This week’s DVDs and Blu-rays are thin in number, but varied in taste. No major blockbusters hit home video this week, but there is one movie and one television show that should easily make their way into collections everywhere.

Look for one of Ryan Reynolds’ most daring performances in the claustrophobic thriller Buried. Meanwhile, Timothy Olyphant starred as one of television’s best new characters, Raylan Givens, in the first season of Justified.

Ben Affleck is the man about Town; Shawn Levy is the Deadliest Warrior; Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion spreads; Sony Pictures is Insidious; Ron Perlman gets ready to Drive; Al Capone goes to Cicero; Harrelson, Foster, Cube, Buscemi, Heche, Nixon, Weaver and Wright visit Rampart; and more.

Box Office

Ben Affleck is back! The Oscar-winning star has topped the box office with The Town. The film, which he directed, starred, and co-wrote, brought in an estimated $23.6 million over the weekend. Affleck has had quite a decade, after his breakout hit Good Will Hunting alongside pal Matt Damon, he went on to star in a string of hits (and misses), headlining quite a few big budget action films. However, his relationship with Jennifer Lopez caused a tabloid frenzy, leading to over-exposure in the media – leading Affleck to shun the limelight in favor of supporting roles in smaller pictures. He made ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: September 19, 2010

Screen Rant’s Sandy Schaefer reviews Takers

Have you ever known a suit-wearing hipster that enjoys boasting loudly about how totally awesome he is and imagines himself to be a trendsetter – when really, there is absolutely nothing original about the way he dresses or how he talks? If that guy were a movie, he would be Takers.

Every cliché plot element, stock character, and bit of visual flair that has ever reared its overused head in an action movie or heist film shows up in Takers, with one exception – no one in the movie gets to throw their head back in despair and scream “NO!” Honestly, it’s kind of disappointing that director John Luessenhop did not go for the gusto and include that one as well.

Sony Screen Gems and Universal have recently announced a few changes-ups in their upcoming release schedules, some are highly anticipated movies while others are ones you may not have heard of. Also, there’s a couple of 3D news pieces in there related to the changed release dates. Read on for all the details.

Boxofficemojo has the listings of all the changed release dates over at Sony Screen Gems (special thanks to Collider for bringing them all together). First off, one of the biggest movies on the list, Underworld 4, has been pushed back from January 21st, 2011 to September 23rd, 2011 and despite previous reports it will NOT be done in 3D (I wonder why they’re pushing it back so far then).
