When Jane Lynch took the stage for The 63rd Emmy Awards after a chaotic opening number, one should have known that the night will be filled with some surprising winners being announced.

After Modern Family practically swept the awards in comedy, with wins in all but two categories, it was on to reality/variety. Once again, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart took home the coveted awards in this category, but not without The Amazing Race and Saturday Night Live each picking up a single award.

Jon Stewart Adding Larry King to ‘The Daily Show’

For Larry King, retirement was never an option. Early reports suggest King is looking to get back to work, as an occasional contributor for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

The Daily Show frequently turns to notoriously funny people like Lewis Black, John Hodgman, and Kristen Schaal as contributors, so King’s name might come as a bit of a surprise to many.

The style of Larry King Live was more of an easy-going, conversational one, a far cry from the frenetic, whip-smart comedy often on display at The Daily Show. Occasionally, King was left to play the role of good sport, seemingly caught off-guard while guests harangued him.

Jon Stewart’s Daily Show Bests ‘Conan’ in January

Jon Stewart and his Daily Show are off to a promising start in 2011. The ratings for January are in and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart sits comfortably perched atop all late night cable series including Conan, the new TBS homestead for Conan O’Brien and his network television-rejected antics.

Stewart’s Daily Show averaged 1.5 million total viewers throughout the month of January. Conan, meanwhile, averaged just 1.1 million viewers. As a result, Stewart managed to upset Conan in several critical demos.

Stewart’s viewers 18-49 came in at 867,000, besting Conan‘s 811,000 and with regard to male viewers 18-34, Stewart also proved the winner, securing 335,000 viewers to Conan‘s 291,000. And although Conan ultimately prevailed in the most coveted late night demo, viewers 18-34 (Conan enjoyed 543,000 viewers to The Daily Show‘s 499,000), The Daily Show ...

Comedy Central Rebrands Itself With New Logo, New Look

After fifteen years of use the current “tower” Comedy Central logo is being put out to pasture. The replacement, a “C” surrounded by a reverse “C” and flanked by the channel’s name (with “Central” flipped) was announced today, and will replace the current logo early next year.

Here’s a little perspective: the last time Comedy Central made a significant branding change, neither The Daily Show nor South Park had premiered on its airwaves. The new logo will accompany a complete overhaul of the channel’s graphics and advertising. The new mark bears an unmistakable likeness to the “©” copyright symbol, used in the United States and around the world to delineate a registered copyright. Neil Patrick Harris Returns Emmys To Glory

After an amazing job hosting the Tony Awards this past June, Neil Patrick Harris was tapped to host The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

How was he?

Yet again, pretty amazing. It seems as if he elevated the entire production to another level.

When the show first started and Neil came out singing, I have to be honest, I really didn’t enjoy it. I thought that while Neil has an amazing voice, the song just wasn’t anything great. Especially when compared to everything else that would happen during the course of the night.

Still, I didn’t give up hope. I love Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) and knew that ultimately he would do a great job. His background in acting, magic and Broadway created this perfect Doogie Howser showman. He didn’t disappoint. His jokes were great. His delivery was ...
