Third ‘Hulk’ Movie Coming in 2015?

One of the most surprising developments in The Avengers, based on early reviews and reactions, is that the Incredible Hulk is finally awesome on the big screen. In fact, it has been said on more than one occasion that the Hulk steals the entire show.

Perhaps as a result of that success, Marvel’s President of Consumer Products, Paul Glitter, recently talked about Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming television adaptation of The Hulk and spinning it off as a major motion picture in 2015. Scroll down for details.

“[After spinning 'Hulk'] off to a stand-alone [television] program next year, [Marvel will support said program with a big-budget feature film in 2015].”

Everyone knows that when it comes to comic book movies, studios sign multi-picture contracts with their talent with the hope they can make sequels and retain their cast at affordable rates. To no surprise then, actor Tim Blake Nelson who played a key role in The Incredible Hulk has a deal in place that could bring him back for The Incredible Hulk 2.

The only issue then is that there may not be another Hulk solo film for quite sometime. Former ‘Hulk’ Eric Bana on Mark Ruffalo ‘Avengers’ Casting

While at New York Comic Con, promoting his ex-CIA agent role, starring alongside Cate Blanchett (Robin Hood) and Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) in director Joe Wright’s, Hanna, former Hulk, Eric Bana, offered a few thoughts on Marvel’s Mean-Green-Machine casting troubles.

Though he was there to promote Hanna, Bana took a minute to answer a question about the recent controversy surrounding Edward Norton’s exit from the Hulk role - as well as the decision to have Mark Ruffalo step in for the Avengers (as Bruce Banner and his CGI anti-hero) as well as any potential Hulk sequels.

Yesterday we rekindled the discussion on what plans Marvel Studios has in store for moviegoers post-The Avengers. By far biggest panel and one of the biggest news-generating events at this year’s Comic-Con was of course, Marvel Studios’ presentation for Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers. Of the revelations and announcements made by Marvel, the most controversial is Mark Ruffalo’s taking over of the character Bruce Banner from The Incredible Hulk star Ed Norton.

Marvel Studios directors Jon Favreau and Joss Whedon were both questioned on the matter of replacing Ed Norton and the challenge of breaking continuity. It’s been a big month for Marvel Studios news and if the earlier report about their plans for San Diego Comic-Con has any truth to it, it got a lot bigger.

A few weeks ago we wrote about the rumor that the folks at Marvel were looking into the strategy of introducing members of their vast line-up of lesser known characters through short films attached to the theatrical releases of their tentpole big budget superhero epics. First was the way they handled the ridiculous casting rumors surrounding Captain America. His Hulk re-do debuted alongside Iron Man in the summer of 2008 to relatively strong fan and critical reception. William Hurt, who played Gen. Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in The Incredible Hulk, the man who desperately wanted to hunt down and stop Edward Norton’s big green alter, spoke to some media folk for his role in The Yellow Handkerchief yesterday. In the roundtable interview he was asked about the future of his character General Ross for the in-development films at Marvel Studios.

As for appearances in either Iron Man 2 or Thor, he said he wasn’t contacted but that if Marvel called him up about it, he’d certainly answer. There’s not too much of a surprise here since his character is unnecessary for the story of those two character films, but I’d expect to see him perhaps in some way, shape or form in the future since we know

Yesterday, I read online snippets from an SFX Magazine interview with Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige where he talked about Marvel Studios establishing their key characters on their own and how they were fortunate that it worked beautifully for Iron Man, their first self-financed film. This was of course absolutely necessary for the plans of a lead-up to the Avengers movie to be made a reality for Marvel Studios.

On February 2nd Marvel Animation will unveil their newest animated feature, Planet Hulk, which is based on writer Greg Pak’s 2006-2007 storyline from The Incredible Hulk comic books.

I had a chance to catch a screening of Planet Hulk this past week, and I have to say: It’s pretty entertaining. Greg Pak’s storyline helped catapult the Hulk back into limelight (no pun) and not having read the comic, I could see why after viewing the movie: this is the kind of Hulk story people want to see. It’s Hulk totally unleashed and smashing things harder than ever, with characters and villains who are more of a match for the green giant – and best of all, a story in which Hulk, the monster, is transformed into a bonafide hero.

Capone at Ain’t It Cool News had a chance to interview the talented and hands-on actor/producer for his work on the documentary, By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, where he was specifically asked to talk only about that project.
