The nominations are out for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards and predictably movies like Avatar, Inglourious Basterds and The Hurt Locker lead the way. Read on to find out the full list

Today marks the day when the nominations for the 36th Annual Saturn Awards are given out. In case you’re not familiar with them, they are given out by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films (they also include TV shows and stage productions) so as a reader of Screen Rant I believe they’re right up your alley .

The awards will be given out on June 24th, so we have over four months to speculate and choose the nominees we’d give the award to. The categories range from the usual Best Film (separated into Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction etc) to Best DVD release and Best DVD Special Edition.

Keeping in line with all of the rest of the major awards, films like Avatar, The Hurt Locker and Inglourious Basterds ...

Click to continue reading Avatar Leads 2010 Saturn Awards Nominations

Short Version: Do yourself a favor and find the original 30 minute Twilight Zone episode of The Box and watch that instead.

Screen Rant reviews The Box

Well this is going to be a short review because I don’t want to spend any more time on this movie than I have to. The Box is based on Button, Button – a very short story written by Richard Matheson that was used for an old episode of the classic TV series The Twilight Zone. It was written and directed by Richard Kelly, the man behind the cult classic Donnie Darko and the poorly received Southland Tales.

BTW, personally I think it’s obvious, but this review does tell you whether or not they push the ...

Click to continue reading The Box Review

Since I’m a huge fan of his cult film Donnie Darko, I’m automatically looking forward to anything writer/director Richard Kelly puts out. And the upcoming Cameron Diaz, James Marsden starring thriller, The Box, is no different.

The Box stars Diaz and Marsden as a married couple in financial trouble who are one day visited by a mysterious, facially scarred stranger (Frank Langella) who makes them a strange and bold offer involving a box: if they push the button on the box they will receive a payment of one million dollars, but the catch is someone, somewhere in the world who they don’t know will die.

It’s a great premise that raises all sorts of moral questions (what would YOU do?), coming to us from the guy who brought us the fantastically bewildering Donnie Darko, and the totally wacky <a ...

Click to continue reading Six New Clips From ‘The Box’

Somehow we here at Screen Rant managed to miss the trailer for Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly’s newest film, The Box. That’s what sometimes when happens when we’re hard at work trying to stay on top of all this movie news at once! Nonetheless, we thought you, our readers, might have missed it too (if you only visit SR for your movie and TV news, you probably did) and so we have it here for your late viewing pleasure, along with some fresh pics.

Based on the short story “Button, Button,” by Richard Matheson, the plot for The Box is as follows: Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden), a suburban couple with a young child, receive a wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger delivers the message that the box ...

Click to continue reading Trailer & New Pics From Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’

Happy Friday everyone! Today we have gathered the latest posters to come out for this week’s poster round-up.

Screen Rant’s wall this week now includes one-sheets for The Box, Pandorum, Growl, Takers, Red Cliff, The Shrine, District 9 and Michael Jackson’s This is It.

In addition to those, we also have four great character banners for Where the Wild Things Are and and as a bonus, a photo for The Twilight Saga’s New Moon.

Let’s get to it…

To start this week’s set, here’s the brand new French poster for the Cameron Diaz-starrer, The Box. The film is a horror-thriller which also stars the strong talents of James Marsden (X-Men trilogy) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon).

Here’s the official synopsis:

There was an opening video where writer of the original book Maurice Sendack and director Spike Jonze talked about the approach to the film. Sendack is very, very happy with Jonze’ vision of his original story and couldn’t say enough positive things. He said it is true to the spirit of the book and it’s an expansion of the story.

Max Records who plays the young boy in Where the Wild Things Are was the first guest and he was quite charming. They – showed about 5 clips which looked great – very rich and textured and Max is going to steal the film.
