[We first published this article three years ago, but with the recent rumblings of a cameo by a certain superhero in The Avengers, we thought it might be a good time to bring this to your attention once again. - Editor]

With X-Men Origins: Wolverine a little under three weeks from release, we here at Screen Rant thought an overview of all Marvel properties (and possibilities) might be in order. Though the new independent studio is now producing their own films, solely distributed by Paramount Pictures, there are a number of iconic characters still residing at Hollywood’s other major studios.

No Marvel Studios Hall H Presentation at Comic-Con 2011

Comic Book movie fans hoping for a spectacular Hall H lineup at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International might want to start rethinking their game plans right about now.

This year, Hall H – the infamous “main event” room for Comic-Con’s biggest and most anticipated panels – will NOT be hosting some of the biggest comic book movies currently in the works, including Marvel’s The Avengers.

Hero Complex is reporting that Marvel Studios – whose films Captain America and The Avengers are two major projects appealing to the ‘Con crowd – will have zero presence within Hall H’s hallowed walls. Andrew Garfield Talks ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’s’ Long Shoot

Between all the news about Thor, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, and the yet-unreleased Captain America: The First Avenger, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man has seemingly fallen through the cracks – which probably has something to do with the fact that it won’t be released for another year.

The man who will be Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, recently attended the Maui Film Festival alongside young actors like Olivia Wilde, Megan Fox, and Garrett Hudlund, where he received the “Shining Star Award” for his collective acting work. He took some time out to talk about his role in Spider-Man, too.

Latest ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Set Photos: Aunt May, Uncle Ben & Lizard Makeup

So many Amazing Spider-Man set photos, so little time! In the past two weeks, we’ve seen a veritable onslaught of photos from NYC set of the much-anticipated Spider-Man reboot – Spider-Man swinging, The Lizard with a bag over his head, etc. – and today’s no different.

In these latest pics, we get to see even further evidence of Dr. Connors’ (Rhys Ifans) transformation into The Lizard (scaly lizard makeup and all) as well as Sally Fields as the iconic Aunt May. Additionally, Martin Sheen (the man playing Uncle Ben) talked a bit about his role in the film.

Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man seems to be the most widely photographed of the upcoming superhero films.

Nary a week goes by where we don’t get to see Spider-Man swinging around New York City with reckless abandon (crotch-first!) or Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker (hipster glasses and all).

Today, we have yet another batch of candid set pictures depicting Garfield as Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, as well as a set report detailing precisely what is going on in the images.

New ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Set Photos Feature Live-Action Web-Slinging

While debate rages about whether or not Marc Webb’s upcoming reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, is a welcome fresh start for the franchise or an unnecessary rehash, there have been some interesting (promising?) things that have been captured in photos taken on both the LA and NYC sets.

Some of these points of interest and/or debate have been the Spider-Man’s mechanical web-shooters (a departure from the organic shooters in Sam Raimi’s Spidey films), star Andrew Garfield’s look as Peter Parker, and even an early look at The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). Today we add another topic of debate to the Amazing Spider-Man pile with new NYC set photos that further indicate that Spidey’s web-slinging theatrics will only be part CGI in Webb’s film.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Set Photo Reveals Total Peter Parker

We’ve been watching photos from The Amazing Spider-Man set leak online ever since cameras started rolling on director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot a few months back, but now that the production has moved from the west coast over to New York City, photos from the east coast set are popping up.

Today we have a a photo that manages to reveal something slightly new: namely, what star Andrew Garfield will look like in full Peter Parker garb…glasses included.

To reiterate: at this point we’ve seen Garfield both inside his Spider-Man suit and in civilian clothes as Peter Parker, but we’ve never really seen the complete Peter Parker effect until now, and the difference is all in the glasses.

Once upon a time director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire were two of the major players in the Spider-Man franchise. However, earlier this year Sony announced it was giving the franchise the reboot treatment, less than a decade after the series first kicked off in 2002.

Instead of a sequel to Spider-Man 3, we’re getting a completely new version of Spidey on film, with rising star Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) in the role of everyone’s favorite web-slinger and director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) behind the camera.

For moviegoers and comic book fans, the toughest part of seeing a fast-tracked reboot of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise will be seeing an entirely new cast reprise the roles of many characters we’ve come so familiar and fond of.

The title role of Peter Parker aside, the key supporting characters in his life helped define Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies and let them work for mainstream audiences (ignoring Spider-Man 3, that is). Two characters of note who brought the real heart to Spider-Man were of course Aunt May and Uncle Ben, played to perfection by Rosemary Harris and Cliff Robertson respectively. The ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot’s Villain is The Lizard

Somewhere, Dylan Baker is weeping. On Monday, Sony announced that Rhys Ifans had been cast as the villain in their Spider-Man reboot – but they decided not to reveal who exactly he’d be playing. The temptation to sit back and watch as fans speculated over the possibilities probably proved to be too strong.

As it turns out, we didn’t have to wait that long for an answer. The Wrap has confirmed that Ifans will play Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in director Marc Webb‘s 3D reinvention of Spider-Man. While The Lizard was mentioned as a potential adversary back in June, recent rumors suggested that Venom or Electro were candidates as well.

However, there was one particular quote from Webb that seemed to tip the scales in The Lizard’s favor:

Rhys Ifans Cast as Villain in ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot

On the heels of last week’s confirmation that Emma Stone would be portraying Gwen Stacy in director Marc Webb’s forthcoming Spider-Man reboot, Sony has just revealed a similarly surprising but solid casting decision.

According to a studio press release, British actor Rhys Ifans has signed on to play the film’s villain. Ifans received a BAFTA nomination for his breakout performance in Notting Hill and has since appeared in films like The Replacements, Hannibal Rising, and Greenberg.

Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, praises Ifans and reveals what ultimately landed him the role:

The upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man franchise will feature two female leads in both Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, and we know that Jane will not be the love interest for the star of the film. While there have been several actresses listed as top candidates for these roles, it was reported on Saturday that the role of Mary Jane would be officially offered out very soon, with expectation that it would be Emma Stone.

As it turns out, Emma Stone did receive and offer sheet and will be playing one of the female leads in Spider-Man, but she won’t be playing Mary Jane. Against expectations, we are surprised to announce that Emma Stone is now the new Gwen Stacy!

Perhaps even more surprising than Sony choosing to reboot their Spider-Man franchise so soon after it was first launched (less than 10 years ago) was the fact that the studio picked an unlikely candidate to play our favorite web-slinging hero: British actor Andrew Garfield.

He was always in contention for the role of the new Peter Parker, but our Screen Rant poll placed Garfield third-to-last (just ahead of Frank Dillane and Alden Ehrenreich), which didn’t exactly hint that he’s the choice of the fans (at least here at Screen Rant).
