The Dark Knight Rises may well be the most highly-anticipated film in years – to the point that its IMAX midnight showings are already selling out in some cities. Hence, anything even remotely resembling TDKR news is automatically newsworthy.

Recently, Christian Bale talked to Style Magazine about his role as Batman in Christopher Nolan’s beloved Batman trilogy, as well as his relationship with the dearly departed Heath Ledger, who played the Joker in The Dark Knight (and posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for it).

Fan-Made ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Opening Credits: Bane’s Master Plan

Chris Nolan’s Batman movies have always inspired a huge amount of fan art - whether it be posters or images or mashup videos, and The Dark Knight Rises has been no exception.

However, it’s rare that we see a fan-made Bat-vid that uses original footage – as opposed to, say, a mashup of clips from the films. Today we happen to have one of those rare birds, in the form of an opening credit sequence that can probably best be described as the Batman version of those iconic opening credits from David Fincher’s Se7en.

The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are not just duking it out for the title of ‘superhero movie king of summer 2012′ – they are also battling for the title of ‘most merchandised superhero movie of 2012.’ There’s no better evidence of this fact than the number of toys, collectibles and sculpted statuettes from both films that are starting to be revealed on the Interwebs.

A new statuette of Iron Man’s Mark VII armor from The Avengers already has fans buzzing, and we’re adding fuel to the fire with some new Avengers accersories that include the iconic team Quinjet, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, which serves as the mobile command center for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his team of secret agents.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Rumored Star Confirms Their Involvement

It’s long been presumed that the League of Shadows, as it was portrayed in Batman Begins, would be returning in some form in co-writer/director Christopher Nolan’s final installment in his Caped Crusader saga, The Dark Knight Rises.

Rumors about how the dangerous organization will fit into the plot of the film have long been circulating, as has more solid, but still unconfirmed word about younger stars such as Josh Pence and Joey King portraying youthful versions of characters such as LoS head Ra’s al Ghul and his daughter, Talia.

Today, we have some additional fuel to add to that particular fire, in the form of confirmation from a longtime rumored Dark Knight Rises player that they are involved with the film – in some form, at least.

Sure, in one sense the movies of 2012 will be a smattering of the usual varieties, in the usual genres, encompassing the usual range of quality. However, within that spectrum of cinematic potential, there are some definite matters of interest amongst hardcore movie geeks that will be addressed or proven within the next calendar year.

There’s no doubt about it: even in a year as jam-packed with highly-publicized titles as 2012, The Dark Knight Rises still stands out as THE major cinematic event of the year (and certainly our most anticipated).

Tickets for 70 mm IMAX midnight showings of Dark Knight Rises are now (or will be soon) available for purchase in certain locations, with big-city theaters having already sold out, more than six months in advance of the film’s actual release. It’s no wonder then that star Christian Bale admits he felt “immense pressure” while working on the film, as is revealed in a new EW article about Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ IMAX Tickets Already Selling Out

Fun fact: Movie theaters have a lot of input into when they want to sell tickets to films showing in their theaters.

After the success of The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue, which previewed before Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, some theaters apparently thought that they could continue the momentum of the high ticket sales motivated by Dark Knight Rises fandom, by selling advance tickets to the actual premiere of the film this upcoming summer. As it turns out, they were right.

With still half a year to go until its official July 20th release date, The Dark Knight Rises has already sold out the IMAX midnight premieres in both the AMC Loews Lincoln Square theater in NYC, and all but two handicap slots at the AMC CityWalk ...

Lionsgate’s reboot of the Judge Dredd movie franchise, Dredd, hasn’t received much attention to date, partially because fellow 2012 superhero titles like Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and even Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance have been hogging the spotlight. Recent conversations concerning The Dark Knight Rises have largely focused on the film’s main (bulky) villain Bane, touching on subjects like his mask-muffled voice, unsightly skin blemishes, and just why exactly director Christopher Nolan selected him to be the primary antagonist in his final Batman movie.

The full-length Dark Knight Rises trailer also provided a better look at one of the film’s more mysterious players: Anne Hathaway as the sultry Selina Kyle/Catwoman, an anti-heroine who (in keeping with her comic book origins) looks to oscillate between being a self-serving criminal and a comrade of Christian Bale’s Caped Crusader – depending on the situation.

Comic book writer Grant Morrison said it best: “[Every bat-suit is] completely different” – sometimes insanely different – “but they’re all instantly recognizable as [the-bat-suit].”

Unlike Superman, who has more or less been wearing the same blue and red strongman since Action Comics #1 in 1938, Batman just keeps changing his appearance every few years to keep up with the times. Basically, he’s the Madonna of superheroes.

Which is why I created this Batman infographic — to keep track of every single “significant” bat-suit across all mediums (which excludes a grand majority of the bat-suits featured in non-canonical comic books, in case you were wondering).

Warner Bros. has provided several movie bloggers and entertainment journalists with an exclusive first look at the Dark Knight Rises prologue in all its IMAX glory; as you might imagine, early reactions to the footage have been overwhelmingly positive, with the exception of one (minor) complaint: Tom Hardy as Bane is somewhat difficult to understand when he speaks, due to the muffling effect of his life-preserving mask.

Sadly, you may still struggle to understand the muscular villain all too well in the newly-released full-length trailer for The Dark Knight Rises - though, the rest of the second theatrical promo is so impressively ominous and (for lack of a better word) epic in tone that you probably won’t care.

‘Dark Knight Rises’: Christopher Nolan Talks Production, Timeline, & Bane

Post-production on The Dark Knight Rises has only just begun, but co-writer/director Christopher Nolan has been taking a “break” from the editing process of late to show off semi-complete footage of the film’s prologue to the press and answer journalists’ questions concerning his decision to feature Bane as the movie’s primary antagonist (though, rumors persist that another famous villain will also make an appearance in the Batman movie trilogy finale).

Today, we have some additional ruminations and “answers” from the filmmaker – touching on subjects such as his feelings about Dark Knight Rises being his (by all accounts) final Caped Crusader flick, when the film takes place, and even more insight into how Bane ended up being chosen as the Dark Knight’s ultimate foe.

Casting News Sparks More ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Secret Villain Rumors

While Chris Nolan and Co. may have known for certain who the primary villain in Dark Knight Rises was years ago, everyone else only found out at the beginning of 2011. Heck, even after Tom Hardy was officially confirmed to portray Bane in the film, rumors continued to circulate that someone like Dr. Hugo Strange (in some capacity) would also face off against the Caped Crusader in Nolan’s trilogy finale!

There is one well-known Batman antagonist who has long been rumored to appear in the movie; however, to further discuss that subject – and, to address a recent story that seemingly confirms the character’s involvement in Dark Knight Rises’ plot – we’ll have to venture into some potential spoiler territory. Ever since it was announced that Bane was the villain in The Dark Knight Rises, fans of Batman comics have been engaged in wild speculation about whether or not Chris Nolan would take the daring approach of emulating the now-classic “Knightfall” storyline from ’90s Batman comics, in which Bane – both literally and figuratively – ‘breaks the Bat.’

Today we have a new official Dark Knight Rises teaser poster – one that not-so-subtly suggests that the Dark Knight is indeed in for a hard fall, before his inevitable ‘rise.’

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ IMAX Prologue: Bane Makes A Grand Entrance

Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan hosted an early screening of the 6+ minutes of footage from The Dark Knight Rises that will screen in front of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocal in select IMAX theaters yesterday evening in Los Angeles. Nolan introduced the footage, which consisted of the introductory prologue followed by a series of shots from later portions of the film.

The director expressed a desire to invite people back into the experience of the grandeur of cinema, something he feels has been “chipped away” in many respects. Nolan hopes that audiences who see the IMAX footage will conclude that it is worth their while to return to experience the film in its entirety on the expansive screens when The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th, 2012.
