This week:

It’s a stand-off at the box office as Cowboys & Aliens has a showdown with The Smurfs- but the Cowboys win; Simon Pegg has A Fantastic Fear of Everything; Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright are 21 and Over; Val Kilmer and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt gets interactive; John Cusack and Nic Cage re-team for The Frozen Ground and Antoine Fuqua gets ready to Storm Las Vegas.

Box Office

A fierce battle was fought at the box office over the weekend, as Cowboys & Aliens faced off against The Smurfs (read our review). Cowboys won the weekend taking $36.4 million, while The Smurfs had to settle for second place with $35.6 million. This is good news for The Smurfs, but bad news for Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: July 24, 2011

This week:

Captain America is The First Avenger at the box office; Harrison Ford stays on the Cowboy trail for Black Hats; Pierce Brosnan picks up Stephen King’s Bag of Bones; Seth Rogen and Zac Efron team for an R-rated comedy and the men behind Horrible Bosses take a Vacation.

Box Office:

Captain America: The First Avenger (read our Captain America review here) topped the box office over the weekend and bested the latest Harry Potter film. The Marvel Comics adaptation banked an estimated $65.8 million – similar to Thor (Warner Bros. must be feeling a little bit peeved considering Green Lantern‘s gross). The WWII-era superhero pic had an impressive debut – but it will be interesting to see how it plays overseas. This Week:

Harry Potter works his magic for a record-breaking opening weekend; Jonathan Liebesman hails Caesar; catch a first look at Colin Farrell in Total Recall; Joe Carnahan’s The Grey starts a war; get ready for Bad Santa 2… and 3? Sam Raimi’s Oz gets a logo; Clint Eastwood’s son Scott faces the good, the bad and the ugly in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Vin Diesel is Unknown.

Box Office

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 waved its wand and unleashed some serious magic at the box office over the weekend. The final installment in the decade-old franchise obliterated records with its debut grossing an astonishing $168.6 million. Harry Potter (read our Deathly Hallows, Part 2 review) grossed $92 million on Friday (including midnight showings which brought in $43.5 million) giving it the largest single day gross in history.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: July 10, 2011

This week: Transformers 3 holds steady at the top of the box office, while Horrible Bosses grosses an impressive $28 million to take the runner-up spot; Ghost Rider meets The Masters of the Web at Comic Con; Kang, Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Slater and McCallany join Stallone for Headshot; will Mel Gibson be in Mad Max 4 after all? Johnny Depp gets closer to Pirates of the Caribbean 5 as he makes $350 million from the Disney franchise!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon topped the box office on its second week of release. The Michael Bay directed action extravaganza grossed an estimated $47 million over the weekend to raise its total cume to $261 million, making it the highest grossing film of the year, so far. Movie Poster Roundup: ‘Conan the Barbarian’, ‘Real Steel’ & More

The weekly movie poster roundup had to take a small break while I dealt with some issues (I may or may not have been institutionalize under the Baker Act) but as of today it’s back in full swing – and I do mean FULL SWING. This was a busy week for posters as I located 59 posters from 45 different movies and believe it or not most of them are pretty darn good – no poorly executed X-Men: First Class posters this week.

One of the reasons we at Screen Rant like doing this weekly poster roundup – it allows us to share posters for films we may not otherwise cover but would most likely watch if given the chance. Take this week’s roundup for instance – there are only a handful of posters for mainstream films like

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: February 15th, 2009

This week:

Friday the 13^th was lucky for some at the box office; The Hardy Men keeps moving; Russell joins Ford and Fraser; in Crowley; Kevin James goes to the Zoo; Ayer pens Deep Sea Cowboys and are you ready to Escape to Donegal?

Box Office

Friday the 13^th is unlucky for some, but very lucky for people with profit participation in the movie. The horror remake slashed its way through $42 million over the weekend. Not bad for a movie with a $19 million budget. Expect the sequel soon.

He’s Just Not That Into You held up well and banked another $19 million from Friday to Sunday. A $100 million final total seems likely.

Liam Neeson’s Taken continues to hold well grossing another $19 million. The century mark is coming up fast. Taken is now officially the sleeper hit of the year.

The terrible looking Confessions of a Shopaholic rang up $15 million at ...
