This week:

It’s a stand-off at the box office as Cowboys & Aliens has a showdown with The Smurfs- but the Cowboys win; Simon Pegg has A Fantastic Fear of Everything; Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright are 21 and Over; Val Kilmer and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt gets interactive; John Cusack and Nic Cage re-team for The Frozen Ground and Antoine Fuqua gets ready to Storm Las Vegas.

A fierce battle was fought at the box office over the weekend, as Cowboys & Aliens faced off against The Smurfs (read our review). Alan Cumming is an actor who is often game to bring an innovative twist to a project — whether it is taking a turn as Glitch in Syfy’s re-visitation to the world of Oz, Tin Man, or reviving the role of the M.C. in Cabaret on Broadway. Cumming has the ability to revitalize an established franchise. The actor is also no stranger to voice-over work, so it comes as little surprise that he was chosen to voice a brand new addition to Smurf village in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Smurfs.

Titans Clash at the box office, Baywatch swims against the cinematic tide; Wolves are the new Vampires; Curtis Hanson is a Maverick; Sofia Vergara is a Smurf and there’s a Hole is the late summer/ early Fall release slate.

Box Office

Clash of the Titans led the box office over the weekend with a massive $62 million gross since its debut on Thursday. The Sam Worthington effects-driven remake saw a solid start, but the road ahead looks rocky considering the bad word of mouth over the film’s 3D effect. They’ll probably still make a sequel though.

Movie News Grab Bag

Hey gang… man, one of the downsides of being a computer geek is getting sucked into the back-end stuff when redesigning a website. I’ve been so busy trying to fine tune thing (thanks for the suggestions!) and trying to fix bugs that I haven’t been doing any movie news coverage.

So here’s my little attempt at a bit of catch up on what’s popped up over the last few days.

- There’s a new muppet movie coming and supposedly it will be faithful to what we’ve come to know and love about the little fellas. – Ain’t It Cool

- Transformers 2 has a title: Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. I can’t wait (yeah, that was sarcasm). – Superhero Hype

- Transporter 3 is on the way starring Jason Statham once again and there’s a French trailer out for it. I think he’s an awesome action star and he’s back ...
