The Walking Dead season 2 is still a heavily-debated event, with some fans praising the show for its slow burn drama and character development, while other fans boo it as a simply a boring show that is suffering from the dreaded sophomore slump.

Despite the difference in overall opinion, it’s hard to deny that season 2 midseason finale, left us in a good (in this case meaning awful and tragic) place, and in doing so, helped the show redeem itself by both delivering cathartic payoff to the overarching mystery, and setting the stage for some major fallout.

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead were divided in their response to the first half of season 2, which saw Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors stuck in place on Hershel’s (Scott Wilson) farm while they searched for Carol’s daughter Sophia, who went missing after a highway onslaught by a zombie herd.

During the final moments of the season 2 midpoint finale, we learned that Rick and Shane’s (Jon Bernthal’s) big morality debate was all for naught: Sophia was already dead, one of many walkers trapped inside Hershel’s barn. ‘The Walking Dead’ Star In Talks For Frank Darabont’s ‘L.A. Noir’ Pilot

In an interesting turn of events, The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal is in talks to star in Frank Darabont’s period drama pilot L.A. Noir for TNT, despite still being alive on the series – for the time being.

Citing sources close to the situation, Variety is reporting that discussions between TNT and Bernthal have “barely begun” and that there’s “no certainty” that they’ll be able to come to an agreement. That being said, Frank Darabont did personally cast The Walking Dead, and it’s a fair to assume that Darabont would enjoy reuniting with Bernthal as he attempts to once-again take over the television world.

Frank Darabont Discusses ‘The Walking Dead’ Exit & New Series ‘L.A. Noir’

Since announcing a return to television with the upcoming TNT series L.A. Noir, it was inevitable that Frank Darabont would address his highly publicized departure from The Walking Dead, and he did so in a recent interview with TV Guide.

Naturally, due to the success The Walking Dead had enjoyed up to that point, and because Darabont is a well-known talent, the unexpected exit of the show’s lead creative voice became the subject of great speculation last summer. The reason for Darabont’s leaving was eventually blamed on budget constraints issued by AMC after The Walking Dead’s first season.

Through it all, Darabont remained silent. However, with the first Darabont-less Walking Dead episodes airing when season 2 resumes in February, now is probably as good a time as any for the filmmaker to put the issue ...

At seven episodes, so far season 2 of The Walking Dead is already an episode longer than the entire first season of AMC’s hit zombie series. After a somewhat mixed reaction to the finale of last season, fans should be happy to note that season 2 still has six more episodes before making way for season 3. So, whatever is delivered with ‘Pretty Much Dead Already,’ the story is far from over.

As far as season 2 is concerned, that is certainly a good thing. At seven episodes in (including the 90-minute season premiere) The Walking Dead writers have taken advantage of the breathing room a 13-episode season has granted them. In fact, they have practically put on a clinic in terms of decompressed storytelling.

Though she has produced such theatrical blockbusters as Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Gale Anne Hurd has recently found herself working with large-scale projects on the small screen. Now that AMC’s smash-hit The Walking Dead has solidified her as a top-notch producer in both formats, Hurd is turning her attention to the conspiracy-laden government facility Area 51.

Reportedly, Hurd is ready to begin shopping around a new hour-long drama based on the book Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, from author Annie Jacobsen.

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 3 Officially Greenlit

Zombie masses will continue to live on (or something like that) in AMC’s The Walking Dead, which has officially been renewed for a third season.

Following fantastic ratings for the first two episodes of the show’s second season – including record-breaking numbers for the season two premiere, titled “What Lies Ahead” (read our review) – AMC has gone ahead and (not surprisingly) put in an order for at least one more season of the horror/drama series.

After nearly a year of fan anticipation and anxiety about some drastic behind-the-scenes shakeups, The Walking Dead returned to the airwaves last night with a 90-minute season 2 premiere event.

Fans are still dropping their love/hate opinions in our Walking Dead season 2 premiere review; however, while the debate rages on about whether the season opener for AMC’s horror/drama was dynamite or just a dud, one thing is certain: from a ratings standpoint, The Walking Dead is an overwhelming success.

The Walking Dead season 2 is just hours away, so fan anticipation is reaching rabid zombie levels as AMC’s hit horror drama makes its return to the halls of the IGN theater at New York Comic-Con 2011.

However, aside from the excitement of seeing Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors once again try to make their way through a world that has become hell on Earth, there are even more pressing behind-the-scenes questions that need to be answered, such as the state of cast and crew morale in light of Frank Darabont leaving the show (being fired from the show, more accurately) and if looming issues like budget constraints will effect the path of season 2, once production starts on the post-Darabont episodes.

After barely escaping the massive explosion at the Atlanta CDC in The Walking Dead season 1 finale, Rick Grimes and company are venturing out on a seemingly endless abandoned highway in hopes of finding some semblance of human life in what remains of the world.

A vast and beautiful landscape, filled with ravaged vehicles and half-eaten bodies, presents itself as the setting for the premiere and certainly shows the scale of Frank Darabont’s vision for the second season of The Walking Dead – this vision which, for all intents and purposes, remains intact.

The wait is almost over for season 2 of AMC’s breakout hit The Walking Dead, and the promotion machine has gone into overdrive. The new trailer “Hope Survives” lets the characters shine and puts the undead on the back burner.

One of the things that makes The Walking Dead such a unique show is that it isn’t about a zombie apocalypse, it’s about people dealing with a zombie apocalypse. During the six episodes of the first season, most of the time was spent on conversations or transitional scenes – in other words, character development. The zombie attacks, while certainly awesome, are not the central focus of the series.

It’s been a long and grueling wait for The Walking Dead‘s many fans – but the wait for new zombiefied action just got a little shorter: AMC will be airing six short webisodes next Monday, just two weeks before the season 2 premiere.

The short stories will focus on a character who’s infamous for Dead heads, the crawling, bisected zombie girl that Rick Grimes encounters just after leaving the hospital in last year’s pilot episode. Show writers calls the character “Bicycle Girl.” The forthcoming webisodes follow the life of the girl named Hannah leading up to her death, un-death, and finally the iconic meeting with Rick.
