Sin City 2 To Start Production In 2010?

Sin City 2 To Start Production In 2010?

For months now all we’ve really had on the Sin City 2 front is “it’s happening… it’s on its way… it’s coming… at some point!…” Well, maybe not that exactly but you get my point. Back in May this year, we reported that Sin City 2 was finally moving forward, with Rodriguez saying he’d talked to “key players” about the sequel. A couple of months later Alexis Bledel (the blue-eyed girl from the first Sin City) talked about how her character would fit into the sequel considering her character was [SPOILER] presumably murdered by Josh Hartnett’s “The Man” at the end of the first film. [END SPOILER] From what she revealed it leads us to believe it’s going to be – as fellow Screen Rant writer Kofi Outlaw called it – a prequel, midquel and sequel.

However, despite those forward-thinking terms, it all seems like just talk, with no real confirmation of anything…

Sin City 2: Prequel, Midquel AND Sequel???

Alexis Bledel, that blue-eyed badgirl from Sin City recently talked to MTV News about the long, long, awaited sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s cinematic recreation of Frank Miller’s gritty, noir graphic novel series. Bledel didn’t know much, but had heard a rumor that a script for Sin City 2 was floating around and that her character, Becky, was in it.

But wait, Becky got capped at the very end of Sin City…

And so the plot thickens.

Sin City 2 Finally Moving Forward

Movie fans rejoice!

With the recent build-up of projects that Robert Rodriguez has on his plate, coupled with past comments of it not happening anytime soon, it seemed like the possibility of a Sin City 2 was so far away that it wasn’t worth thinking about. And yet, in a recent interview with IGN, Rodriguez revealed quite the opposite: He’s already talking to some key players about the sequel.

Jolie In Talks For Sin City 2 Again?

Days after The Weinstein Company released a statement saying that they still owned the rights to Sin City 2 comes news from Moviehole that negotiations have started up again with Angelina Jolie to star as Ava in the ”A Dame To Kill For” segment of the movie.

Moviehole is quoting a “rather high profile producer friend” who says that Jolie is in “serious talks” for the sequel. Jolie’s name has been mentioned in conjunction with the role since the release of the first film and many believed that she had already met with Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. However, things went quiet as the sequel languished at the bottom of Rodriguez’s to-do list and the matter was forgotten.

Robert Rodriguez’ Shorts & Sin City 2 – Updated

Robert Rodriguez’ Shorts & Sin City 2 – Updated

Screen Rant usually likes to mull over movie news so that what we publish is accurate (or close to it).

Well we once again discovered the benefits of patience.

Yesterday IESB ran a story stating that the cash strapped Weinstein Company had let the rights to a Sin City sequel lapse and that the film would be produced by Robert Rodriguez’ Trouble Maker studios – but financed by a private equity group. However, someone at the Weinstein Company got wind of the story and said “Hold on a minute – that’s not true!” Weinstein Lawyer Bert Fields issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly saying:

“TWC’s rights to produce sequels to Sin City remain intact as they always have been. Any suggestion to the contrary is complete hogwash.”

So who is right? The fist-shaking laywer or the movie site’s source? Your guess is as good as ours. [UPDATE: It turns out our friends at IESB were right and the lawyer was just doing what lawyers do: lie.]

Has Watchmen Killed ‘Comic Book Movies?’

Has Watchmen Killed ‘Comic Book Movies?’

Well the totals are in, and Watchmen is nowhere near to being the box office smash many of us expected it to be.

After a solid $55 million opening weekend, Watchmen suffered a 67% second week drop-off, earning just $18 million for a total two-week domestic gross of $86 million (approx $112 million worldwide). Those earnings are far short of Watchmen’s reported $120 million budget, not to mention the astronomical cost of a marketing campaign so intense it seemed like Rorschach was making a run for The White House.

Now that Watchmen is in real danger of being a box office flop, it’s time to ask the hard question: has Watchmen’s underperformance killed “comic book movies?”

Rosario Dawson Talks ‘Sin City 2′

To say that a sequel to the brilliantly fun and visually stunning Sin City is hotly anticipated is an understatement, indeed. But it’s been four years since the first and some of us are getting anxious about whether or not we will actually see another one anytime soon.

Well appears that it is still in the development stages as in an interview, star of the first film Rosario Dawson gave us a little bit (and I’m sorry to say “little” is the correct description) about the progress of Sin City 2:
