‘Torchwood’ Season 5 Won’t Air For ‘A While’

Captain Jack Harkness has never been a man to set your watch by, but patiently waiting fans of Torchwood are going to have to wait awhile longer, and not for the rogue time agent, but for series creator Russell T. Davies.

Following the general success of Torchwood: Miracle Day, Starz has expressed interest in the idea of a fifth season of the Doctor Who spin off–but in a recent interview Chris Albrecht, CEO of Starz gave some insight regarding the shows future and showrunner Russell T Davies:

You know, Russell is so busy. Obviously, we’re in touch with the BBC all the time. They are our partners on DaVinci’s Demons and the Harem project. We told them, we stand by ready for any news, but I think it would be a while before Russell came back to Torchwood.

‘Torchwood’ Star Joins Shonda Rhimes’ ABC Pilot; Future Miniseries In Jeopardy?

John Barrowman may be heading back to television – but potentially not in the way fans hoped. Barrowman has been cast in a new ABC drama from Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes called Gilded Lilys – creating questions about the fate of Torchwood.

Barrowman, who is best-known for his role of rogue Time Agent Captain Jack Harkness, will play Julius Ashford Lily, the charming favored son of the Lily family. According to writer K.J. Steinberg (Gossip Girl), the series is an epic love story set in 1895, and will revolve around the Lily Family and the opening of the first luxury hotel in New York City. The Lilys have reigned over New York’s elite for decades, but in the wake of a recent family scandal, their fortunes have shifted, both financially and socially.

BBC & Starz Sign Multi-Year Deal For More Drama Series

Even though American premium network Starz and the BBC have only one collaboration under their belts, the relationship between the two seems to be blossoming. Yesterday, the two television companies signed an agreement to bring multiple scripted dramas to their various audiences.

This follows generally a generally positive reception for Torchwood: Miracle Day, the fourth series of the popular Doctor Who spin-off. Starz contributed significant capital to the production costs for Torchwood in exchange for an exclusive US broadcasting license and at least some creative control.

There’s no news on precisely when or what the new hour-long series (plural) will be, but like Miracle Day, BBC Worldwide Productions will handle the bulk of the production duties with assistance and input from the Starz Original Programming team. The deal is a win-win for pretty much all ...

Starz Willing to Wait for ‘Torchwood’ Season 5 Until Russell T. Davies is Ready

After four episodes, Torchwood: Miracle Day is approaching the halfway mark of its ten episode run. During that time, the show has picked-up enough of an audience to have the powers that be thinking about the future of the series, and when the show might be ready for a fifth season.

According to Starz CEO Chris Albrecht, while they would like to see the series again, it’s really in the hands of series creator Russell T. Davies – whose busy schedule includes the development of the new series Cucumber for Showtime.

In a statement made during the Television Critics Association press tour, Albrecht said, “Torchwood is not one of the shows we went into thinking about a yearly return. [Davies] has a lot of things on his plate. ...

Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood made a splash in the land of the free when Starz premiered its miniseries Miracle Day on July 8th. To whet the appetites of the Harkness faithful and unenlightened geeks everywhere, Starz is putting on a Comic-Con panel today. If you aren’t lucky enough to be in San Diego, Screen Rant’s got you covered with a live blog.

The latest batch of Torchwood episodes centers around the titular Miracle Day event, wherein no one on the planet dies. This doesn’t mean that the entire population is immortal, just that they can’t die: people skill get hurt, get sick, they just don’t ever expire… with one notable exception.

‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’ Lines Up Guest Stars Galore

After releasing a teaser trailer in late April, the marketing blitz for the miniseries Torchwood: Miracle Day is now in full swing. To make the most of it, Starz has released the impressive line-up of actors making guest appearances during the show’s early-summer 10-episode run.

Apparently, Torchwood fans are everywhere, but the vast majority seem to congregate in Hollywood – at least that’s what this line-up suggests.

Joining series regulars John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Eve Miles (Gwen Cooper) and Kai Owen (Rhys Williams) will be new stars specific to the Miracle Day storyline, such as Mekhi Phifer (Lie to Me, Dawn of the Dead), Bill Pullman (Independence Day) and Alexa Havins (CSI: NY, Grey’s Anatomy).

In a decision that will either be regarded as brilliant or absolutely mad, it has been announced that Fox is developing its own version of the cult BBC show (and Doctor Who spin-off), Torchwood.

What could make this decision brilliant is that instead of making a mess of things (ala ABC’s Life on Mars), Fox is not only producing the show with BBC Worldwide Productions, but the original creator (Russell T. Davies) is set to write the script with the original production team (Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter) in tow.

Comic-Con: Torchwood & Being Human Panels

This Comic-Con panel was split into two segments with Being Human up first. Participants for Being Human panel included the Lenora Crichlow, Toby Whitehouse, Russell Tovey & Aidan Turner.

Being Human is about a vampire named Mitchell (Turner), a werewolf named George (Tovey), and a ghost named Annie (Crichlow). It’s about these three souls trying to understand themselves and fit into society in the process.

The first vision of Being Human was a sitcom but that later evolved into the supernatural show that it is today.

Russell Tovey was connected to the script by how it’s rooted in humanity.

Lenora Crichlon: her character is a very fresh take on a ghost. She’s trapped in the house she died in.

Russell Tovey started a wave in the auditorium, fulfilling a personal dream of his!

Hello from San Diego at Comic-Con. Today’s bit of weekly TV news is a bit short today but I have managed to include some not so good news about Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan, some good news for 24 star Keifer Sutherland, returning news for Jorja Fox on CSI, and TV ratings from last week.

Jorja Fox Returns to CSI

Jorja Fox’s relationship with CBS and CSI is an off-again, on-again event over the last few years. It looks like things are “on” again as Fox will be appearing in the upcoming 10th season premiere and an additional few episodes throughout the season.

When inquired if Petersen would return and CBS has no comment. Grr.

The regular readers of Screen Rant have a pretty good feel for how I look at shows and many of you tend to agree with my opinions in my different reviews. With that said…

In short, I’ve never been so moved or drawn into a show like this in my life. In fear of sounding like one of those fawning critics looking for studio media exposure, I have to say that Torchwood: Children of Earth was gripping, compelling and shocking, all at once. Oh yea, and incredibly entertaining.

Creator, lead writer and executive producer Russell T Davies brings a very good story to the viewers. When he put this together he said “I wanted to tell a story in which civilization snaps, in which we turn on ourselves, in which nothing is safe.”

Torchwood Premiering On BBC America

BBC America’s top-rated show, Torchwood, is returning for an epic event that will span five consecutive nights as it premieres in the United States on BBC America with Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Torchwood: Children of Earth, which was created by Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who, Queer as Folk) will be the lead show that launches BBC America HD.

In this new rendition of the mythos, the Torchwood team will be facing their most challenging threat ever, as this new danger puts Torchwood and all of humanity into danger.

The show will premiere on Monday, July 20th.

A new episode premieres each night from Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24 at 9:00 – 10:15 p.m. ET/PT. The previous night’s episode will encore at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
