‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Extended Preview Spins an Action-Packed Web

Sony’s Spider-Man franchise reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, is the next big superhero movie on the horizon – and in wake of the record-shattering earnings of The Avengers, it has a lot to prove if it wants to both reverse negative opinion that this do-over is coming too soon, and walk away with a hefty amount of change in pocket.

Luckily for Amazing Spider-Man, the most recent trailer and the viral marketing materials promoting the film have managed to impress some skeptics, while simultaneously re-igniting the base of longtime Spider-Man fans who have expressed excitement over director Marc Webb and star Andrew Garfield seemingly creating an onscreen vision of the Web-slinger that is closer to the source comics than Sam Raimi’s trilogy of films from the early 2000s.

Even as The Avengers is busy obliterating box office records, Sony has been ratcheting up anticipation for its own summer superhero flick, The Amazing Spider-Man. Since the release of a third theatrical trailer for the Spider-Man reboot, additional images and TV spots have flooded the ‘Net – with a four-minute “super preview” scheduled to premiere during tonight’s episode of America’s Got Talent – and rumors that a fourth trailer will be attached to prints of Men in Black III, which opens later this month.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer #3 Teases A Stylish, Dark, ‘Untold Story’

Not about to be outdone by the theatrical release of Marvel’s The Avengers (read our review) – with Warner Bros.’ third Dark Knight Rises trailer tagging along – Sony has gone ahead and unveiled a third (and final?) trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, a controversial revamping of the web-slinger movie franchise.

The latest theatrical promo for Andrew Garfield’s debut as Peter Parker will also be attached to Avengers prints. But even armed with some fantastic 3D effects, plus a potpourri of classic and modernized elements from the comics, can this Spider-Man reboot really go toe-to-toe with this summer’s superhero movie juggernauts?

Judging by this latest trailer: Amazing Spider-Man should at least put up a pretty dang good fight, as far as justifying Sony’s decision to reboot the franchise goes.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Images & Wallpaper Tease a Darker Origin Story

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man is struggling to keep its head above the water right now, what with all the ruckus about Avengers breaking overseas box office records (just ahead of its U.S. debut this week) and the recent premiere of the third Dark Knight Rises trailer.

The Spidey franchise reboot will get an extra push in a few days’ time, when its trailer is released online (and attached to Avengers prints). Meanwhile, a couple of new ASM photos and wallpaper have been released – and yes, they firmly embrace the “darker, grittier” philosophy of the film’s marketing to date.

Both DC Comics and Marvel would have you think that big-budget, blockbuster films like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern and The Avengers are their only attempts to bring popular comic book characters into the live-action arena. They would like everyone to forget the sometimes absurd, ridiculous and often ugly reality: that there were numerous early – and failed – attempts to bring super heroes to both the big and small screens.

Today’s batch of Summer Movie Season 2012 paraphernalia includes images and posters from a somewhat belated threequel (Men in Black III), a retooling of a centuries-old tale (Snow White and the Huntsman), a revamping of a cash-cow comic book movie franchise (The Amazing Spider-Man), Schwarzenegger, Willis and Stallone shooting things up in The Expendables 2 - and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which bucks the sequel/reboot trend by being equal parts both.

New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Viral Images & Video: How to Build a Web-Shooter

With The Avengers finishing its promotional campaign, it’s time for the next superhero movie of summer 2012 to start its hype-building activities – and no, that film is not The Dark Knight Rises. The “middle child” of the summer, Sony’s Spider-Man movie reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, is actually the next comic book movie on the horizon and we already know that we’ll be seeing a new trailer for the film alongside Avengers next week.

Today, however, Sony has ramped up the Amazing Spider-Man viral campaign again, and as always, a few dedicated fans have already cracked the code and rewarded all of us with some new images and a video. Spoiler alert: a lot of the material has to do with the mechanical web-shooters (as opposed to organic ones) that Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) will be using in this new approach to the Spider-Man saga.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Scene Written by ‘Bridesmaids’ Director

Though primarily associated with comedies up until now, Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids, is reportedly lending some of his considerable writing talent to the upcoming superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-man.

According to Vulture, director Marc Webb enlisted Feig to assist with the writing of a high school scene between Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Initially, this may seem like a strange move on the part of Webb, until one considers Feig’s earlier work on the Judd Apatow TV show Freaks and Geeks, which focused largely on the trials and triumphs of a group of high-schoolers.

Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci Rewriting ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′

As ubiquitous as writing/producing pair Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have been in recent years – both in television (Transformers Prime, Hawaii Five-0, Fringe) and Hollywood blockbusters (Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, Star Trek) - the fan-fave scribes have surprisingly never contributed to a superhero movie before. (And no, Cowboys & Aliens doesn’t count.)

That changes today, with the announcement that “Hollywood’s Secret Weapons” (as Forbes calls the duo) have been tapped to rewrite the untitled sequel to this summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man, a.k.a. Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Final ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Posters Embrace a Darker Tone

A few weeks from now a Marvel film (The Avengers) will kick off the summer movie blockbuster season, to be followed up a few weeks later by another Marvel flick in Sony and Columbia Pictures’ reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man. It’s only been five years since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy came to end and before DC Entertainment makes amends for last year’s Green Lantern with this year’s The Dark Knight Rises, we have Marc Webb’s 3D Spidey reboot with star Andrew Garfield as the new face of the franchise.

Over the weekend we saw the film’s Japanese trailer, and there’s been no shortage of set photos and images of Garfield as Peter Parker and in costume as the titular hero or of Rhys Ifans’ as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard. Adding to the media, today we have a pair of new posters for The Amazing Spider-Man.

Today, we have a new Japanese-subtitled Amazing Spider-Man trailer to offer, which includes not-yet-glimpsed scenes and footage, sprinkled amidst all the impressive 3D Spidey-swinging sequences and set pieces featured in previous promos for the film.

What with The Avengers hogging all the attention from comic book/film geeks right now – and The Dark Knight Rises already positioned to take its place in a few weeks – it’s easy to forget that there’s another superhero blockbuster sandwiched between those two flicks, which looks pretty darn good on its own terms: Sony Picture’s 3D reboot of the Spidey movie franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Clip: Peter Parker vs. Doorman

The first official clip from The Amazing Spider-Man has appeared online, and as you might imagine, it doesn’t pull out the “big guns” – that is, offer another sneak peek ofthe impressive 3D set pieces or sequences with Spidey flinging himself around New York (as teased in the extended preview). It instead provides a brief look at a quieter and more light-hearted scene from the Spider-Man reboot.

At the beginning of the second Amazing Spider-Man trailer, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) jokingly tells Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) that he climbed some twenty floors up the fire escape, so as to avoid her “intimidating” doorman – this clip reveals Pete’s encounter with said scary concierge.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ International Trailer: Dark, Epic & Subtitled

A lot of the naysay surrounding Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man reboot was (at least, briefly) silenced, following the premiere of a second official trailer and reports from an extended 3D theatrical preview that suggest this film is not only a worthy new spin on the iconic webslinger’s origins – it just might be an epic enough comic book flick to hold its own against this summer’s other blockbuster heavyweights.

That’s not to say all the Amazing Spider-Man negative buzz has abated; it’s still very much present, as evidenced by the ongoing complaints about Spidey’s renovated suit, the Lizard’s design, etc. All the same, more people are starting to agree: The Avengers looks to have some serious competition, as far as the unofficial contest for the title of “Marvel Superhero Movie of 2012″ ...
