We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

Comic-Con Panel for Thirst: The Anti-Twilight?

As the crowd thinned out after the Kick-Ass panel (which really did kick-ass), only a few hundred hard-core fans remained for acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s first Comic-Con appearance, promoting his vampire-romance Thirst.
As Chan-wook doesn’t speak English, a translator accompanied him in order for him to be able to interact with the audience. After expressing his appreciation for the Comic-Con fans, a trailer for Thirst was played for the partly empty crowd. The trailer was an intense look at a vampire who seems to be constantly interacting with women, whether he is loving them or eating them (and a lot of the time it looked liked both). There are some very gory parts in the trailer.

Chan-wook Park’s Vampire Film ‘Thirst’ Gets U.S. Release Date

Korean director Chan-wook Park’s latest film entitled Thirst has finally been given a U.S. release date by Focus Features, the studio which owns the U.S. distribution rights. The vampire horror-drama will open on July 31st, 2009, starting off its U.S. screenings in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, before moving onto a wider release.

Thirst recently won the prestigious Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival (tied with Fish Tank), and since its initial late April/early May release at home in Korea, it has been seen by over two million people and has since been sold to 20 countries across Asia, Europe and South America.

Thirst tells the story of a priest who accidentally becomes infected (read: turns into a vampire) when a medical experiment goes horribly wrong. The movie sounds suitably dark for director Chan-wook Park, the man behind ...
