With Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace set to be re-released in theaters on February 10, 2012 in 3D, Lucasfilm launched “Darth Maul Me” – a feature that allows you to turn yourself into Darth Maul.

Considering we have a “No Sith Lord” rule at Screen Rant, we decided to see what would happen if 25 popular movies went to the dark side (and/or what would happen if Darth Maul got a hold of a time machine and wanted to trade in his dual lightsaber for a Hollywood career).

*except for the one that is Star Wars (but not the one you think)

**by popular demand, an additional movie was added (you can find it in the comments below)

Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace (and everyone’s favorite Lucas-creation Jar Jar Binks) is set to return to the big screen after just over a decade – this time with a 3D post-conversion. As with any Star Wars release (rerelease, special edition, rererelease, etc), die-hard fans are already polishing their stormtrooper cosplays, shining their lightsaber replicas, and dusting off their Darth Vader helmets in anticipation of midnight screenings and other special events.

To reward fans (and moviegoers alike) for their continued dedication to the series – Lucasfilm is preparing free Star Wars swag and special events to coincide with the film’s 3D rerelease on February 10th.

Like many subjects of discussion and/or debate these days, popular opinion on the subject of George Lucas is staunchly divided. On the one side, there are those who feel that the Star Wars creator jumped the shark (for lack of a better term) over a decade ago, with the release of his oft-criticized Star Wars prequels. On the other hand, are those who feel that Lucas remains a filmmaking visionary who has captured the imaginations of a generation – albeit, a generation that came of age under the impression that computers are largely responsible for the fantastical worlds, characters and action sequences that we see in movies.

But love or hate who he’s become in the last few decades, it’s doubtful that anyone ever thought they would see the day when George Lucas ...

Click to continue reading George Lucas Done With Blockbuster Filmmaking?
No one likes watching their favorite tough guy (or girl) lose their edge as a franchise progresses. Here are 10 badass characters who were eventually neutered in sequels.

Sequels are definitely a mixed bag in terms of quality, but one of their advantages is an audience’s immediate connection and empathy towards a familiar and (hopefully) beloved character. No one really cares what’s inside the Temple of Doom or where the Holy Grail is hidden, they just want to go on another adventure with Indiana Jones.

Our interest and investment in these characters and their worlds often percolates in the years (or sometimes decades) between installments, and the opportunity to revisit them is often greeted with unmatched fervor – which makes it enormously disappointing as you watch a film unfold and realize that while the character on the big screen may look and sound the way you remember, something is… missing.

Characters originally depicted as being total badasses ...

Click to continue reading 10 Badass Characters Neutered by Their Sequels

More than a decade after his death, Darth Maul is making an animated comeback on Star Wars: The Clone Wars – well, half of him anyway.

The last time Star Wars fans saw the devilish, tattooed Sith, he was literally falling apart while plummeting to his supposed demise at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, it would seem the Dark Side of the Force comes with the added benefit of brushing off being cleaved in two like it was a paper cut.

For Maul, his survival is almost as implausible as his popularity – which seems to be based on equal parts love for his design, and disappointment that his sole appearance in the six-film saga ...

Click to continue reading ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ Trailer: Darth Maul Is Not Dead; Returning in 2012

If there’s one inside-joke that resonates among all film geeks, it’s likely the never-ending parade of Star Wars saga tweaks and re-releases - implemented by creator/director George Lucas. As a result, it was hardly a surprise to hear that, shortly after the series released on blu-ray, the entire Star Wars saga would once again be returning to theaters – this time in 3D.

Considering the first 3D installment, Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace is scheduled premier on February 10, 2012, it was only a matter of time before LucasFilms teased fans with a sneak peek at the fan-favorite saga in the third dimension.
In the midst of one of the most talked about Blu-ray releases of all time, we’ve compiled some of our favorite Star Wars Blu-ray parodies into one place for your viewing pleasure. In addition, we’ve even made our very own.

It’s only natural that a slew of parody videos hit the Internet during this polarizing time. Some fans are appalled at the changes George Lucas has made to the saga, while others just want to see one of their favorite franchises on Blu-ray finally.
Why the controversy?
It’s the week every Star Wars fan has been waiting for – or at least complaining about – since news of George Lucas’ latest milking of the legendary saga. But the Skywalker saga is not the only title worth your attention arriving on DVD and Blu-ray this week.

In addition to Star Wars, a number of television shows and some independent films make their way to home video. But Tuesday offers up another blockbuster as Thor comes to DVD and Blu-ray in both 2D and 3D. If that isn’t enough, one of cinema’s most cherished classics, Citizen Kane, hits Blu-ray as well.

John Dykstra has been around for a while.
Jeremy Bulloch, the actor who portrayed the infamous Boba Fett in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, took some time to discuss the fan-favorite character with us. The Star Wars saga finally makes its way to Blu-ray in September and while Bulloch has not seen the Blu-ray edition yet, he is excited to see the franchise continue to adapt to new technology.

With a rare opportunity to talk Star Wars with an original cast member, we jumped right into what makes Boba Fett tick. Recent discussions of a possible Boba Fett spin-off have re-ignited interest in the character whose popularity didn’t die with his memorable fall into the Sarlacc pit.
Earlier today we had the opportunity to speak with Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston (stay tuned for our continued coverage from the interview).

We spoke about some of the challenges inherent in creating a period piece that has futuristic elements, updating a classic character for a modern age, the possibilities for a Captain America 2 and a Johnston-helmed film adaptation of The Winter Soldier, the Bucky Barnes story – and finally, Johnston’s interest in a Boba Fett centered film.

Towards the end of our conversation I asked Johnston if his former boss and mentor, George Lucas, had seen the Captain America. The director gave us this somewhat surprising and thoroughly intriguing response:

The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International is just about here, which means that we (and a few of you readers) need to start plotting our itineraries and map routes that will help navigate the mad halls of the San Diego Convention Center in time to make all of those highly-anticipated panels.

This post will detail the movie-related panels that will held at Comic-Con ’11. You can find schedules for any of the TV-related panels over on our official Comic-Con ’11 Coverage Page.

The panels posted below are ones we’ll be scrambling to attend. Most of them are of course related to movies, but there is always room for some comic-related stuff too – after all, comics and movies are like close cousins these days .

In honor of the closing chapter (for now) of Michael Bay’s Transformers trilogy, we present 20 of our favorite movie robots of all time.

Whether it is an android or autonomous robot, the only rules for this list are that they can speak and they have a dedicated physical form (i.e. they are not a computer program like HAL 9000, KITT or S1m0ne).
With Bad Teacher Cameron Diaz hoped to add to the list of bizarre onscreen teachers we’ve seen over the past few decades. So while Diaz is in Home Room smashing kids’ faces in with rubber balls, we will be in Room 101 with our favorite movie teachers, whose classes we wish we could enroll in next fall.

In honor of Father's Day, Screen Rant shares five fatherhood lessons that we've learned from five famous movie dads.

This Sunday is Father’s Day, a time to recognize the important role that dads play in their children’s lives and in society as a whole.

For me, Father’s Day is particularly special this year, as my wife and I recently welcomed our first child into the world. Needless to say, waking up at 3:00AM to change the diaper of my 8-day-old daughter has given me a new perspective on this special holiday and all of the things it takes to be a good dad.

While this is ...

Click to continue reading Five Father’s Day Lessons from Famous Movie Dads

Regarding the proposed ‘Star Wars’ television series, prequel producer Rick McCallum shared further insight on the technological delay hampering its progress, and how the show plans to take its cue from ‘The Godfather’.

After revealing that the Star Wars television series was sitting on a hefty backlog of scripts earlier in the month, George Lucas proceeded to tell fans that the proposed show would have to wait until technology (once again) caught up to the ambitious vision for his famed universe.

Now, Rick McCallum – producer on Star Wars: Episode I, II & III – gives a little more information on exactly what fans will have to wait to see.

Like news of the prequels more than a decade ago, curiosity has quickly built to a fever pitch after Lucas reignited fans’ interest in the long inactive series. After mentioning that work had not only begun on scripting the Star Wars television show, but that over 50 hours of said script already existed, questions were abound as ...

Click to continue reading Rick McCallum Talks ‘Star Wars’ TV Series, Compares It to ‘The Godfather’

While discussing the legitimacy of up-converting the 'Star Wars' films to 3D, George Lucas let slip information on the long-gestating live action television show of the same name.

George Lucas, proprietor of what is arguably the most famous movie universe of all time, has spoken of his plans to bring Star Wars to television for the better part of four years now – while fans have largely been left waiting. As Lucas addressed the recent 3D conversion of his six-part saga with G4, he also dropped a tidbit regarding the progress of the show and why it has been shelved – at least temporarily.

For anyone even remotely aware of the goings on in Hollywood, we know that talk is cheap and though a live-action Star Wars television show has been promised since 2007, we have yet to see anything materialize. Four years in, and many ...

Click to continue reading George Lucas Has 50 Hours of ‘Star Wars’ TV Scripts Ready and Waiting
