The Dark Knight Returns (To Theatres) January 2009

Now that The Dark Knight has conquered the box-office (current total: $950 million worldwide!) Warner Brothers has their sights set on a new goal: winning a handful of Academy Awards.

The studio plans to re-release the blockbuster sequel to Batman Begins this coming January - a period when voting for the Oscars is in full swing. Although it remains to be seen on just how many screens they plan on put it.

Does anyone realistically think The Dark Knight has a shot of nabbing nominations outside of the “Best Supporting Actor” and “Best Cinematography” categories?

Oh Baby... Iron Man 2 In IMAX And 3D?

This will be my face if I get to watch Iron Man 2 in IMAX 3D

Oh man, oh man, oh man… I really hope Jon Favreau gets his way with this (and I’m betting he will!).

At a press conference promoting the Iron Man DVD (which you can win here) and the Blu-Ray version, Favreau talked a bit about Iron Man 2 - and boy did he have some stuff to say that will geek out fans of the first film!

The Top 10 Inevitable Movie Reboots

As we all know, Hollywood is the epicenter of not only fads, but also ripping off copying what works from other studios. We’ve all seen this before many times. One studio puts out a successful movie in some genre and within 6-9 months we see a bunch of movies coming out trying to capitalize on the popularity of the first one.

Shadows Of The Dark Knight: The History of Batman - Part 2 of 3

Shadows Of The Dark Knight: The History of Batman - Part 2 of 3

This is the second in a 3 part series covering the history of Batman. You can read part one here.

In 1966 Batman was given a shot in the arm by the hit Pop Art inspired television series that is still iconic today. Starring Adam West and Burt Ward as Batman and Robin, as well as a wealth of guest stars including Caesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Julie Newmar and even horror icon, Vincent Price, Batman was a show that was watched and treasured by adults and children alike. Bright colours and Dutch angles peppered the show, as well as the thunderous and vivid onomatopoeic cries of “Pow”, “Bam” and “Biff.”

Depp And Hoffman (NOT) Confirmed For Batman 3

[UPDATE: This rumor is utterly and completely baseless. Confirmed by AICN.]

A little over a month ago we reported that noises were being made stating that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman would be joining The Dark Knight sequel (referred to now as Batman 3). Supposedly they would be playing the Riddler and the Penguin, respectively.

We took this with a very large grain of salt, but now there is more news indicating that the casting of these two actors may be moving forward.

Batman 3 Villain Update

We all want news on Batman 3. Is Nolan going to direct it? Is Cher going to play Catwoman? No matter how small the news is or how strange it may seem we can’t get enough tidbits about the next Batman film.

Well, Aaron Eckhart recently gave away some details about the chances of him coming back for a second time and Guy Pearce has also talked about him re-teaming with Nolan on a Batman film following their sterling work on Memento.

Be warned - There are major spoilers below if you are one of the three people left who still haven’t seen The Dark Knight.

Shadows Of The Dark Knight: The History of Batman - Part 1 of 3

This is the first in a 3 part series covering the history of Batman.

Now that The Dark Knight has crossed the magic $500 million barrier at the US box office and grossed over $900 million worldwide, Batman is once again a true cultural phenomenon. It is perhaps now relevant and interesting to look at the history of the character to see how the he has had such an enduring appeal over the last 70 years.

Since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in May of 1939, Batman has become not only an iconic comic book character, but also a major character on television, radio, novels and of course, the big screen.

Screen Rant Guests On The Cinema Blend Podcast

I know that people have asked why we don’t have a regular podcast here at Screen Rant. I made an attempt about a year ago to do a weekly podcast before we had a great stable of writers, and I found it extremely difficult to do alone.

So what about now, you ask? Now it’s an issue of time, or rather not enough of it, plus trying to coordinate a time that most of us can get together when we are located across the country (with Niall in the UK!).
