‘South Park’ Officially Renewed Through 2016

Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s animated opus, South Park, has received an early pick up from Comedy Central, which will see the series continue until 2016.

Falling on the day of the South Park season 15 finale (which was likely delivered to Comedy Central mere moments before the announcement was made), Comedy Central announced that it has picked up South Park for three additional seasons. The previous contract between Comedy Central and the South Park duo was set to end in 2013.

In a statement, Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless had this to say about the pickup:

Comedy Central Renews ‘South Park’ Through 2013

Good news for South Park fans. Despite the show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, becoming the toast of Broadway, they will be continuing the show that has made them household names – for another two years, anyway.

The renewal may come as a bit of a surprise after Parker and Stone hinted that the show might be close to an end during last month’s mid-season finale ‘You’re Getting Old’ – leading many to speculate that when the series returned in the fall, the remaining episodes could be the show’s last.

Additionally, with the duo’s recent haul of 9 Tony Awards (including Best Musical) for The Book of Mormon, it seemed like South Park would soon be in Parker and Stone’s rearview mirror.

Could ‘South Park’ Season 15 Be The Last?

Comedy Central’s longest-running cartoon returns this month to start its fifteenth season. The first of seven new South Park episodes will air on April 27th.

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are contractually obligated to produce at least one more season for Comedy Central. Fourteen episodes will air in 2011, with the trailing seven likely coming in their usual timeslot this fall. This will bring the total number of South Park episodes to 223.

Despite a rise in adult cartoons and general imitators, South Park has remained at the top of the cable ratings game and is consistently Comedy Central’s most-watched show. While the network has aired dozens of animated shows in its 21-year history, only South Park, Ugly Americans and Futurama (which was picked up after Fox cancelled it) remain.

Comedy Central Rebrands Itself With New Logo, New Look

After fifteen years of use the current “tower” Comedy Central logo is being put out to pasture. The replacement, a “C” surrounded by a reverse “C” and flanked by the channel’s name (with “Central” flipped) was announced today, and will replace the current logo early next year.

Here’s a little perspective: the last time Comedy Central made a significant branding change, neither The Daily Show nor South Park had premiered on its airwaves. The new logo will accompany a complete overhaul of the channel’s graphics and advertising. The new mark bears an unmistakable likeness to the “©” copyright symbol, used in the United States and around the world to delineate a registered copyright. Coincidentally, it also bears a resemblance to the logo for the Federal Communications Commission, an organization that hasn’t exactly seen eye-to-eye with Comedy ...

South Park Dreams About ‘Inception’ with ‘Insheeption’ Episode

If you’re still having trouble understanding Inception – and you think our Inception ending explained article doesn’t have enough firemen, then South Park has you covered.

Last night, the hit animated satire dreamed up an intense, and politically incorrect (of course), take on this summer’s most exciting film with last night’s episode, “Insheeption.”

South Park hasn’t pulled any punches this last year, with the animated series going full-throttle social satire – poking-fun at popular topics including the Tiger Woods scandal, Tron, and Avatar.

“Insheeption” follows Stan who enters counseling in order to help him overcome his “hoarding” addiction. Instead of a normal counseling session, Stan enters Mr. Mackey’s memory. Then, things take a turn for the worse.

From time to time I post a little something about a South Park episode I really enjoy, and which is also relevant to the TV/movie news we cover here at Screen Rant .

Well, last night’s episode, entitled “You Have 0 Friends” did a hilarious job of skewering Facebook (the subject of David Fincher’s upcoming film, The Social Network), as well as tossing in an equally funny nod to the sci-fi cult-classic Tron, which is making a return to the pop culture limelight this winter with Disney’s blockbuster 3D sequel, Tron Legacy.

South Park Takes on Tiger Woods

The 14th season of South Park premieres on Wednesday night – and like many of the season premiers that came before, Trey Parker and Matt Stone will not be pulling any punches.

South Park creator Matt Stone recently spoke about the upcoming premiere, revealing that the Tiger Woods’ sex scandal, along with sexual addiction in general, will be the main topic of conversation:

“It’s such an important issue in America right now — the sex addiction outbreak. We’re all really concerned about him and hope he gets better.”

Given the public lambasting South Park gives public figures, it’s easy to dismiss Stone’s comments as a mere sarcasm but he continues by elaborating on his feelings, identifying that he felt both “fascination and disgust” at Tiger’s apology – emotions many Americans likely felt as well.

South Park Rips on Avatar

By now I would hope most of you have seen the latest episode of South Park, entitled “Dances With Smurfs” (if not, you need to go HERE right away and do so!). The episode follows in the show’s great tradition of intelligent inappropriateness, this time lampooning such things as school shootings (really pushing it there), the current political landscape (hilarious) and, in a twist-turn in the final 1/3, James Cameron’s upcoming sci-fi epic, Avatar.

So what do all those random things have in common? Only the minds behind South Park know for sure…

‘South Park’ Episode Spoofs Watchmen & The Dark Knight

By now it’s a proven statistic: on a long enough timeline, the probability of something you love being ripped a new one by South Park is 100%.

Well, last night it was comic book movie-lovers’ turn to get it, as the newest episode of South Park‘s thirteenth season, “The Coon,” took aim at the recent trend of “dark” comic book films like Watchmen and The Dark Knight and lampooned away.

The result was, of course, pretty funny.

The plot of the episode was pretty simple: in the midst if the economic recession, the town of South Park has become “a bloated whore” of crime and loose morality. The cure? Eric Cartman masquerading at night as”The Coon,” a Racoonesque crime-fighting vigilante keeping South Park’s streets from being overrun by criminal vermin, all while narrating his ...
