‘Jetsons’ Live-Action Movie Lands New Writers

A live-action adaptation of The Jetsons cartoon show does not technically count as a reboot/remake, but it may as well be one, given the pronounced negative reaction it’s prompted so far. A whole generation of people grew up watching the original Hanna-Barbera futuristic animated sitcom (which aired from 1962-1988) – and while there are definitely those who are not against the idea of a big-budget treatment of the classic cartoon, most folk seem perfectly content to let this particular piece of nostalgic entertainment remain a fond memory.

Warner Bros. isn’t giving up on the project yet, though, and has recruited Evan Susser and Van Robichaux to pound out a new script draft for The Jetsons. The two are taking over screenwriting duties from Fanboys and The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz scribe Adam F. Goldberg, who was the ...

Kanye West Confirmed As Potential ‘Jetsons’ Movie Design Artist

Even though a live-action film version of Hanna-Barbera’s prehistoric cartoon series, The Flintstones, was released all the way back in 1994, a similar Hollywood adaptation (complete with flesh-and-blood stars) has yet to be made based on that show’s futuristic sci-fi cousin, ie. The Jetsons.

Way back the day (re: in 2009) Robert Rodriguez was planning to make the Jetsons movie his latest cost-efficient, in-studio project, working from a screenplay by Adam F. Goldberg (The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz, Fanboys). Rodriguez eventually decided to instead move ahead with his own original hyper-colorful kid-friendly effects pic, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and Peter Segal (Get Smart, Anger Management) was briefly considered as a replacement.

Rodriguez and Antal Talk Predators, Spy Kids 4 & More

One week after producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal spoke to SXSW audiences and released the Predators trailer, more revelations from the duo have come to light. Cinematical shared the interview and we’re here to give you the best bits. It’s not all Predators, either; we’ve got Spy Kids reboot and Jetsons updates as well.

In response to how they plan on re-introducing the Predator:

Nimrod Antal (NA)- “I think the hunt, and suspense. Trying to take it back to what works in classic horror films and trying to keep the monster in the shadows as opposed to throwing him in your face right off the bat.”

Live-Action ‘Jetsons’ Movie Gets ‘Smart’ New Director

How did this news slip past us all? According to a source that the guys over at Pajiba have, Robert Rodriguez won’t be directing the long in-development live-action Jetsons movie. It was only this summer that we got word that The Jetsons was firmly on its way, with an early draft of the script having been written, and Rodriguez himself sounding enthusiastic after he said he’s been working on ideas for the adaptation for a long time.

However, Rodriguez has his fingers in a lot of pies right about now: He has his full-length Machete movie (currently in the editing stages); he’s heavily involved in the Predators reboot; apparently he has Spy Kids 4 in the works (it was only a matter of time…); and, of course, there’s the much-anticipated, long gestating Sin ...

Robert Rodriguez To Film Jetsons Movie Next Year?

If Robert Rodriguez wasn’t a busy enough man, he goes and adds yet another project onto his to-do list. He has his first ever fully fledged sci-fi movie coming out next year called Nerverackers, his full-length version of the Machete fake trailer from Grindhouse currently in development, he’s heavily involved with the Predator sequel/reboot (retitled Predators) which has a tentative release for next year, and of course there’s the long awaited sequel to Sin City (which Rodriguez says he’s already talked with some of the key players about).

So what has Rodriguez added to his already overflowing plate? A live-action Jetsons movie.
