood continually reminds us that no property is truly finished until it stops making money.

But if Pixar operated the way most studios do, it wouldn’t have the incredible track record that it does – which is why it’s not particularly surprising to hear that we won’t be seeing a Toy Story 4 any time soon. However, it doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of this beloved cast of characters.

Infographics are the popular (and digestible) way to make statistics come to life, and this latest one (beautifully rendered by the good folks over at Know Your Money) is an infographic detailing the production budgets and earnings of all the Pixar animated movies that have been released to date.

From Toy Story 1 back in 1995 to Toy Story 3 (in theaters now), this infographic shows how much money went into making each Pixar hit and how much box office cash was ultimately returned on that investment.

New Toy Story 3 Featurette Reveals Mr. Pricklepants

We learned a few months back that former James Bond actor, Timothy Dalton, is voicing a new character in Pixar’s upcoming sequel, Toy Story 3. The character is called Mr. Pricklepants, a hedgehog who’s described to have “thespian tendencies,” which makes Dalton a great choice for the role (on top of the fact he has a brilliantly distinctive voice).

Those lucky enough to be in the room for the Disney’s D23 event earlier this year got a look at Mr. Pricklepants, along with the first full-length Toy Story 3 trailer. But we now have a new featurette (which premiered on the Disney Channel) featuring director Lee Unkrich and gives us our first official look at the character. Obviously we can’t cover absolutely everything, but sticking true to our core movie genres on the site, we’re just going to concentrate on the comic-book, sci-fi, action (and so forth) types of movies and take a look at what films had the maximum impact over this decade.

Toy Story 3 Gets IMAX 3D Release (Plus New Images)

Some new items have recently popped up about the upcoming Toy Story 3, the long-awaited and highly anticipated third film in the already amazing Pixar series. We have the news that it will be released in IMAX, and we also have a trio of new high-res images.

Let’s start of the with the IMAX news: the IMAX corporation and Walt Disney Studios yesterday announced that Toy Story 3 will be released in IMAX 3D theaters simultaneously with its release in regular theaters on its set date of June 18th, 2010. However, the film wasn’t originally shot for IMAX, so in Star Trek style it will be digitally re-mastered for it. This week:

The box office gets Wild; a Vampire Chronicles star moves to Cradlewood; Everything Must Go for Will Ferrell; Owen, Keener and Schwimmer Trust each other and Terrance Mallick’s Tree of Life withers in 2009.

Box Office

After a few years in post-production, Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are took the top spot with a mighty $32.4 million over the weekend. Catering to children and adults alike, it looks like this adaptation of the children’s book might make it to the century barrier.

Law Abiding Citizen came an impressive second with $21 million. The thriller has given a boost to the careers of Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler whose last movies underperformed.

Paranormal Activity scared up $20 million from only 760 screens for a $33 million total. It looks like the sky is the limit as Halloween approaches.

The full theatrical trailer for the highly anticipated Toy Story 3 hit last week to (mostly) high praise of its loveable familiarity and beautiful animation (when is that ever NOT the case with Pixar?). Got two new trailers for you today, both coming from “The House of the Mouse.” The first one is the theatrical trailer for Disney and Robert Zemeckis’s re-imagining of the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol, and the other is an exclusive clip for the Toy Story 3D Double Feature, which kicks off its two-week limited engagement this weekend.

A new TV spot has appeared online recently for the upcoming re-release of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, being shown as a 3D double-feature. I’m normally against the 3D thing (especially considering this kind of case where the films weren’t 3D to begin with), but since Pixar made amazing use of the technology this summer with their latest flick, UP, I’m going to assume they’ve implemented it just as well with this Toy Story 1 & 2 re-release.

Pixar’s John Lasseter was recently on hand at the Disney Animation Showcase in London, where he showed some footage and spilled some beans about the plots of the upcoming Pixar sequels, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

I can tell you upfront that the story revealed for Toy Story 3 pretty much confirms early rumors, while the plot of Cars 2 will be less down-home Southern-fried yarn, and more James Bond.
