When awards season rolls around every year there always seems to be a group of films that are tapped to pick up their share of the major awards. 2010 is no exception and this year the likes of Toy Story 3, Inception, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, Black Swan and The Fighter are among those which have won awards already and look likely to pick up some Oscars as well.

However, when it comes to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), there are rules which often prohibit certain awards favorites from winning in some of the big categories offered by awards ceremonies.

Following the Oscars deeming the scores for Black Swan, True Grit and The Fighter ineligible ...

Click to continue reading Toy Story 3, The King’s Speech & More Ineligible For WGA Screenplay Awards

Ben Affleck is the man about Town; Shawn Levy is the Deadliest Warrior; Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion spreads; Sony Pictures is Insidious; Ron Perlman gets ready to Drive; Al Capone goes to Cicero; Harrelson, Foster, Cube, Buscemi, Heche, Nixon, Weaver and Wright visit Rampart; and more.

Box Office

Ben Affleck is back! The Oscar-winning star has topped the box office with The Town. The film, which he directed, starred, and co-wrote, brought in an estimated $23.6 million over the weekend. Affleck has had quite a decade, after his breakout hit Good Will Hunting alongside pal Matt Damon, he went on to star in a string of hits (and misses), headlining quite a few big budget action films. However, his relationship with Jennifer Lopez caused a tabloid frenzy, leading to over-exposure in the media – leading Affleck to shun the limelight in favor of supporting roles in smaller pictures. He made ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 19, 2010

The Expendables edges out five new releases at the weekend box office; Underworld 4 will rise in January of 2012; Mark Strong talks Green Lantern; creepy elevator images from Devil; Ryan Reynolds is one hard-working guy; Google is getting its own movie; the production schedule and shooting location for Super 8 has been revealed; and lots more.

Box Office

Sly Stallone and his brigade of manly men retained the box office crown for a second weekend as The Expendables was top dog yet again. The ultra-explosive action flick grossed an estimated $16.5 million, raising its 10-day total to just under $65 million in the U.S. Does this mean Expendables 2 will happen after all? If it does, then Chuck Norris had better join the party the next time around.

Screen Rant’s Vic Holtreman reviews The Other Guys

Disclaimer: I am not huge fan of Anchorman and my favorite Will Ferrel performance is from the film that put him on the map as a theatrical comedic actor: Elf. I know that people find the guy funny but to me, he plays essentially the same role in many of his films – clueless, yet egotistical with over-abundant quantities of self-esteem that would make any under-performing yet cocky high school kid blush.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play detectives Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz, terribly mismatched police partners who are essentially paper-pushers at their precinct. At the beginning of the film they (and everyone else in the police station) are vastly overshadowed by a pair of super-cops played by Samuel L. ...

Click to continue reading The Other Guys Review

Check out the new international trailer and some new images for the action-comedy The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

Back in April we got a look at the upcoming action/comedy The Other Guys with the first theatrical trailer. In my eyes it struck a nice balance of exciting action and silly comedy, and the film is one I’m looking forward to checking out this summer.

Today we have a new international trailer and some new images for The Other Guys for you to check out.

TRAILER

For the first half of the trailer you might have a sense of déjà vu, as it’s pretty similar to the first trailer. Around the half way point there’s some new footage and at the very end there’s some dialogue delivered by Eva Mendes that should get the attention of the male (or female!) readers.

I won’t say anymore, just check out the trailer for yourself, followed by a selection ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Other Guys’ International Trailer & Images

One of the most anticipated comedies of the year may soon be the upcoming Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy cop film The Other Guys. Along with a supporting cast of Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson, the movie looks great on a number of levels. And now we’ve got a trailer to prove it may end up being one of the funnier R-rated comedies of the 2010.

Adam McKay will direct the film with his Land of the Lost co-creator Chris Henchy– Wait! Don’t leave yet. From the looks of it, The Other Guys may be just what the pair needs to get moviegoers back on their side after that flop of a remake. While the story sounds like a mix ...

Click to continue reading Hilarious ‘The Other Guys’ Trailer

The True Blood: Season 3 one is pretty darn cool, but this motion poster for The Other Guys is absolutely amazing.
This week:

Lionsgate goes in for the Knockout; Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes and Damon Wayans Jr are The Other Guys; Michael Sheen talks Tron and Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Emma Roberts and Amy Madigan find out What’s Wrong With Virginia.

1. When Steven Soderbergh’s Brad Pitt starring Moneyball fell apart earlier this year it left a hole in the director’s schedule.

The Oscar winning director obviously likes to keep busy so he signed on to helm the female spy thriller Knockout.

The independent production didn’t have a distributor attached, but now Lionsgate have picked up the film.
