9-Minute Preview of New ‘ThunderCats’ Cartoon Leaks

The premiere of the newly-rebooted ThunderCats cartoon is fast approaching, but you don’t have to wait to get a glimpse of the team in action. A 9-minute clip of the pilot has leaked onto the Internet, and you can check out this special preview now.

ThunderCats has been underway for the better part of a year, and is set to debut with a double-sized hour-long event on July 29th. The new version of the much-loved ’80s action cartoon is animated by Studio 4°C.

Fans of the original will note that the new series has a very different feel: the world is more sword-and-sorcery than space opera, and the mostly grown-up protagonists of the first cartoon have been made over into teens and twenty-somethings. Cartoon Network Unleashes New ‘ThunderCats’ Trailer

The ThunderCats are loose. After months of teasing, Cartoon Network showed off a full trailer for the new cartoon series at WonderCon last weekend. It was released to the Internet shortly thereafter.

The trailer represents the first extended look at the classic characters in their revived forms, with full battle sequences and voice accompaniment. Fans are also treated to their first glimpse of classic ThunderCats villains like Mumm-Ra and Slithe.

The tone and direction of the series seems to be taking a significant shift from the original cartoon. There’s a significant bit of geopolitics on display on Third Earth (for a kids’ show, in any case) and a more pronounced prophecy plot device.

ThunderCats Movie Footage is Dead on Arrival

It’s been just shy of a year since we had news regarding the oft-delayed ThunderCats feature film. Warner Bros was, rightfully, quick to abandon the idea of utilizing flesh and blood (and fur) actors to portray the iconic humanoid-feline heroes – setting animators to work on a TMNT-esque ThunderCats CGI film.

Now, nearly three years later, test footage from the now defunct CGI project has made its way online – raising the question will we ever see a modern ThunderCats film on the big screen?

New ThunderCats Animated Toy Offers First Look at Snarf

The live-action Thundercats film may still be in Hollywood turnaround purgatory but the recently announced animated reboot is Thunder, Thunder, ThunderCats Ho!

Fans who thought they might never see the ThunderCats gracing a television screen again will be glad to know that not only is the 80s remake on schedule for its 2011 premiere on Cartoon Network, but Warner Bros. Consumer Products has already started marketing toys for the series – and the re-imagined Thunder Tank gives us our first look at fan-favorite character, Snarf.

One week ago, we reported on concept art that offered fans a first look at Studio 4°C’s Eastern-inspired animation style – as well as the principle characters Lion-O, Panthro, Tygra, and Cheetara. However, noticeably absent was the team’s pet/side kick/comic relief Snarf.

Children of the ’80s, your latest nostalgia trip is drawing near. After announcing last June that ThunderCats would return to television on Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. has released the first official artwork and a revised plot synopsis for the series.

The new show will be animated by STUDIO4°C out of Japan. The animators are veterans of anime movies and TV shows, as well as notable western work like the latest Transformers animated series, as well as the Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight film tie-ins.

Fresh Details On The New ‘Thundercats’ Animated Series

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder Thundercats Ho!

This June, we were able to bring fans of the 80′s cartoon series Thundercats, the exciting news that Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation were teaming up to reprise the series as an, anime-style, “21^st century reimagining of the classic 80s cartoon series.” New details have emerged on the series, which is due to hit the small screen next year.

MTV spoke with producer Michael Jelenic at New York Comic Con, who says he has been “a little surprised by the visceral reaction to the property.”

New Thundercats Cartoon Series Coming Next Year…HO-O-O!

Some really great news dropping this afternoon for fans of the ’80s cartoon series Thundercats. According to MTV Splashpage, Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Animation will be teaming up to bring an updated version of Thundercats to the small screen in 2011.

Now here is the kicker – the new series will “use anime-style animation and promises to be a 21^st century reimagining of the classic 80s cartoon series.” So maybe fans shouldn’t get that excited over it just yet. Every time a classic cartoon gets the anime treatment, it just turns out…different than I remember it. G.I. Joe and Transformers are two good examples of how new versions of ’80s cartoons drastically differ from the old versions.

Open your desk drawer and file this under “S” for “Skeptical” but it appears that a copy of the Thundercats movie screenplay has hit the web – and thanks to a tip from Grizzlor at Thundercats Lair, we managed to read through a copy. So now we have to answer the looming question: Is this really a true copy of the screenplay for the Thundercats movie? If so, is it the first draft or the rewrite draft?

Insides sources close to the project are telling Screen Rant that Paul Sopocy (It’s Alive) has not only finished a first draft of the Thundercats screenplay, but was hired by Warner Bros. to do a rewrite, which has already been turned in. Thundercats Movie Not Happening?

The last time we posted about the gestating Thundercats movie it was to reveal some early concept art for it, which (especially if you’re a fan of the original cartoon) looked pretty badass. But apart from some concept images, there wasn’t any real movement on Thundercats, and in fact there was word of it being delayed or even “shelved.”

But with the success of movies based on ’80s cartoon/toy franchises like Transformers and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, it seems like a no-brainer that the studio would be doing everything they could to get Thundercats into theaters ASAP… right? Well, you’d figure, but Collider is now reporting that the movie is no longer happening, at least not at Warner Bros., where it has resided since 2007.

A Look at the Delayed Thundercats Movie

Another inevitable film that will arise from the classic 80s cartoons genre following the successes of Transformers (and undoubtedly next week’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) is Thundercats.

A proposed Thundercats feature film had been proposed years ago and later said to be entirely CGI. Now it seems that the project has been delayed as it sits in kitty litter development hell.

For those out their who have been eagerly awaiting for the upcoming Thundercats movie to arrive, we have a special holiday treat for you: the first trailer for Thundercats is here!

Ok… if you’re the type who reads the headings of these posts before the actual article, then you (should) already know that what has actually had people across Web yelling “Ho!” recently (aside from all the digital pimps out there trying to earn Xmas bonuses), is in fact a fan-made Thundercats trailer, which is…pretty entertaining.

The “trailer” was made by San Francisco graphic artist WormyTV, the same artist responsible for past photoshop classics like The Dark Knight teaser (which featured the first “real” image of Heath Ledger as the Joker), and the now infamous Spider-Man 3 gif (which featured the first “real” image of Venom).

Thundercats Ho! Do you remember Thundercats from the 80′s? I do. I thought Lion-O’s sword, The Sword of Omens, which he used to summon the team and do battle with Mumm-Ra and his minions was totally cool. I also liked Panthro’s cool toys and Cheetara’s speed.

In case you don’t know who / what the Thundercats are, they are a group of cats in humanoid shape that fled their home planet of Thundera after it was destroyed. After escaping that catastrophe, they rename the planet on which they landed ‘Third Earth.’ They must also constantly defend themselves from the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra who is hell bent on destroying them.
