The nominations have been announced for the 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows than the Oscars and the Emmys.

We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

Even if the Scream Awards tend to honor the “right” movies however, this year’s ...

Click to continue reading 2010 Scream Award Nominations

There's plenty of gore and a few creative kills, but George Romero's latest zombie outing misses the mark on social satire and plot.

Screen Rant’s Rob Frappier Reviews Survival of the Dead

Survival of the Dead, the sixth film in George Romero’s “Dead” franchise, might be the director’s weirdest zombie movie yet. Mixing genres freely, Survival is at times a Western, a traditional splatter flick, and a Looney Tunes cartoon. Unfortunately, the result is a muddled film that lacks Romero’s trademark social satire and delivers few, if any, relatable characters.

Survival of the Dead takes place on the fictional Plum Island where two Irish families have been at war for decades (think Hatfields vs. McCoys, but with brogues). The O’Flynn clan, led by Patrick, believes that zombies should be killed immediately, no questions asked. The Muldoons, led by Seamus, think that Zombies should be kept alive in case a ...

Click to continue reading Survival of the Dead Review

George A. Romero is at it again with his latest offering in zombie horror, Survival of the Dead. Will it be as good as his previous films or will it leave you brain dead?

George A. Romero is greatly considered to be the father of all things zombie related when it comes to movies. Going all the way back to his first masterpiece in zombie horror, Night of the Living Dead, in 1968, Romero has consistently delivered entertaining, although sometimes lackluster, zombie films. Any and all directors, writers or special effects people working on a zombie film will tell you that he is the major, if not only, influence behind their work.

His latest zombie movie attempt is Survival of the Dead and it’s being touted as the next chapter in his “legendary saga” of zombie films: Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead. Does this mean Survival of the Dead could very well be his last zombie film? Some how I doubt the 70 year ...

Click to continue reading Red Band Survival of the Dead Trailer & Image Gallery

Two new clips have appeared online for two upcoming films: Ninja Assassin and Survival of the Dead. Assassin hit theaters before the end of the year, while Survival is supposed to hit sometime this year, so thankfully there’s not that long left to wait until we get to see them. And Screen Rant has the two new clips to wet your appetite for both movies.

NINJA ASSASSIN

This is one of those action movies that looks to fall back and rely on its kick-ass action (fighting) sequences to carry it when other elements may not be as strong (acting, for example). But that’s sometimes okay, if the action is good enough, that is. And going by this clip, as well as the official trailer, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem ...

Click to continue reading New Clips: Ninja Assassin & Survival of the Dead

The Godfather of Zombie Films, George A. Romero

I love zombie movies. It’s a weakness. To me, the worst zombie movies are still better than your run of the mill slasher film. Luckily, Hollywood usually agrees with me, as evidenced by the fact that we’re never more than one year removed from a head-exploding zombie shoot ‘em up. That’s why I’m not worried that George A. Romero’s latest zombie film, Survival of the Dead, hasn’t been picked up for distribution yet. There’s always money to be made in zombie films, and someone is sure to snap it up after it premieres at the Toronto Film Festival next month.

Anyway, Collider recently shared a whole batch of new images from the film. It’s standard zombie fare: tottering dead people, rotting faces, gunfire. ...

Click to continue reading New ‘Survival of the Dead’ Images
