The last week of January proves to be most fruitful for home video fans. Nine quality movies hit DVD and Blu-ray today.

Seven of the nine releases are new and stretch most of the major genres. We are going to stick to the biggest releases of this week, but check out your nearest shelf for a copy of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, Enter The Void and Nowhere Boy. From action comedy to sports drama, every audience will have something to watch on their television this week.

Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw Reviews Stone

Stone is a movie that at first glance appears to be a slow-burn erotic thriller, a la Body Heat. However, once it starts rolling, it quickly becomes apparent that this film is pure arthouse – a meditative look at identity, morality and spirituality in the modern age.

The film stars Robert De Niro as Jack Maybury, a veteran parole officer just a few days short of retirement. One of Jack’s final cases involves a longtime inmate named Stone (Ed Norton), who was convicted nearly a decade prior as an arsonist and accomplice to murder. Stone will be a free man if he can just convince Jack that he is a changed man – so to ensure his chances of release, ...

Click to continue reading ‘Stone’ Review

The Fall 2010 Movie Season is upon us and that means the release of numerous award-hopeful films. A handful of new clips from one of those pics – the prison drama Stone – have made their way online for viewing.

Acclaimed actors Edward Norton and Robert De Niro play the leads in Stone, which was directed by arthouse filmmaker John Curran – who collaborated previously with Norton on the period piece adaptation The Painted Veil – and scripted by Angus McLachlin (Junebug). The moody flick is scheduled for a limited release beginning in October.

Summertime and all that easy living is now done, and unless you’re one of those people who lives where the sun is always shining then the onset of Fall means four things: colder weather, earlier sunsets, heavier clothing and movies galore.

Yes, the summer has all those big blockbusters we’ve been waiting all year to see, but Fall is the time when we actually want to be in the movie theater: when being outdoors is no longer an attractive alternative and the cinema offers many, many, award-worthy films. A few of them even stand the chance of being pretty good.

Of course the Fall movie landscape has been changing pretty radically in the last few years: September is now a “showcase for unique genre films” instead of just a studio dumping ground ; ...

Click to continue reading Screen Rant’s 2010 Fall Movie Preview

Happy Friday everyone! For our first Friday of October 2009, we’ve again gathered the latest posters to come out for this week’s poster round-up.

Screen Rant’s wall this week now includes new one-sheets for The Princess and the Frog, Caprica, The Crazies, The Mechanic, Stone, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Saw VI, The Twilight Saga’s New Moon and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.

In addition to that we have two bonus posters from two major upcoming films that you need to check out! Also, there’s some very creative road sign parody posters of classic films, as well as some older and strange looking posters from Ghana.

Let’s get to it.

To start, here’s another new poster for The Princess and the Frog that looks nearly identical ...

Click to continue reading Poster Friday: New Moon, Caprica, The Crazies & More!

Ben Stiller has no time for Salvation at the box office; George Clooney is a Private Gentleman; Lyndsy Fonseca gets into the Hot Tub Time Machine; Milla Jovovich throws a Stone; Ridley Scott looks for a younger Robin Hood and Kevin Costner makes a western – I’m not kidding.

Box Office

It looks like Ben Stiller is going to stay bankable in family films. Night at the Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian should bank an impressive $70 million over the four day weekend. Does that mean that they’ll inflict a third movie on us? Probably.

Terminator: Salvation will shoot up about $62 million over the long weekend. Not exactly the box office superstar they were hoping it would be.

Angels and Demons and Star Trek should both manage about $28 million over the weekend. Star Trek has blown past Wolverine ...

Click to continue reading Movie News Wrap Up: May 25, 2009
