From K.J. Apa's Archie Andrews to Shannon Purser's Ethel Muggs, the cast of Riverdale are extremely talented. But who is returning for season 7?
A subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life - the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade. Artwork is from Archie comics. Riverdale brings to the small screen reimagined characters from Archie Comics. Younger generations are introduced to modern and darker versions of Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes). The CW Network series was adapted for television by Archie Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with Greg Berlanti as the executive producer. The first season of the show premiered on January 26, 2017 and ran till May 11, 2017. The show was instant hit and on March 7, the series was renewed for a second season. Some other characters featured on the first season are Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), Kevin Keller (Casey Cott), Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch), Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick), Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro), Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt), Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope), and Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). Traditional Archie Comics characters were created by John L. Goldwater and artist Bob Montana in 1941 and first appeared in Pep Comics #22. In 1942, the characters began to have their own comic series simply titled Archie. The story is mostly centered on the friendship of Archie and Jughead and the love triangle between Betty, Archie and Veronica. The first season was told through the eyes of Jughead who served as the narrator of the show. The death of Jason led to discoveries of unlikely alliances and family relationships that were deemed too scandalous for the town of Riverdale. More secrets and mysteries are expected to unravel in the upcoming second season. While Jughead and Betty and Archie and Veronica have become pairs by the end of the run, the classic love triangle is expected to be tackled in the upcoming season. Riverdale season 2 is scheduled to premiere on October 11, 2017.
