Shutter Island Third Trailer

Back in June of this year the first trailer appeared for Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese’s latest collaboration with favorite leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. It was creepy-as-hell and solidified it on my list of most anticipated movies of 2009. Unfortunately a couple of months later news hit that Paramount had moved the release date from October 2nd this year to February 19th next year. As a movie fan – as well as a follower of daily movie news – that ranks right up there with the most annoying things to happen.

‘Ghost In The Shell’ Snags ‘Shutter Island’ Screenwriter [Updated]

‘Ghost In The Shell’ Snags ‘Shutter Island’ Screenwriter [Updated]

Update: Laeta Kalogridis is female NOT male. I apologize. Changes have been noted.

Dreamworks’ adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s manga/anime classic Ghost In The Shell has snagged Laeta Kalogridis to adapt Shirow’s futuristic vision into a live-action 3D blockbuster. Kalogridis has penned such past gems as Oliver Stone’s Alexander and the American alt-history epic, Pathfinder, but is poised to be a breakout name for HER work adapting author Dennis Lehane’s novel Shutter Island into a Martin Scorsese film, which will be hitting theaters early next year.

Jamie Moss (Street Kings) had been tapped to draft an earlier version of Ghost In The Shell – guess his take on the story didn’t go over so well with the studio…

Shutter Island Theatrical Trailer

Shutter Island Theatrical Trailer

A second trailer for Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of Shutter Island hit the Web a few days ago and we thought you’d like a (belated) look at it. If you haven’t heard, the film is adapted from the Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone) novel and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels, who travels to the titular island in Massachusetts’ Outer Harbor to help track down a murderous patient who has escaped from the island’s hospital for the criminally insane.

Of course, once Daniels and his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) arrive on Shutter Island the proverbial you-know-what hits the proverbial fan, and it is quickly revealed that nothing – the island, the hospital, the missing patient or even the Marshalls themselves – is what it seems.

Teaser Poster For Scorsese’s ‘Shutter Island’

Teaser Poster For Scorsese’s ‘Shutter Island’

For those of you who may not know, Martin Scorsese’s next film (currently in post-production) is Shutter Island. The movie is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane (author of Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone). It’s about a US Marshall and his new partner who are sent to “investigate the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a prison for the criminally insane, and is presumed to be hiding out on the remote Shutter Island.”

Adding to that great plot, Shutter Island has a very impressive cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Kingsley, Mark Ruffalo, Emily Mortimer, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams and Jackie Earle Haley, and of course having Scorsese behind the camera, this is really shaping up to be another winner from the legendary director.
