The summer 2012 movie season kicked off in a big way this past weekend with The Avengers – racking up a record breaking $207 million domestic opening weekend box office haul. While you can read our review of The Avengers, hear us talk about the film in a special edition of the Screen Rant Underground podcast, as well as chat about the movie in our Avengers spoilers discussion – we’re already looking forward to what the rest of the summer has to offer movie-lovers.

Total Recall continues to be a mixed bag, as far as the general public is concerned. Some people are impressed with the action-packed futuristic world that Die Hard 4 director Len Wiseman has created; while others are still pining for the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action film.

Today we have the Japanese trailer for Total Recall to share, which plays up more of the sci-fi futuristic angle, and less of the eye candy provided by leading ladies Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale.

‘Total Recall’ Trailer: Colin Farrell’s A Futuristic Super-Spy On the Run

This summer’s Total Recall marks Len Wiseman’s first time in the director’s chair on a feature-length production since 2007′s Live Free or Die Hard. Actress Kate Beckinsale’s husband has been keeping busy since then by helming the pilot for the rebooted Hawaii Five-0 TV series and co-writing the last two entries in the Underworld franchise, including this past January’s Awakening.

Wiseman and Beckinsale are back and working together again (professionally) on this summer’s Total Recall, which is part remake of director Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle and part re-interpretation of the Philip K. Dick short story that inspired the latter. As promised with last week’s trailer preview, today we can offer a full teaser trailer for Wiseman’s film.

New ‘Avengers’ & ‘Total Recall’ Posters; ‘Seventh Son’ Concept Art [UPDATED]

We’ve collected up a small batch of promotional materials for three upcoming fantasy and/or sci-fi titles, including the red-hot-anticipated comic book flick The Avengers, Columbia Pictures’ updated take on Total Recall – and Warner Bros.’ latest fantasy novel-turned-movie adaptation, The Seventh Son.

On the Avengers front, we have yet another international poster for Marvel’s superhero juggernaut – which has literally been several years and movies in the making. Similarly, the first banner for Total Recall is now online, along with some high-resolution conceptual artwork for Seventh Son (which just barely began shooting this month).

‘Total Recall’ Trailer Preview Teases Slick Futuristic Action [UPDATED]

Following the release of a leaked Comic-Con sizzle reel “disguised” as a TV promo, we now have the first officially-sanctioned footage from the upcoming Total Recall: a project that is being billed as more a re-interpretation of Philip K. Dick’s original short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” – rather than a pure remake of RoboCop director Paul Verhoeven’s original adaptation (also titled Total Recall).

Unfortunately, that footage is all-too-brief and comes in the form of a teaser trailer… uh, teaser. Similar to the recent preview clips “announcing” the release of new trailers for such upcoming tentpole productions as Prometheus and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, this Total Recall promo only hints at greater things to come.

‘Total Recall’ TV Spot Teases A Stylishly Updated Sci-Fi Flick [UPDATED]

We were moderately excited about Len Wiseman’s Total Recall reboot/remake for most of last year, thanks in part to the casting of fan-favorites like Bill Nighy (Underworld) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) in pivotal supporting roles – along with the promise that the film will adhere more closely to the tone and themes of Philip K. Dick’s source material (the short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”) than director Paul Verhoeven’s enjoyable, yet undeniably cheesy, 1990 adaptation did.

Others will be stuck in pre-production for decades, getting passed from one executive to another in an endless game of hot potato. In Hollywood, it’s called getting stuck in “Development Hell.” It’s a place that film journalist and screenwriter David Hughes knows all too well.

‘Total Recall’ Official Synopsis & Kate Beckinsale Interview

One entry on our Most Anticipated Movies of 2012 list that seems to surprise a number of people is Total Recall: a film that’s part reboot of the popular 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action romp, part re-interpretation of the original Philip K. Sony Panel NYCC ’11: ‘Ghost Rider 2′, ‘Underworld 4′ & ‘Total Recall’

Sony made a big splash at New York Comic-Con 2011, bringing presentations and footage for their upcoming slate of blockbuster movies. The biggest films fans are expecting to see at NYCC are Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Amazing Spider-Man and the Total Recall remake, so the only question is: will Sony fulfill their wishes or leave them feeling disappointed?

‘Total Recall’ Set Pics: Crashed Vehicles, Green Screens & Jessica Biel

Director Len Wiseman’s upcoming Total Recall is one of those projects that straddles the often fine line between remake and reinterpretation. It’s not a scene-by-scene refashioning of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 film; however, if early descriptions are accurate, the new Total Recall also deviates significantly from Philip K. Dick’s original source material, the short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.”

Wiseman’s Total Recall will be a fairly a straightforward sci-fi adventure, in comparison to that of Verhoeven’s creation – which was largely just a violent Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle. It is also expected to focus more on the metaphysical themes and implications of Dick’s literature… and probably borrow a few tricks from Inception‘s playbook, when it comes to the art of mixing brains with brazen set pieces.

Kate Beckinsale Video Interview: Underworld 4 & Total Recall

Earlier this month we had the chance to briefly chat with Kate Beckinsale about her roles in Underworld: Awakening (which sees the return of her character, vampire “death dealer,” Selene) and the remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven fan favorite Total Recall.

The actress, who also plays Lori in Total Recall (the role that Sharon Stone originated), talked a bit about the pleasure she is taking in playing a character who is a full fledged villain in the remake; and the comfort she finds in revisiting a character she knows as well as Selene in Underworld: Awakening.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 waved its wand and unleashed some serious magic at the box office over the weekend. The final installment in the decade-old franchise obliterated records with its debut grossing an astonishing $168.6 million. The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International is just about here, which means that we (and a few of you readers) need to start plotting our itineraries and map routes that will help navigate the mad halls of the San Diego Convention Center in time to make all of those highly-anticipated panels.
