FX Signs ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Creator For Seasons 6 & 7

Even though FX renewed Sons of Anarchy for season 5 in October 2011, they had yet to officially sign series creator Kurt Sutter for the upcoming season. Fortunately, not only has FX signed Sutter for a fifth season, but they also have him locked in for season 6 and 7 – if the network chooses to continue the series.

Announcing his new deal for Sons of Anarchy on Twitter, Sutter made sure to include a quip about how much easier it is to deal with FX than AMC: “closed my deal for 3 more years on SOA. no headlines, no pushed schedule, no stealing from paul. thank you FX and 20th for your generosity.”

Sutter’s remarks about “no headlines, no pushed schedule, no stealing…” refers to Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s complicated negotiations ...

In many respects, season 4 of Sons of Anarchy was an attempt to give the series a clean slate. It was a perfect jumping on point for new viewers. Most importantly, however, the sense of starting over allowed creator Kurt Sutter and his writers a chance to redirect the flow of the series back down the path it had begun with the first season.

The premise was simple: after the motorcycle club has paid its collective debt to society, SAMCRO emerges to a world that has moved on without them. It was an idea that thankfully pulled the focus from season 3‘s crazy, baby-stealing Irishmen, trips to Belfast, and Agent Stahl, and helped consolidate the many subplots of lies, double-dealings and revenge. Standing atop the cable television mountain as the current ratings king, it comes as a surprise to no one that FX’s outlaw-biker drama Sons of Anarchy has received an order for season 5 sometime in 2012.

The show’s success comes at around the halfway point in the fourth season, which not only has set the benchmark for the series in terms of ratings, but also gives its network, FX, bragging rights for having the current number one drama on cable.

At present, Sons of Anarchy is drawing around 5.8 million viewers to its Tuesday night airings – which is a 30 percent increase on the audience from season 3. With masterful handling by series creator Kurt Sutter, FX’s hit drama Sons of Anarchy begins its fourth season brilliantly by not only presenting an intriguing, precise direction of focus for its familiar characters, but also overcoming many of television’s contrivances that have served as the downfall of far lesser series.

As the Sons of Anarchy season 4 premiere beings, we jump fourteen months ahead from what transpired in the wonderfully chaotic season 3 finale. The once-incarcerated majority of SAMCRO are released from prison and they journey back to their familiar surroundings of Charming – although, as it soon becomes apparent, familiarity is something that has been all but lost to those returning to the “free” world.

This week on DVD and Blu-ray the television series dominate. Two weak new movie releases are overshadowed by four popular television shows hitting home video. The highlight of the week is a great crop of re-releases on Blu-ray, including four Coen Brothers movies, Top Gun, Good Will Hunting and the 3D Blu-ray for The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The Coen Brothers Collection may be the best title of the week, but technically it’s a lackluster collection. Of course, it depends on your taste in their films, but of the more memorable ones are left out. The Big Lebowski hit Blu-ray just recently, yet it is not in this collection. Instead the collection focuses on their earlier works like Fargo, Miller’s Crossing, Raising Arizona and Blood Simple.

FX Sets Premiere Dates for ‘Sons’, ‘Sunny’, ‘Archer’ & More

Now would be a good time to make sure your DVR has plenty of room. FX has released its fall schedule featuring some of the network’s biggest shows, and showcasing the program many have been waiting for – the premiere of Sons of Anarchy season 4.

After weeks of building anticipation with a Red Hot Chili Pepper infused teaser, the outlaw bikers of SAMCRO will come roaring back for a fourth season, the first week of September.

With production currently underway for Sons of Anarchy season 4, it has been announced that the recent television “phenom” that is David Hasselhoff will be joining the always resourceful SAMCRO this October – one month after the series is set to premiere.

Since Danny Trejo, Rockmond Dunbar and LaMonica Garrett have rounded out the recent additions to Sons of Anarchy, one might assume that all the, well, meatier roles have already been spoken for. Fortunately, that is not the case.

As season 4 rapidly approaches, FX has recruited the ubiquitous Danny Trejo for a multi-episode arc alongside the members of SAMCRO on the biker drama Sons of Anarchy.

Trejo is set to portray former Mexican military commando Romero ‘Romeo’ Parada, who finds himself a new friend in SAMCRO. As with most roles in Sons of Anarchy, the part calls for someone who is capable of intimidating even the toughest of adversaries. 2011 Golden Globe Award Winners

For 68 years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been celebrating their favorites in film and television with the Golden Globe Awards.

Once again, the multifaceted and generally hilarious Ricky Gervais will be serving as host of tonight’s gala. While those in attendance will be filled with anticipation about whether or not they will take home the award in their chosen category, viewers at home will be anxiously waiting to see how far Gervais will push the comedic envelope with his monologue and numerous ad-libs throughout the night.

With 25 separate categories having to fit within tonight’s given time slot, something tells me that Gervais will be moving things along at a swift pace – all while sipping from his iconic glass a beer that always remains not-so-hidden beneath his podium.

It’s time to saddle up as tonight’s season 3 premiere of Sons of Anarchy not only marks the beginning of an all new set of adventures with SAMCRO and company, but also serves as the official start of the 2010 fall television season.

Kicking things off early, FX is setting the return of their hit drama ahead of the bunch, in order to separate themselves from the barrage of over 40 new and returning television series, while also giving Sons of Anarchy fans some resolution to the shocking events that occurred in the season two finale.

The last time we saw the Sons of Anarchy, they had almost beaten Ethan Zobelle (both figuratively and literally), but before finishing him off, SAMCRO had to leave because Jax’s son, Abel, was kidnapped by Cameron Hayes – their IRA connection. ...

Some Bits About Sons Of Anarchy

I came a across a few interesting tidbits about FX’s Sons of Anarchy (SoA) that I thought you’d like to know.

When SoA premiered, it drew in 1.5 million viewers, despite going up against a Sarah Palin speech. These numbers were the highest since Rescue Me premiere for the network.

Clay (Ron Perlman) is based on King Claudius & Jax on Hamlet. It’s not quite Hamlet, but it would seem to be the guiding force of inspiration for the series.

Before Sons of Anarchy, Ron Perlman had never been on a motorcycle before.

We’ve got contract news on Law and Order:SVU, insight into Wentworth Miller’s (Prison Break) next role, and some bits about Sons of Anarchy and Nip/Tuck.

We’ve also got some late-breaking bits we’ve added this afternoon with regards to the creator of My Name Is Earl, and the final season of Lost.

Sons of Anarchy on FX: Just Another Business Club

Sons of Anarchy on FX so far is interesting, but hasn’t compelled me yet to want to jump on board in a fanatic way. I’m not saying it isn’t good. It is. But something is missing that I can’t put my finger on.

What I took away from it was that Sons of Anarchy could very easily fall into an interesting show category of a soap opera about a motorcycle gang who is dealing with the same aspects of life as everyone else, except of course for all the untoward violence that erupts around the club.

The issues the club faces are surprisingly rooted in day-to-day issues every family faces:

The day-to-day family business (Gun running)
The business competitors (Most business competitors don’t blow your house up though)
The family issues within the gang, I mean club
