When awards season rolls around every year there always seems to be a group of films that are tapped to pick up their share of the major awards. 2010 is no exception and this year the likes of Toy Story 3, Inception, The King’s Speech, The Social Network, Black Swan and The Fighter are among those which have won awards already and look likely to pick up some Oscars as well.

However, when it comes to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), there are rules which often prohibit certain awards favorites from winning in some of the big categories offered by awards ceremonies.

This week is one of the biggest of the year for new releases on DVD and Blu-ray. Eight titles hit shelves just in time for the Holidays.

Every single genre (except horror) it seems will be available in this week’s slate of home video releases. Everything seems to come out today, from low-budget indies like Cyrus to action blockbusters like The A-Team.

There are even two animated features and a few Warner Bros. titles that made big waves at the box office and with critics.

The Expendables edges out five new releases at the weekend box office; Underworld 4 will rise in January of 2012; Mark Strong talks Green Lantern; creepy elevator images from Devil; Ryan Reynolds is one hard-working guy; Google is getting its own movie; the production schedule and shooting location for Super 8 has been revealed; and lots more.

Sly Stallone and his brigade of manly men retained the box office crown for a second weekend as The Expendables was top dog yet again. The ultra-explosive action flick grossed an estimated $16.5 million, raising its 10-day total to just under $65 million in the U.S. Does this mean Expendables 2 will happen after all? If it does, then Chuck Norris had better join the party the next time around.

Disclaimer: I am not huge fan of Anchorman and my favorite Will Ferrel performance is from the film that put him on the map as a theatrical comedic actor: Elf. I know that people find the guy funny but to me, he plays essentially the same role in many of his films – clueless, yet egotistical with over-abundant quantities of self-esteem that would make any under-performing yet cocky high school kid blush.

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play detectives Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz, terribly mismatched police partners who are essentially paper-pushers at their precinct. Sony Pictures Panel: Green Hornet, Priest & The Other Guy

The Sony panel will cover three films – two that are a fit for Comic-Con (Priest and Green Hornet) and one that isn’t (The Other Guys).

Priest

The panel starts off with the Tokyo Pop 16 volume graphic novel-based Priest. It spans from the beginning of time through the Crusades to the old west to today.

Director Scott Stuart was on hand along with Cam Gigandent, Steven Moyer, Karl Urban, Maggie Q and Paul Betany.

Scott was drawn to the project because he thought it was an amazing world, a different take on vampire mythology and an opportunity to create a brand new world.

‘The Other Guys’ International Trailer & Images

Back in April we got a look at the upcoming action/comedy The Other Guys with the first theatrical trailer. In my eyes it struck a nice balance of exciting action and silly comedy, and the film is one I’m looking forward to checking out this summer.

Today we have a new international trailer and some new images for The Other Guys for you to check out.

For the first half of the trailer you might have a sense of déjà vu, as it’s pretty similar to the first trailer. Around the half way point there’s some new footage and at the very end there’s some dialogue delivered by Eva Mendes that should get the attention of the male (or female!) readers.

One of the most anticipated comedies of the year may soon be the upcoming Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy cop film The Other Guys. Along with a supporting cast of Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. A handful of new posters have released recently and for your enjoyment, we’re sharing them with you. The True Blood: Season 3 one is pretty darn cool, but this motion poster for The Other Guys is absolutely amazing. I’ve never laughed so hard at a poster, even if a moving one is kind of cheating. Samuel L. Jackson & The Rock In ‘The Other Guys’

Fresh off the set in New York come a slew of photos of Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson from the upcoming Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy-cop comedy, The Other Guys. Those familiar with Johnson’s film repertoire might be surprised to find that there is not single tutu, fairy costume or alien child associated with this latest role.

The film is a collaboration between Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) and Chris Henchy. The pair recently worked with Henchy writing and McKay producing this summers Land of the Lost.

Lionsgate goes in for the Knockout; Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes and Damon Wayans Jr are The Other Guys; Michael Sheen talks Tron and Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Emma Roberts and Amy Madigan find out What’s Wrong With Virginia.

1. When Steven Soderbergh’s Brad Pitt starring Moneyball fell apart earlier this year it left a hole in the director’s schedule.

The Oscar winning director obviously likes to keep busy so he signed on to helm the female spy thriller Knockout.

The independent production didn’t have a distributor attached, but now Lionsgate have picked up the film.

Knockout, which will star martial artist Gina Carano in her acting debut, starts shooting in Januray.

Soderbergh’s next release is the Matt Damon starrer The Informant` which opens this weekend.
