We’re now into awards season once more (time flies, doesn’t it?), with the Emmys having come and gone already. Now we have the annual 2010 Scream Awards which celebrates the more fan-friendly type of movies and TV shows that the Oscars and the Emmys might not honor. And the great thing is YOU get to vote for the winners!

Last year they honored such fan-favorites as Star Trek, Watchmen and Fringe with nominations, which I’m sure pleased many of you. Even if they still nominate some questionable movies, there’s no doubting that for the most part, the Scream Awards are a lot more in line with the majority of the movie going audience who pay to see movies purely to be entertained.

Even if the Scream Awards tend to honor the “right” movies however, this ...

Click to continue reading 2010 Scream Award Nominations

It’s time again for us to round up all those movie posters that have hit The Web recently. This Friday’s round-up includes posters for some of the most highly anticipated and discussed movies on the horizon:

Resident Evil: Afterlife, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D, Legend of the Guardians, Buried, Monsters, The Town, The Last Exorcism, Due Date, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Yogi Bear (okay maybe that last one isn’t that anticipated…).

We also have a limited edition art poster for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which opens today, and a poster for the re-release of Avatar.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

First up we have a bunch of posters and banners for Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the successful video game zombie franchise.
Are you a fan of the Where’s Waldo scavenger hunt books and the unrelenting torture scenes of the Saw franchise?

Yes? Then you’re in luck.

Lions Gate Films has put together a Saw VI inspired scavenger hunt cartoon as part of the promotional campaign for the film’s DVD release. The picture was created by Daniel David Freeman and titled “Where’s Billy?” – after Jigsaw’s signature puppet who’s hidden amongst a mishmash of bloodied characters from both the Waldo and Saw franchises.

Ironically, finding Billy isn’t quite as torturous as looking for Waldo was back in the eighties. Check out the photo and see if you can locate him:

If you’ve been active around here in the last six months, you’ll probably remember the huge buzz and eventual success of what is now the most profitable indie movie of all time, Paranormal Activity. Oren Peli’s simple, no frills ghost story creeped enough audiences out to push past the $150 million mark at the box office, on a minuscule movie budget of $15,000. Now I know there were many who thought the movie wasn’t scary at all, but personally, it creeped me the hell out and I write for a movie news site so imagine how hard it was for me NOT to let the hype affect me!

A couple of months ago we heard word that Paramount is planning Paranormal Activity 2, when Viacom (the company that owns paramount) CEO Philippe Dauman brought it up at an ...

Click to continue reading Saw VI Director To Helm Paranormal Activity 2

Drug addicts, doctors, renegade police offices and anyone else that may need “to help themselves” should stay on edge as it looks like the Jigsaw Killer will be on the lamb for the foreseeable future as Lionsgate recently stated that they will continue making the Rube Goldberg horror series of Saw movies “as long as we make money.”

Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns spoke those exact words at the Median and Money conference in New York on Thursday. To further prove his point, the confident Burns states that Dirty Dancing, 20 years after its debut, still sells an average of 2,000 DVDs per day.

While the most recent Saw VI didn’t perform as well as its predecessors, most people are attributing its dramatic drop off to the phenomenon of Paranormal Activity. I know most people say that the Saw ...

Click to continue reading Lionsgate To Continue Saw Franchise

This week:
Over the weekend the box office Saw some Paranormal Activity; Carl Ellsworth was hired by Paramount but he wants C.O.D (Cash On Delivery); True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is Griff the Invisible; Derek Mears gears up for Predators and Laura Dern Meets Stiller and family.

Wow. It looks like the Saw franchise has finally come to a grisly end. The sixth film in the horror franchise opened with 50% less than what was predicted, earning a not-so-good $14.7 million. The film probably only cost about $15 million to make, but this poor gross means that it’ll have to have some serious overseas takings to make new installments viable.

The flipside to Saw’s demise was the $22 million that Paranormal Activity took over the weekend – from a thousand less screens than Saw!

Happy Friday everyone! For our first Friday of October 2009, we’ve again gathered the latest posters to come out for this week’s poster round-up.

Screen Rant’s wall this week now includes new one-sheets for The Princess and the Frog, Caprica, The Crazies, The Mechanic, Stone, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, Saw VI, The Twilight Saga’s New Moon and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant.

In addition to that we have two bonus posters from two major upcoming films that you need to check out! Also, there’s some very creative road sign parody posters of classic films, as well as some older and strange looking posters from Ghana.

Let’s get to it.

Today we bring you two new images from the horror film that just won’t die (zing!). No, it’s not Chucky, Jason, Freddy or Michael Myers – I’m talking about Jigsaw and the weirdly popular Saw series. I could go on and on talking about the synopsis of this movie but are there really people that care about that? It’s the same tired concept that has netted the Lionsgate Film studios over $340 million dollars for five films that have a combined budget of roughly $36 million. The chance of them straying off that path for the sixth film is slim.

For those that care, Saw VI brings the return of the Tobin Bell as the (now deceased) mastermind Jigsaw and Shawnee Smith as his protégé Amanda Young (both involved in flashback sequences), Costas Mandylor as ...

Click to continue reading New Stills from Saw VI

The approach of Fall brings about many seasonal treats: Pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin beer, pumpkin soap, pumpkin lotion… pretty much anything pumpkin. Luckily (the veritable pumpkin buffet aside), it also means that, for the sixth year in a row, we will receive the newest installment in the Saw franchise, Saw VI. In the usual “Saw” fashion, things are being kicked off with the return of their highly successful annual Saw Blood Drive.

Since the original Saw movie in 2004, Lionsgate has teamed up with the American Red Cross for a special ad campaign associated with the popular horror franchise. Over the past six years, Saw film-goers have donated over 80,000 pints of blood which has helped to save over 350,000 lives.

As in previous years, the ad campaign is being led by the infamous Saw ...

Click to continue reading Saw VI: Halloween Blood Drive Nurse Photo Shoot

Today we have a bunch of new posters for you that have appeared online over the lat few days or so. They include posters for Saw VI and a new George Clooney film, Up in the Air, a couple of special ones for Inglourious Basterds, and a couple foreign language ones for [REC] 2 and Shutter Island. Check them all out below.

First up is the new poster for the upcoming next installment in the successful torture-porn horror Saw franchise, Saw VI. I’m not going to waste much time in saying this franchise lost what made it interesting long ago.

However, what I must admit is they sure do know how to design cool-looking posters for these movies.
Question: What do the movies Saw VI, Extract, Gamer, A Serious Man, Whiteout, The Hole, and Law Abiding Citizen have in common? They all have new posters that Screen Rant has for your viewing pleasure, that’s what!

First up is Saw VI, yet another installment in the surprisingly highly successful torture-porn horror franchise, Saw. Maybe it’s the fact that they kicked off this kind of horror movie trend, maybe it’s the marketing, who knows, but for some reason people keep going to see these movies. They lost any intellectual stimulation for the audience a few movies ago, and it’s now all really about how to cram as much gorey traps into the runtime as possible. Saw VI looks to be no different.

Due to the baffling fact that the Saw movies keep making money at the box office, it’s no surprise they just keep shoving out making more and more of them. The franchise that kicked off what we now know as 21st century “torture porn” (some say it started decades ago, only in a different shape), Saw will see it’s sixth installment hit theaters this October, and now we learn that the rumors we previously reported are now confirmed: Saw VII has been greenlit and is on the way.

But first we have the first teaser trailer and first clip from Saw VI, which just came online yesterday. I think the Saw movies got past the point of an actual story a few films ago (or is that just me?) and is now, as it has been ...

Click to continue reading Saw VI Teaser & First Clip, Saw VII On The Way

Today we have a trio of new posters that just popped online recently, they include the disaster movie, 2012, the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio psychological thriller, Shutter Island, and the millionth next installment in the Saw franchise, Saw VI. One is pretty boring, one is pretty cool and one is pretty intriguing. Find out which poster match up to which description below.

First up we have Roland Emmerich’s (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) new disaster epic, 2012. Based on the “doomsday prediction” that the world is going to come to an end in the year (you guessed it) 2012, it looks to basically showcase the different cataclysmic disasters that are occurring around the world, presumably focusing on John Cusick’s character (the lead) and his family that we’ve seen in the ...

Click to continue reading New Posters: 2012, Shutter Island And Saw VI

If you’re a sick kind of demented – meaning, you like the Saw franchise – then there is some medicine on the horizon for you, if fates will have it.

Bell said that there are other pieces of the jigsaw puzzle we haven’t seen yet, and from what I can tell, the Saw filmmakers would love to let us in on them. Dudes (and dudettes), would ...

Click to continue reading Saw VI Update: Can You Handle 9 Saws?
