Lionsgate To Continue Saw Franchise

Lionsgate To Continue Saw Franchise

Drug addicts, doctors, renegade police offices and anyone else that may need “to help themselves” should stay on edge as it looks like the Jigsaw Killer will be on the lamb for the foreseeable future as Lionsgate recently stated that they will continue making the Rube Goldberg horror series Saw “as long as we make money.”

Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns spoke those exact words at the Median and Money conference in New York on Thursday. To further prove his point, the confident Burns states that Dirty Dancing, 20 years after its debut, still sells an average of 2,000 DVDs per day.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 26, 2009

This week:
Over the weekend the box office Saw some Paranormal Activity; Carl Ellsworth was hired by Paramount but he wants C.O.D (Cash On Delivery); True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is Griff the Invisible; Derek Mears gears up for Predators and Laura Dern Meets Stiller and family.

Wow. It looks like the Saw franchise has finally come to a grisly end. The sixth film in the horror franchise opened with 50% less than what was predicted, earning a not-so-good $14.7 million. The film probably only cost about $15 million to make, but this poor gross means that it’ll have to have some serious overseas takings to make new installments viable.

New Behind-The-Scenes Footage from ‘Saw VI’

Five Minutes in heaven with the cast and crew of Saw VI.  From us to you by Shock Til You Drop via Coming Soon.  Click here to see their madcap hijinks!  It must be a law that all dudes in this movie have to have a scratchy voice.  Coupled with…. the right… pauses… it has the unmistakable air of bad intentions.  Sadly, it’s not nearly as scary with all those sound and camera guys everywhere.

Since we both know why you watch Saw movies, I’m not gonna bore you with plot details, but I will say that Coming Soon reports that in Saw VI, Jigsaw’s grand scheme will be revealed(!).  Spoiler alert: To make… a gajillion… dollars!!!

New Stills from Saw VI

New Stills from Saw VI

Today we bring you two new images from the horror film that just won’t die (zing!). No, it’s not Chucky, Jason, Freddy or Michael Myers – I’m talking about Jigsaw and the weirdly popular Saw series. I could go on and on talking about the synopsis of this movie but are there really people that care about that? It’s the same tired concept that has netted the Lionsgate Film studios over $340 million dollars for five films that have a combined budget of roughly $36 million. The chance of them straying off that path for the sixth film is slim.

For those that care, Saw VI brings the return of the Tobin Bell as the (now deceased) mastermind Jigsaw and Shawnee Smith as his protégé Amanda Young (both involved in flashback sequences), Costas Mandylor as Detective Hoffman and Betsy Russell as Jill Tuck.  Joining the red shirt cast (read: soon to die) are the relatively unknown faces of Betsy Russell, Peter Outerbridge, Larissa Gomes, Mark Rolston and Tanedra Howard.

Saw VI: Halloween Blood Drive Nurse Photo Shoot

The approach of Fall brings about many seasonal treats: Pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin beer, pumpkin soap, pumpkin lotion… pretty much anything pumpkin. Luckily (the veritable pumpkin buffet aside), it also means that, for the sixth year in a row, we will receive the newest installment in the Saw franchise, Saw VI. In the usual “Saw” fashion, things are being kicked off with the return of their highly successful annual Saw Blood Drive.

Since the original Saw movie in 2004, Lionsgate has teamed up with the American Red Cross for a special ad campaign associated with the popular horror franchise. Over the past six years, Saw film-goers have donated over 80,000 pints of blood which has helped to save over 350,000 lives.

Today we have a bunch of new posters for you that have appeared online over the lat few days or so. They include posters for Saw VI and a new George Clooney film, Up in the Air, a couple of special ones for Inglourious Basterds, and a couple foreign language ones for [REC] 2 and Shutter Island. Check them all out below.

First up is the new poster for the upcoming next installment in the successful torture-porn horror Saw franchise, Saw VI. I’m not going to waste much time in saying this franchise lost what made it interesting long ago.

New Posters: Saw VI, Extract, Gamer & Lots More

Question: What do the movies Saw VI, Extract, Gamer, A Serious Man, Whiteout, The Hole, and Law Abiding Citizen have in common? They all have new posters that Screen Rant has for your viewing pleasure, that’s what!

First up is Saw VI, yet another installment in the surprisingly highly successful torture-porn horror franchise, Saw. Maybe it’s the fact that they kicked off this kind of horror movie trend, maybe it’s the marketing, who knows, but for some reason people keep going to see these movies. They lost any intellectual stimulation for the audience a few movies ago, and it’s now all really about how to cram as much gorey traps into the runtime as possible. Saw VI looks to be no different.

Saw VI Teaser & First Clip, Saw VII On The Way

Saw VI Teaser & First Clip, Saw VII On The Way

Due to the baffling fact that the Saw movies keep making money at the box office, it’s no surprise they just keep shoving out making more and more of them. The franchise that kicked off what we now know as 21st century “torture porn” (some say it started decades ago, only in a different shape), Saw will see it’s sixth installment hit theaters this October, and now we learn that the rumors we previously reported are now confirmed: Saw VII has been greenlit and is on the way.

But first we have the first teaser trailer and first clip from Saw VI, which just came online yesterday. I think the Saw movies got past the point of an actual story a few films ago (or is that just me?) and is now, as it has been since the third one, just about how gruesome they can get with different traps.

Saw VI Update: Can You Handle 9 Saws?

Saw VI Update: Can You Handle 9 Saws?

If you’re a sick kind of demented – meaning, you like the Saw franchise – then there is some medicine on the horizon for you, if fates will have it.

Tobin Bell, the man behind the silky-smooth voice of calculated doom known as Jigsaw, was recently chatting with Bloody-Disgusting writer Jeff Otto. Bell said that if Saw VI (which opens on Oct. 23) does well enough, we’ll be seeing a 7th chapter of the bloody-good franchise as well. In fact, as long as the franchise continues to turn a profit, it might go as far as a 9th movie!
