CBS is the last of the big four to announce its first cancelled shows of the season. Jim Belushi's 'The Defenders', NYC sitcom 'Mad Love' and '$#*! My Dad Says' are all out.

Amidst the flurry of announcements from all the major networks, CBS has finally let its cancellation plans be known. Comedies $#*! My Dad Says and Mad Love as well as courtroom drama The Defenders will not be returning in the fall.

So far in the 2011 pilot season, CBS has both added and subtracted the least amount of shows among the big four networks. This shouldn’t come as a surprise – CBS regularly leads the ratings race, and therefore has less reason to make the kind of sweeping changes that both Fox and NBC announced last week.

The Defenders is, or was, a courtroom comedy/drama starring comedy veteran Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell.
For 37 years, the People’s Choice Awards has been celebrating the fan favorites in film, television and music. In preparation for tonight’s awards ceremony, over 35 million votes were cast by the American public in hopes that their favorite film, television series, actor or musician will take home this coveted award.

For the second year in a row, the multifaceted Queen Latifah will be serving as host of this fanatical gala. With over 43 separate categories having to fit within the given timeslot, something tells me that Queen Latifah is going to be forced to move things along at a swift pace in order to fit each category within the 2-hour time-limit.

CBS has shifted its midseason schedule to accommodate the debut of the new 'Criminal Minds' spinoff. Find out what shows got moved in our report.

CBS has been pretty lucky this season. Unlike its rival networks, which have had to cut mediocre shows (and even some good ones), CBS has had the luxury of keeping all of its new shows on the air. In fact, the network has found enough success with its lineup of programs that it now has the luxury to spice things up a bit with new scheduling.

In a recent news release, CBS announced that it was moving the relatively popular cop drama Blue Bloods from its Friday night slot to Wednesday nights at 10:00 pm for a four-week run beginning January 19th.

Given the fact that Friday is a weaker night for TV competition, CBS is testing whether Blue Bloods‘ success (it was number one among 25-54-year-olds in its former timeslot) can carry over to ...

Click to continue reading Midseason Schedule Shift: CBS Moves ‘Blue Bloods’ & ‘The Defenders’

(11/16) Update: Rubicon and Running Wilde

Each fall, over 50 new and returning television series hit the air on network television alone. Unfortunately, the addition of new series, combined with old favorites, puts the television viewing audience in an interesting predicament.

Should viewers continue to tune into shows they’ve become accustomed to watching or replace it with a new series that might not last the season?

Because of that reoccurring rhetorical question, many shows beginning their freshman year, along with a few returning series, aren’t able to deliver respectable audience numbers. While each network has their own sliding scale regarding what exactly respectable numbers represent, the outcome is still the same. Series that are unable to garner a large enough audience for the networks (to justify their respective production budgets and time slots) are cut. While there ...

Click to continue reading Canceled Or Renewed: 2010 TV Status Update Guide

With CBS's 'The Defenders' being the second new legal drama attempting to draw some of the Wednesday night audience, will it be able to prove itself against the competition?

CBS’s legal procedural The Defenders stepped up to the plate last night. In a television climate that’s already filled to the brim with legal dramas, The Defenders attempted to separate itself by mixing humor in with the drama. While Wednesday night is already full of hit television shows, what made it even harder for this new series to find an audience is that The Defenders was up against ABC’s new legal drama, The Whole Truth.

Saddling up as what will hopefully be our new favorite lawyers, Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell play Nick Morelli and Pete Kaczmarek, two of Las Vegas’ “best” defense attorneys. While this is Belushi’s first foray into the legal genre, this is actually O’Connell’s second legal pilot of the season.

Initially, O’Connell was cast as a defense attorney in David ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Defenders’ Series Premiere Review & Discussion

It’s time to dust off your remote and make room on your DVR, because the 2010 Fall television season is upon us. With over 20 new TV series premiering this month, figuring out what to watch may be a tad overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve watched almost every new premiere and have put together a comprehensive guide of all the new shows, their premiere dates and, for those interested, a mini-review to let you know whether or not each series might be worth your time.

Included in the bunch are Kurtzman and Orci’s Hawaii Five-0 remake for CBS, J.J. Abrams’ spy drama Undercovers for NBC and the long-awaited superhero drama from ABC, No Ordinary Family. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to see NBC’s Outsourced (take that as a sign) and the series premiere of Law ...

Click to continue reading Fall TV 2010: New Shows Preview & Premiere Dates

It has been revealed that Heroes star Masi Oka (the time-traveling Hiro) has come up with an idea for a movie called The Defenders, an idea which has been picked up by Dreamworks for development. The wheels of production for the movie have already started turning, with Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on-board to produce, Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) on-board to write the script, and D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) in talks to direct.

In the vein of the upcoming Gerard Butler film Gamer, The Defenders is taking the world of online multiplayer video games and making it into a big-screen adventure. From The Hollywood Reporter comes the following synopsis:

“The story centers on a group of mostly teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game, each unaware ...

Click to continue reading Dreamworks Developing MMORPG Movie ‘The Defenders’
