The Box Review

Short Version: Do yourself a favor and find the original 30 minute Twilight Zone episode of The Box and watch that instead.

Screen Rant reviews The Box

Well this is going to be a short review because I don’t want to spend any more time on this movie than I have to. The Box is based on Button, Button – a very short story written by Richard Matheson that was used for an old episode of the classic TV series The Twilight Zone. It was written and directed by Richard Kelly, the man behind the cult classic Donnie Darko and the poorly received Southland Tales.

BTW, personally I think it’s obvious, but this review does tell you whether or not they push the button.

Six New Clips From ‘The Box’

Since I’m a huge fan of his cult film Donnie Darko, I’m automatically looking forward to anything writer/director Richard Kelly puts out. And the upcoming Cameron Diaz, James Marsden starring thriller, The Box, is no different.

The Box stars Diaz and Marsden as a married couple in financial trouble who are one day visited by a mysterious, facially scarred stranger (Frank Langella) who makes them a strange and bold offer involving a box: if they push the button on the box they will receive a payment of one million dollars, but the catch is someone, somewhere in the world who they don’t know will die.

Trailer & New Pics From Richard Kelly’s ‘The Box’

Somehow we here at Screen Rant managed to miss the trailer for Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly’s newest film, The Box. That’s what sometimes when happens when we’re hard at work trying to stay on top of all this movie news at once! Nonetheless, we thought you, our readers, might have missed it too (if you only visit SR for your movie and TV news, you probably did) and so we have it here for your late viewing pleasure, along with some fresh pics.

Based on the short story “Button, Button,” by Richard Matheson, the plot for The Box is as follows: Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur Lewis (James Marsden), a suburban couple with a young child, receive a wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. However, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world.

Warner Bros. Panel – Comic-Con 2009

Warner Bros. Panel – Comic-Con 2009

There was an opening video where writer of the original book Maurice Sendack and director Spike Jonze talked about the approach to the film. Sendack is very, very happy with Jonze’ vision of his original story and couldn’t say enough positive things. He said it is true to the spirit of the book and it’s an expansion of the story.
