Halloween means different things to different people. First and foremost, it’s about dressing up in ways you’d never dress normally – in ways your imagination can barely grasp. It’s about trick-or-treating, Pagan-style. It’s about eating potentially poisonous candies that strangers just give to you for free. Or, if you’re too old for all that, it’s about buying whole bags at the grocery store and eating them under your bed where no one can see you.

Halloween is about the crispness of the moist, autumn air counter-balanced by the way-too-hot apple cider with just a hint of cinnamon. It’s about the smell of Fall, of late October – sort of like a cross between pumpkin bread and burning leaves. It’s about playing cruel tricks on timid little children, scaring the dickens out of ...

Click to continue reading 9 Videogames, TV Shows & Movies To Get You In the Halloween Spirit

Christophe Gans’ 2006 adaptation of the popular video game series Silent Hill may not have been a perfect film, but it did an incredibly admirable job of translating the spirit of its source material to the big screen. It also earned enough money to warrant interest in a follow-up and now writer/director Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) will take audiences back to the titular town in his upcoming sequel – Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

When production began just under a month ago, it was revealed that Adelaide Clemens (Mad Max: Fury Road) had landed the lead role of Heather Mason and that Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) would co-star as Vincent. The following week, we learned that Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, and Deborah Kara Unger were also on board ...

Click to continue reading Carrie-Anne Moss & Malcolm McDowell Join ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3D’

Last week, up-and-comers Adelaide Clemens (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) were announced as the leads in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D – the long-gestating follow-up to Christophe Gans’ 2006 adaptation of Konami’s popular video game series.

Although the original Silent Hill received mixed reception from critics, many fans praised how meticulously Gans had translated the atmosphere of the games onto the big screen. There was talk that he might reunite with screenwriter Roger Avary for a sequel, but those plans never materialized and the project languished in development hell for several years.

Back in November, Silent Hill 2 was given a new lease on life when Michael J.
[Update: Silent Hill: Revelation WILL be a direct sequel - the original cast is returning. Details Shortly.]

Davis Films put out a press release that names two rising young stars as the leads in the upcoming Silent Hill sequel, aptly titled Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, which is being directed by Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane).

Adelaide Clemens (Wolverine) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) will be headlining Silent Hill 2, with Clemens playing the protagonist of the film. No specific word on who Harington is playing, though he too is being described as a ‘headliner’ of the film.

For those unfamiliar, Silent Hill was a 2006 movie based off the popular survival horror video game franchise.
Director Michael J. Bassett confirms his involvement with 'Silent Hill 3D: Revelation' and explains how the sequel will be both similar to, and different from, its predecessor.

Last week it was confirmed that the long-gestating Silent Hill sequel – now titled Silent Hill 3D: Revelation – was finally moving forward and that Solomon Kane director Michael J. Bassett would be taking the reins.

It was also revealed that the film’s main character would be Heather Mason, the protagonist of the Silent Hill 3 video game. While a direct adaptation of that particular entry into Konami’s successful survival horror franchise is unlikely, the premise of Silent Hill 3D: Revelation is fairly similar: after being plagued with nightmares, a young woman is drawn to the eponymous town to uncover the truth about her father.

Although Bassett’s involvement was only recently announced, it sounds like he’s been involved with the project for quite some time. He recently took to his blog ...

Click to continue reading ‘Silent Hill 3D: Revelation’ Director Talks About Improving the Sequel

The 2006 film adaptation of Konami’s survival horror video game franchise Silent Hill was dismissed by most critics, but scared up enough of an audience to warrant interest in a sequel. After being stuck in limbo for several years, the project is finally moving forward with a new director, a new format, and a new title – Silent Hill 3D: Revelation.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Michael Bassett will write and direct the Silent Hill sequel, which will be produced by Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody. Bassett’s previous film was the action-fantasy Solomon Kane, which sadly still hasn’t been released here in the states. I’ve heard predominantly good things about it, though – particularly in regards to its imaginative visuals and moody atmosphere.

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. – Albert Einstein

Mr. Einstein could have very well been talking about Hollywood and all of the video game movies turds it has squeezed out in the past 27 years. Some people incorrectly think the wretched Super Mario Brothers kicked off the video game movie trend in 1993 but actually it started way back in 1984 with the thriller Cloak & Dagger, based off the Atari game, starring a young Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Dabney Coleman.

Regardless of which year we start from, there have been dozens of movies made from video games and, although some have come close (Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider), NONE have actually been good.
Until they announced Silent Hill 2 recently, I had no idea how many Screen Rant readers were actually fans of Christophe Gans’ 2006 movie adaptation. But now that I know, I’m keeping you guys in the loop about the sequel is developing.

Earlier (this week) I reported that Silent Hill 2 could possibly start filming next year. In that report came word that returning writer Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction) has some ‘crazy, cool stuff’ already worked into the script. That all sounded good, but questions like would Gans be returning, would star Radha Mitchell be returning, would the movie be a direct sequel, etc., still needed answering.

Well, thanks to producer Don Carmody and Shock Til Ya Drop, some of those questions are indeed starting to get answered. For those who don’t know, Roger Avary was ...

Click to continue reading Silent Hill 2 Details Starting To Emerge

Shock Til Ya Drop was recently on the set of the upcoming horror/action franchise sequel, Resident Evil: Afterlife, where they caught up with makeup effects designer Paul Jones, the guy responsible for creating the hellish world of the 2006 Silent Hill movie and will be (presumably) returning for the recently confirmed sequel, Silent Hill 2.

Jones had some nice (if not brief) tidbits to share about what Silent Hill 2 is shaping up to be, along with the mention that filming on the sequel could begin sometime next year. As somebody who’s a fan of both the Silent Hill video game series AND the movie adaptation, color me excited. Here’s what Jones had to say on the subject of Silent Hill 2:

The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that a sequel to the 2006 video game adaptation, Silent Hill is in the works. Writer Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida will be returning for Silent Hill 2, though no director has been named yet. Hadida’s Davis Films will start production on Silent Hill 2 once production is completed on Resident Evil 4, which is gearing up to start shooting as we speak.

Silent Hill is of course the story of a reclusive town where ash rains from the sky all day, and at the sound of an alarm Hell takes over the town and grotesque demons start appearing everywhere. The video game series (which was first released in 1999) has been so creepy/scary that I’ve had to turn on the lights for safety while playing it. The movie had ...

Click to continue reading Silent Hill 2 On The Way
