Inception Leads 2011 Saturn Award Nominees

As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

2011 People’s Choice Awards Winners

For 37 years, the People’s Choice Awards has been celebrating the fan favorites in film, television and music. In preparation for tonight’s awards ceremony, over 35 million votes were cast by the American public in hopes that their favorite film, television series, actor or musician will take home this coveted award.

For the second year in a row, the multifaceted Queen Latifah will be serving as host of this fanatical gala. With over 43 separate categories having to fit within the given timeslot, something tells me that Queen Latifah is going to be forced to move things along at a swift pace in order to fit each category within the 2-hour time-limit.

2011 Razzies Shortlist: The Worst Films and Performances of 2010

As the ball dropped in Times Square and people everywhere sang inebriated versions of “Auld Lang Syne”, it marked the end of a lukewarm movie year. With 557 movies released in 2010, some of them were truly good and others were excruciatingly bad. People could argue all day about what makes a movie truly bad, but thankfully we have the 31^st annual Golden Raspberry Awards to help us sort the chaff from the wheat.

Although the official list of nominees won’t release until January 24^th, the L.A. Times Award Tracker blog has released the shortlist of nominees for the coveted “Razzie” or Golden Raspberry Award.

The categories this year are pretty much the same as last year – Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Supporting Actor/Actress, Worst ...

DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: December 7th, 2010

As the summer hits continue to make their way onto DVD and Blu-ray, this week’s releases present some of the biggest movies of 2010. Over $2.5 billion of this year’s worldwide box office is accounted for in the three movies hitting shelves this week – Inception, Twilight: Eclipse and Shrek Forever After.

Ironically, the three Blu-ray re-releases this week were low-budget films that gained traction with dedicated fans. Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation actually made $119 million on only a $4 million budget. Technically, that makes it the most profitable movie of the week.

Sony has also revamped a collection of previously released Blu-rays. Essentially, this is a mass re-release of BDs currently out of circulation and many include extra special features. The films include Closer, The Big Hit, About Last Night…, The Deep, St. Elmo’s ...

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Earns 15 Annie Award Noms in Good Year for Animation

Dreamworks’ wonderfully funny and entertaining animated film How to Train Your Dragon was regarded as one of the best movies of the year. Here at Screen Rant, our own Vic Holtreman gave it a near-perfect 4.5/5 star review. Given the near-universal praise for the movie, it’s not surprising to learn that How to Train Your Dragon led all other animated movies with an impressive 15 nominations at this year’s annual Annie Awards.

How to Train Your Dragon will compete with Despicable Me, Tangled, Toy Story 3, and The Illusionist for Best Animated Feature. Of those films, Despicable Me received seven total nominations, The Illusionist received five, Toy Story received three, and Tangled received two nominations. DreamWorks’ Megamind and Shrek Forever After earned six and five nominations, respectively.

Movie News Wrap Up: June 7, 2010

Box Office

Everyone thought that Shrek 4 would underperform. Mediocre reviews and audience fatigue seemed to indicate that the animated film wouldn’t be a huge hit. Sometimes everyone can be wrong. Shrek brought in another $25 million over the weekend, giving it a total box office take of $184 million. Next weekend it should cross $200 million. It’s still not as successful as the other films in the series, but considering that this is the fourth film in the franchise, it’s doing okay.

The opening for Get Him To The Greek was far from a tragedy after grossing $17.4 million on its debut weekend. The Forgetting Sarah Marshall spin-off starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand should end its run with about $60 million if all goes well.

The box office sees green as Shrek attacks the top spot; Alfred Molina joins Taylor Lautner in Abduction; Juno Temple has signed onto The Three Musketeers; Cinderella wears Prada; Gerard Butler is the latest star to be Born; MTV goes howling mad for Teen Wolf; plus lots more!Shrek: Forever After led the box office charge over the weekend. The 3D ogre tale managed to scrape in roughly $72 million worth of green. While the film’s opening isn’t a disaster, it is a lacklustre debut for the pricey animated film and it’ll need good legs and strong international grosses to turn a profit. It looks like this really might be forever after for Shrek!

Eddie Murphy has had one of the most fascinating careers of any actor in Hollywood. Since becoming one of the biggest and most bankable actors in the world back in the 1980s, his films have seen a steady drop in quality up until present day.

New ‘Shrek 4′ Trailer & Pied Piper Featurette

Dreamwork’s latest Shrek sequel, the aptly named Shrek: Forever After, will hit regular and IMAX theaters in just over two weeks.

In the meantime, we have a new character featurette and theatrical trailer for the latest venture with the big, green ogre voiced by Mike Myers.

The first clip concerns the Pied Piper – the famous rat-charmer himself. Here, the devious Rumpelstiltskin (who tricks Shrek into an agreement that crowns the dwarfish scoundrel ruler of Far, Far Away), hires the Piper as a bounty hunter – to track down our titular hero and his fellow ogres.

Mike Myers on ‘Austin Powers 4′; Early Reviews of ‘Shrek 4′

While attending the Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere of his new 3D animated sequel, Shrek Forever After, comedian Mike Myers let out a few details concerning his long-in-development sequel, Austin Powers 4.

Additionally, the early word is in on the fourth Shrek and it’s, well, what you’d probably expect.

Today we have a nice assortment of movie clips and images from four upcoming films, all of which look pretty good – Predators, Shrek Forever After, The Losers and Jonah Hex. We could have put all these items in their own separate posts, but honestly, it’s just so much easier for you to find them all in one place.

First up is a couple of featurettes from the third installment of the Predators franchise. If you count AvP and AvP: Requiem then technically it’s the fifth installment, but I still say it’s the third. The Predators teaser trailer played at SXSW earlier this year and the full trailer pretty much blew everyone’s anticipation levels off the charts.

New Posters For Shrek 4 & ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’

Thanks to the folks at Latino Review and Coming Soon, we now have the new posters for this summer’s animated sequel Shrek Forever After and the latest Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean films) effects extravaganza, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, for you to check out.

First we have what looks to be the final poster for Shrek Forever After, the fourth (and supposedly last) Shrek film, which finds the famous Ogre (voiced by Mike Meyers) trapped in an alternate reality after he makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin that — shockingly — doesn’t go the way he planned.

Okay — can Dreamworks please just stick with one title already? It’s either Shrek Forever After 3D or Shrek: The Final Chapter 3D. Of course, they could just call it Shrek: Check Out The Same Jokes ...

DreamWorks Sorry For Risque Shrek 4 Images

The Shrek series has always been known for combining family humor with more adult-oriented jokes, but DreamWorks may have taken it too far this time. In a recent attempt to promote Shrek Forever After, the studio gave the okay to have several of the film’s characters featured in a photo spread for the men’s fashion magazine VMan. Now, the resulting racy images have studio insiders backpedaling.

According to Fox News, a number of insiders at DreamWorks and Paramount have expressed regret over the images, with one Paramount rep remarking, “In hindsight the studio would have declined to have the characters participate.” Are the pictures really all that bad? A handful of new posters have released recently and for your enjoyment, we’re sharing them with you. The True Blood: Season 3 one is pretty darn cool, but this motion poster for The Other Guys is absolutely amazing. I’ve never laughed so hard at a poster, even if a moving one is kind of cheating. I am immediately much more interested in seeing it.

Following the initial teaser trailer we now have a full trailer for the fourth film in the popular Shrek franchise, entitled Shrek Forever After. The name and the poster suggest this will be the final installment but tell that to the studio execs once this sequel makes another gazillion dollars at the box office…

Shrek Forever After Teaser Trailer

The first trailer for Shrek Forever After, the fourth installment in the Shrek franchise, has popped up online. We’ll direct you there in a second.

If you haven’t yet heard what the film is about, here’s quick rundown:

Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking deal-maker, Rumpelstiltskin (see pic above) and finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
