Hunger Games: Catching Fire, based on the 2009 Suzanne Collins young adult novel, chronicles the events following Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark’s (Josh Hutcherson) win in the 74th annual Hunger Games. Angered by the pair’s dual win, which defied the traditional rulebook, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) plans to quash unrest in Panem on the 75th anniversary of the games. Utilizing the “Quarter Quell,” which allows the President to introduce a twist during Quadranscentennial competitions, Snow elects to recall 24 prior Hunger Games winners, including Katniss and Peeta, back to the arena – to once again fight for the honor of their district and their lives.
