‘Stargate Universe’ Series Finale Review & Discussion

Stargate Universe concludes its two-season run tonight, marking the end of a television franchise that’s spanned three series and almost 14 years. Is “Gauntlet” a satisfactory conclusion for the series or Stargate as a whole?

“Gauntlet” serves as a conclusion to the drones arc that Stargate Universe has been following for the last few episodes. As the crew of the Destiny tries to resupply, they discover that every gateable world with provisions is occupied by drone command ships.

After a victorious but costly encounter with one of the waiting drone ships, Rush, Eli and Colonel Young conclude that further attempts to resupply will only end in disaster. Eli concocts a solution: place the crew in stasis pods and make a massive subspace jump to the next galaxy on Destiny’s universal route.

Syfy Spring Lineup: SGU Ends, ‘Sanctuary’ Returns & Terminator Reruns

SyFy released their spring programming lineup on to the press today. Highlights include the last half-season of Stargate: Universe, new episodes of Sanctuary, and a complete rerun of both seasons of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Stargate: Universe will air its last ten episodes starting March 7th. The second spin-off of Stargate: SG1, Syfy declined to renew SGU for a third season last December. At the end of the half-season in the fall, the show was down to a mere 1 million views an episode. Much to the dismay of its fans, the end of SGU will leave television without new Stargate franchise episodes for the first time in fourteen years.

SyFy Cancels ‘Stargate Universe’

Two months after SyFy announced that the Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica was coming to an abrupt end, another franchise staple for the network has been given a pink-slip. After much speculation, SyFy announced today that they will not be picking Stargate Universe for a third season.

Fortunately, fans of the series will not have to worry about a sudden disappearance of their favorite show from the television schedule, as SyFy still plans on airing the 10 remaining episodes of the second season. Of course, on what day and in what time-slot those episodes will air is still yet unknown.

The season 1 finale of Stargate Universe left the family we’ve come to know and love aboard the Destiny in a very sticky situation. The Lucian Alliance have invaded the Ancient ship and home to the characters we follow, and now both sides have hostages, causalities and the goal of keeping the Destiny to themselves. To make matters worse, the Destiny sits in a dangerous binary pulsar system which is literally frying the ship and its systems. If those in control can’t manage the shields accordingly, everyone dies.

Stargate Universe Season 2 Will Have Many Awesome Guest Stars

The second season Stargate Universe is set to air September 28th. The latest series in the Stargate franchise will be doing everything it can to treat existing fans of the franchise with something special with the return of some familiar faces from Stargate: Atlantis and it’ll be seeking to bring in new viewers by guest starring loads of popular TV actors from other series.

When SyFy announced that it would be continuing the Stargate saga focusing on more drama than action, fans everywhere were lamenting the decision. They were afraid that the series would stop being filled with lots of action and comedy and become something droll and mundane.

Season 1 of Stargate Universe came to its conclusion on June 11th and its finale left fans eager for more. Stargate Universe (SGU) is the third Stargate television series to air on Syfy, another spin-off from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis before it.

Stargate: Atlantis was known for its cameos and cross-overs with SG-1 and the Stargate Universe series has followed suit with cameos of several main cast members from the original series. Comic-Con 2010 Friday Schedule: Our TV Panel Picks

A new day means Comic-Con is that much closer and, as promised, Friday’s schedule has been released. Much like Thursday’s schedule, it doesn’t disappoint. With over 100 panels being announced, there’s no lack of entertainment. Obviously, you may not be interested in the “Dragons Are Better Than Unicorns” panel (perhaps the best made-up panel – ever!), but I guarantee that more than one will piqué your interest.

Included in Friday’s events are panels for True Blood, Big Bang Theory and Bones. These are going to be the most sought after panels of the day. NBC’s Spin on Stargate Universe Ratings Falls Short

All we ever hear from NBC when it pitches Stargate Universe is how it beat Stargate Atlantis in some fashion. They keep trying to equate Stargate Universe ratings to something spectacular. Sure, the way they spin it, the numbers are great. But let’s take a closer look at a few items from both shows.

When Stargate Universe (SGU) premiered on October 2nd of 2009, Syfy announced its excitement about the viewer numbers. The 2-part SGU premiere produced 2.3 million viewers, which for Syfy on a Friday night, were decent numbers.

The show averaged almost 2.9 million viewers through October and Syfy noted with a press release that 2.9 million viewers was better than the last season of Stargate Atlantis. Or 36% more viewers.

When Dave Howe stepped up to the plate at Sci Fi, took the reigns of the network and started heading them towards their new future, he wanted to expand on the number of markets the network was in, which included the youth market (demographic). Howe was also concerned with replacing their flagship television series, Battlestar Galactica & expanding on Ghost Hunters.

As Syfy rebranded itself, it also took the high road to trying to create improved quality content for the channel. In the fracas of it all, they “repainted” the familiar fun that was Stargate and created Stargate Universe – much to the angst of the core Stargate fans.

Syfy Renews Stargate Universe For a 2nd Season

Knowing how everyone is in love with Stargate Universe, I thought I’d share the news that Syfy has given the green light for a 2nd season of SGU. It’s a 20 episode order… Please, stay calm folks.

Right now SGU is in a very long mid-season break. It won’t return until April, so you have time to recover from the shell-shock you’ve been put through so far!

Screen Rant readers are not alone in their emotional angst about the show – that fact has been evidenced in previous SGU articles we’ve posted. SGU is a controversial issue with fans that have come along for a 15-year ride of Stargate and it has been noted that many aren’t too happy with this dramatic change of pace. (Would that be an understatement?)

Stargate Universe Ratings: The Story Unfolds

When Stargate Universe (SGU) premiered on October 2nd of 2009, it brought in 2.3 million viewers. This included both parts 1 and 2 of the premiere. Part 3 of the premiere episode titled “Air” hit the peak of the ratings ride with just over 2.4 million viewers.

After that, the numbers declined slowly but surely until they bottomed out on November 6th with the episode “Earth” at a paltry 1.6 million viewers.

I believe this decline is a result of the franchise fans slowly but surely giving up on the show because it wasn’t the light-humored and quipping series they were all expecting.

We’ve seen the scathing remarks in various articles here on Screen Rant, where everyone is getting a “hate on” for Stargate Universe. In some of your opinions ...

Stargate Movie News: It Has A Working Title

For most of this year, I’ve been hovering and watching for any news about any Stargate movies. Various articles or snippets around the internet suggested one thing or another.

Back in September, Amanda Tapping mentioned that the Stargate SG-1 movie was approved and could start filming after Stargate Universe is done filming.

Now comes news that the working title for the next Stargate SG-1 movie is called Stargate: Revolution and it includes bringing Jack O’Neill back “in a big way.”

Brad Wright and Carl Binder penned the script and the story in the script takes place in the time between Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: Universe.

The original plans were to shoot the movie this fall but the economy put that off. Now we just need to wait for Universe to stop filming, and if everyone ...

Syfy Has Historic Month Of October Ratings

Syfy had themselves a record-setting month in October.

The 5th season of Ghost Hunters is averaging 3 million viewers.

The much debated Stargate Universe is averaging 2.85 million viewers, and doing much better than the last season of Stargate Atlantis. SGU is currently bringing in 36% more total viewers than SGA, but then again, it’s early in the season, so I’m not holding my breath on any numbers holding up for the entire season.

Destination Truth’s 3rd season is averaging 2.2 million viewers.

Scare Tactics, though only averaging 1.56 million viewers in the Fall 2009 season, it’s up 42% from the 2008 season.

And finally, the surprise statistic for me is that Sanctuary is pulling in an average of 2.4 million viewers.

All of these numbers have added up to Syfy’s most-watched October prime in the history of the network.

Stargate Universe 2nd Episode Ratings Improve

Last Friday’s episode of Stargate Universe, titled “Air,” came into the ratings market pretty strong for the second week in a row. This second episode actually had a 4% increase in viewers over the previous week’s premiere, bringing the total viewers of the new series to around 2.5 million.

This week, these numbers reflected those who watched the show live, and DVR numbers from the same day it aired. If we take these numbers for granted, right now the show is doing well and may very well march right on to a successful premiere season.

But that’s the domestic front…

Internationally, Stargate Universe is plowing along with a strong head of steam… or wormhole power.

Stargate Universe Discussion: ‘Air’ Part 3

This is a short follow up to the second episode of Stargate Universe (SGU). The 2-hour premiere of SGU was counted as 2 episodes. That’s why last night’s (Friday, October 10th) episode, ‘Air’, is noted as part 3.

Without much character development needed in this episode after what was established in the premiere, the story moved forward and I found the pace of this episode a bit easier and more enjoyable to follow.

If people came back to give the show a second chance, I think they will be pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the episode this week and thought it was much more engaging and worth my while.
