It looked like Walter Hill’s crime thriller St. Vincent had fallen by the wayside when original star Mickey Rourke dropped out of the project – following his Oscar nominated performance in The Wrestler.

Well that’s far from the case, as former James Bond star, Pierce Brosnan, has slipped into the vacated role. St. Vincent is up for grabs at the Cannes Film Festival with shooting starting on July 12th in Detroit.

Billy Bob Thornton, Maria Bello, who starred with Brosnan in Butterfly on A Wheel (or Shattered depending on where you caught it), as well as Giovanni Ribisi have also joined the St. Vincent cast.

According to Variety:

“St. Vincent follows a hitman (Brosnan) who goes undercover as a priest to get close to his target, a gangland traitor (Thornton). The hitman soon discovers that ...

Click to continue reading Pierce Brosnan Joins ‘St. Vincent’

It’s been a quiet week movie news wise, so there isn’t a great deal to report except:

Avatar is still number one at the box office; Mel Gibson is involved in Mad Max 4; Whitaker, Winstone and Li visit St Vincent with Mickey Rourke.

Box Office

James Cameron must be a very happy man. Avatar has now crossed the $300 million marker at the U.S. box office – with $350 million now in the bank. The film now has $1 billion in global ticket sales and even with the budget for the film and marketing being mooted as high as $500 million it has now sailed into the waters marked profit on the map.

Sherlock Holmes was number 2 again with a respectable $38 million gross, giving the ...

Click to continue reading Movie News Wrap Up: January 03, 2010

Yes, we’re a day late this week – blame it on flakey internet connections – moving on…

This week:

Brad Pitt plays Ball; Mangold looks for thrills; does Nottingham have its Marian? Mickey Rourke attaches himself to St Vincent – with an old friend.

Box Office

Audiences were really into He’s Just Not That Into You. The all-star movie featuring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson grossed an impressive $27.5 million showing that female powered movies keep making money at the box office.

Liam Nesson’s Taken continues to impress with a slight 18% drop with a gross of $20 million.

Coraline grossed a solid $16 million showing that stop motion animation isn’t dead. The really good news is that The Pink Panther 2 crashed and burned managing a poor $12 million weekend. Considering that the first movie made $10 million more on its debut – it looks like we may have seen the last ...

Click to continue reading Movie News Wrap Up: February 8th, 2009
