Is Cabin In The Woods Really Getting Pushed Back A Year?

How long have we been waiting for Joss Whedon’s movie, The Cabin in the Woods? It doesn’t matter because we’re going to have to wait another year.

MGM has pushed back the opening of The Cabin in the Woods from February 5th, 2010 to January 14th, 2011 because they’ve decided to convert The Cabin in the Woods to 3-D.

MGM has been noted in saying that the early response to The Cabin in the Woods has been so good that they’ve made the decision to convert the film to 3D since 3D is a great platform for horror flicks.

Of course, if 3D is going to look as good as it could, it usually needs to be applied while they’re filming a project, not at post-production time. I’m not holding my breath on this.

This seems odd to this fervent Joss Whedon fan and I haven’t seen any press on any statement that Joss Whedon might have made in reaction to this schedule change-up yet.

Joss Whedon On Dollhouse, Cabin In The Woods & Goners

Joss Whedon chatted with Sci Fi Wire about a few things, all of which I’ve been looking forward to: Dollhouse, season 2. The Cabin in the Woods. Goners.

Joss said that in the premiere of Dollhouse’s second season, we’ll get to see Echo cycle through a few imprints during an assignment. I can’t say anymore of what I do know without possible SPOILERS. So we’ll leave it at that.

As for being left alone by Fox to do what he wants with Dollhouse? Joss says he’s afraid to be alone (joke) but that the show is finally more of the collaborative effort between creator and network that it’s supposed to be.

On Alexis Denisof coming to Dollhouse:

Oh, didn’t we mention that before? If you remember, they made note of it at Comic-Con. Alexis Denisof is coming on board to play a politician whose looking into Rossum. (The corporation that runs the Dollhouse.)

It will be awesome to see Denisof on screen again… it’s been too long and he’s been too quiet.

On Summer Glau Coming To Dollhouse:

We’ll be seeing Summer somewhere around episode 5, working for the Dollhouse – and she won’t be a killing machine, a bit different from what we’re used to seeing.

On The Cabin In The Woods:

Right now they’re talking about what to show in a trailer for a movie that they’ve been so secretive on the details about.

Should be interesting, considering the posters that have been out give me a feel of snarky, slapping-the-genre-in-the-face kind of feel for the movie… so far.

And the biggest question I’ve had for a long time:

What About Goners?

All Joss said was that he needs Universal to release Goners so it can be free “into the wild.” I’m guessing we have rights issues despite many many people wanting Goners see the light of day.

I’ve been hovering. Very quietly, but hovering over the entire Internet… Every day, waiting for a constructive peep about Goners. A day doesn’t go by when I look for any tidbit of news. Sigh.

Joss wrote this fantasy thriller spec script that treads on a similar turf that Buffy and Angel did. Unfortunately, Universal Pictures paid a 7 figure sum for the rights. I’m not sure we’re going to be seeing the rights run free anytime soon for that kind of money.

In this weeks Mid Week Movie News Wrap Up features:

The Ghost just got very curious; 2012 is a long way away; Josh Whedon has A Cabin In The Woods and Tom and Jerry…well you guess the rest!

1. If you’re looking forward to 2012 - the film, not the year, then you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Sony Pictures have moved the release from July 10 to November 13.

The Roland Emmerich disaster epic stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet and a wealth of others. The studio states that the reason for the change was a crowded market place.

2. Roman Polanski’s forthcoming Pierce Brosnan starrer The Ghost just went from interesting to curious. Tom Wilkinson and 80’s favorite James Belushi have joined the line up that includes Ewan McGregor, Kim Cattrall and Olivia William’s.

The political thriller starts shooting in Berlin on February 4^th.

3. Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins will star in a Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard scripted horror titled The Cabin In The Woods. Not much is known about the movie.

Goddard said:

“It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford. They’re the first proof that though The Cabin in the Woods is a classic horror film, it isn’t one you’ve seen before.”

Funny guy.

4. Well, it had to happen sooner or later! Warner Bros. are developing a live action/CGI movie of Tom and Jerry.

I really can’t bring myself to say more – but if you went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks then you are partially to blame.
