Synopsis

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is a reboot of Universal’s famous monster franchise. It was originally created back in 1932 as part of the studio’s monster film series. It gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s with a trilogy starring Brendan Fraser, which also spawned the Scorpion King spinoff series. Universal is positioning this new version with Tom Cruise as the first installment of a potential shared universe and have several other reboots for monster characters planned, including Frankenstein, Dracula, the Invisible Man, and others. Russell Crowe is appearing in The Mummy as Dr. Jeckyll to serve as connective tissue.
