With new trailers for 'The Avengers' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man' now online, the question is: Which Marvel superhero movie looks better? You decide!

This week has brought us two big superhero movie trailers, with The Avengers Super Bowl trailer sending fans into frenzy, followed by the new Amazing Spider-Man trailer - which has come out of the gate (literally) swinging, and managed to overcome some of the negative opinion that the reboot was initially facing.

In fact, The Amazing Spider-Man has impressed so much that we’ve begun to hear whispers here and there that the Spider-Man trailer did a better job than The Avengers Super Bowl trailer, and ultimately made the Spider-Man reboot look like the better movie.

We know fightin’ words when we hear them, so we thought we’d open up the debate to you, the readers, and let you hash out which Marvel Superhero film looks like the better bet at ...

Click to continue reading ‘Avengers’ vs. ‘Amazing Spider-Man’: Marvel Movie Trailer Showdown

The full Super Bowl commercial for Marvel's The Avengers has made its way online, revealing brand new footage. Watch it here!

We are a day short of three months until The Avengers opens in theaters, giving fans what they’ve been anticipating since The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man proved Marvel Studios could deliver big-budget, quality epics on their own. For casual moviegoers, there’s not been much to go on thus far, with Marvel having released only one version of The Avengers trailer, a trailer which revealed very little about the film’s story other than the fact it involves all of Marvel Studios’ characters who’ve had their own movie already.

That changes today with Marvel purchasing one of the extremely expensive time slots during the Super Bowl to showcase The Avengers to the world with brand new footage. It paid off with Iron Man back in 2008, will it work again for The Avengers?

For Marvel’s online fanbase, The Avengers director Joss Whedon jumped on Twitter this week along with fan-favorite stars of the series Clark Gregg, Samuel L. ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Avengers’ Super Bowl Commercial [Extended Version]

More character-centric promotional banners for 'The Avengers' have been released, along with a new pic of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and a Hulk action figure.

Marvel is expected to release new material that gets fans pumped (ie. new footage) for The Avengers during the film’s full Super Bowl XLVI TV spot. Such a tasty morsel would be all the more welcome, while comic book aficionados continue to wait for the next full theatrical trailer – and, more importantly, the actual movie, which arrives in theaters exactly three months to the day (of writing this).

However, in the meantime, we have a couple of new Avengers character banners, which we’ve also separated into their individual super-warrior components, for you to view – along with another official still of Tom Hiddleston as Loki from the film, and a pic of the action figure representation of Avenger‘s The Incredible Hulk.

Thanks to some steadfast Avengers fans, the latest character-centric promotional banners for the Joss Whedon-headed comic book adaptation are online. While most of the profile pics included ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Avengers’: New Character Banners, Loki Image & Hulk Toy

The Twitter event is over, but we now have the transcript that details the Q&A session with Whedon and Avengers cast members Samuel L.
Believe it or not, The Avengers will be in theaters around the world in just over three months. Despite the proximity of its release, fans still haven’t seen much from the movie outside of The Avengers trailer which only showcased characters introduced in Marvel Studios’ previous films that set the foundation for the team-up epic.

Director Joss Whedon, joined by fan-favorites Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, took to Twitter today to partake in a half-hour online event, answering questions about The Avengers from fans.

A synergistic marketing campaign for The Avengers is just getting underway, but fans have already been promised sick goods, such as a pristine collectible statuette of Iron Man’s Mark VII armor, toyline versions of iconic S.H.I.E.L.D. transports like the Quinjet – and a snazzy 3D poster that features the eponymous team in battle form.

Today’s bit of Avengers promotion comes in the form of five new images, officially unveiled by Marvel. A chunk of these previously popped up online in scanned form, as they are included in a forthcoming subscribers edition of Empire Magazine – the same one that features Kevin Feige’s provocative comments concerning just who The Avengers‘ secret baddies are – but, fortunately, we now have high-definition, non-bootlegged versions to share.

'Captain America' costar Neal McDonough says that Marvel plans to begin production on a sequel before the end of 2012, with a 2014 release date in mind.

With The Avengers owning 2012 all to itself – along with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 having already staked out the separate halves of 2013 as their own – it’s been assumed that Captain America 2 is the most likely candidate to snag one of the two 2014 release dates that Marvel Studios has already claimed.

According to Captain America costar Neal McDonough, who plays the bowler-capped Dum Dum Dugan, filming on the (currently) director-less sequel is slated to begin before 2012 comes to a close. Such a move would both pave the way for Cap’s next solo venture to reach theaters by 2014 – and, set the stage for production to begin on one of the many other single Marvel character-centric vehicles being developed right now.

With X-Men Origins: Wolverine a little under three weeks from release, we here at Screen Rant thought an overview of all Marvel properties (and possibilities) might be in order. Though the new independent studio is now producing their own films, solely distributed by Paramount Pictures, there are a number of iconic characters still residing at Hollywood’s other major studios.

Now that the film division of Marvel Entertainment exists, we’ve seen questions around the inter-webs about certain properties and copyrights concerning top-tier Marvel characters.
The Avengers had a big day in the blogosphere yesterday with Kevin Feige discussing the film’s mystery bad guys and photos of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, and Black Widow gracing the cover(s) of Empire magazine.

Today, we have part of an interview with Chris Evans from the pages of that magazine, detailing his first day on the set of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.

From the March 2012 issue of Empire, Chris Evans said:

One fringe benefit to having Iron Man featured in a Marvel movie (aside from the obvious advantage of having Robert Downey Jr.’s all-encompassing charisma) is that we get to see yet another new Iron Man armor design on the big screen!

Speculation about who exactly Loki (Tom Hiddleston) recruits to serve as his army in The Avengers has literally been ongoing for years now.

Everything from recurring rumors to images from abandoned video game tie-ins have pointed to the culprits being extraterrestrials that are all-too-familiar to hardcore Marvel comic books fans. Similarly, a previously-unveiled Avengers toyline press release seemingly revealed that another recognizable antagonist could also be making an appearance in the film.

President of Marvel Studios production Kevin Feige recently set the record straight (or did he?) during a talk with Empire Magazine. It goes without saying: if you do not want to be spoiled about who is, and who is NOT going to be teaming up with Loki in The Avengers, STOP READING NOW.

Marvel’s The Avengers is one of the most (and, for many comic book fans, THE most) anticipated titles that will hit theaters in 2012.

That’s not only due to five films’ worth of buildup – plus decades of comic history – but also because the Joss Whedon scripted/directed ensemble adventure should provide a relatively complete answer to one of the big questions hanging over cinema this year: Is it feasible for superhero movies to maintain a shared continuity, much like their illustrated source material, WITHOUT shortchanging certain characters or major storylines in the process?

It’s because of those aforementioned reasons and lingering questions that every little Avengers-related tidbit has been so heavily scrutinized and prompted a good deal of discussion – be it rumors about certain Marvel universe characters who could cameo in the film (like the Asgardians Heimdall and Sif) or a more substantial revelation, such ...

Click to continue reading New ‘Avengers’ Promo Pics and Magazine Covers

The year 2012 is a pivotal one – and not just because of that whole ‘world coming to an end’ business.

Sure, in one sense the movies of 2012 will be a smattering of the usual varieties, in the usual genres, encompassing the usual range of quality. However, within that spectrum of cinematic potential, there are some definite matters of interest amongst hardcore movie geeks that will be addressed or proven within the next calendar year.

We’d like to offer 5 questions we think movie geeks should be keeping in mind as they view their most anticipated films and watch the debates unfold – all while the box office profits get tallied, and the future of the movie biz is once again charted.

Immediately following his win at the 2012 Golden Globes ceremony, ubiquitous fan-favorite Idris Elba was hit up by journalists wanting to know more about his upcoming film schedule, which could possibly include both Marvel’s Thor 2 and The Avengers, as well as the James Bond franchise somewhere down the road (if rumor mongering is anything to go by).

It’s easy to joke about how the teaser trailer for The Avengers makes Joss Whedon’s superhero ensemble look like another Iron Man movie, considering that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) got all the snappy lines and as much, if not more, screen-time than anyone else. Downey can dominate a scene like few others, so there’s legitimate reason to be concerned that he might overshadow his peers in Whedon’s film.

How then do you take Downey’s charisma into account and prevent that from happening? Well, if you’re Whedon, you simply let The Avengers be told from someone else’s perspective.

Here is what Whedon told EW, about his approach to structuring the Avengers‘ narrative:

“I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Avengers’ Will Be Told From Captain America’s Perspective

Jaimie Alexander is an actress on the rise at the moment – thanks in large part to her role as Asgardian warrior Lady Sif in Marvel’s Thor last year. While Alexander has big things on the horizon – such as a starring role in the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger comback vehicle, The Last Stand - comic book fans are likely more interested in her upcoming appearances in Marvel movies like Thor 2 - and of course, this summer’s superhero team-up, The Avengers.

Alexander recently spoke to MTV about both films, and talked a bit about where they might take Sif. On the Thor 2 front: the actress confirmed the news that Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor will be helming the Thor ...

Click to continue reading Jaimie Alexander Talks Sif in ‘Thor 2′ & ‘The Avengers’

New Images from Marvel's 'The Avengers' and Lionsgate's adaptation of 'The Hunger Games' show the films' respective heroes prepare, strategizing, or heading into battle.

There are many different ways to prepare for battle. Some people plan strategy, some do reconnaissance to get the lay of the battlefield, others find a teammate or an ally to stand with – and in some cases, the best strategy is a smart PR campaign. No matter how you do it, when you’re a hero (or heroine) of a blockbuster movie, you need to be ready for the battle ahead – because in the end, that’s what moviegoers pay to see. So you know it’s coming.

Today we have new images from two of our most highly-anticipated 2012 films: Marvel Studios’ The Avengers, and Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Hunger Games.

In The Avengers, we find Marvel’s mightiest movie heroes (Captain America, Thor, Iron, The Hulk and the agents of S.H.I.E.L..D) teaming up to combat the threat of Loki and his yet-unnamed evil cohorts. The Hunger Games, by comparison, takes ...

Click to continue reading New ‘Avengers’ & ‘Hunger Games’ Images: Heroes Prepare For Battle
