Screen Rant’s Paul Young Reviews The Way Back

I don’t like to walk 200 FEET to get the mail everyday, so I have a tremendous amount of respect for anyone who can make a 4,000 MILE trek across an entire continent. That is exactly what a group of determined escapees attempt to do in The Way Back as they make the perilous journey from Siberia to India to gain their freedom.

The Way Back is loosely inspired by the book The Long Walk by Slawomir Rawicz, who claimed to be one of the three men that survived the trip – though the BBC uncovered evidence to the contrary shortly after his book was published. Regardless of what is true or untrue, The Way Back is a compelling story with filled strong characters, believable scenarios and ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Way Back’ Review

Peter Weir's latest film, 'The Way Back,' is a gigantic drama spanning 4,000 miles with Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Saoirse Ronan and Mark Strong. The new trailer is an epic taste.

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Peter Weir has a potential Oscar winner on his hands with The Way Back – at least that’s what early reviews are saying. The film features Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Saoirse Ronan and Mark Strong in an adaptation of Slawomir Rawicz’s memoirs, among other sources.

The buzz from recent film festivals is great, but now there is a trailer to see for yourself.

The Way Back follows a group of soldiers who escape from a Siberian gulag in the early 1940s. The group travels through the Gobi desert, Tibet and the Himalayas before settling in British India in 1942. According to industry buzz, The Way Back will have no trouble wowing its audience – and the trailer suggests the same sentiment.

In this Weeks Weekend Movie News Wrap Up::

Clint Eastwood drives to the top of the box office with Gran Torino; Ewan McGregor is Pierce Brosnan’s Ghost; Sienna Miller will not be visiting Nottingham; Morricone is not a Basterd; Moore, Neeson and Seyfried know Chloe; the Joker may have the last laugh in Batman 3 and Farrell, Weir and Harris are on their Way Back.

Box Office

Clint Eastwood showed his star power by capturing the number one position at the box office with a fantastic $30 million gross for Gran Torino. Clint’s Oscar touted movie was making good bank on limited release but it looks like the American masses love the ageing action icon. The film should have good legs and a final gross of $100 million is not out of the question.

Bride Wars should claim the runner-up position with about $20 million showing that women ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: January 11, 2009
